I am still happy with my choice for the inferior screen product 😉 .

I had a chance to play with both at Best Buy and this is why you must take online reviews and impressions with a large bag of salt. The impressions are all over the place with both phones. I even read that the Pixel 6 felt cheap compared to the Pro. I held both in my hand and they both had a premium, albeit plastic feel. Neither phone felt cheap. I placed the 6 on top of the Pro and you would be shocked that there is little to separate the two wrt size. The Pro is a smidgen taller by maybe a half inch. The width is about the same.

The display on both are solid and rich in color and contrast. Honestly it’s not worth an extra $300 for the Pro. I’m not trying to pee on anyone’s fun re: the Pro but both phones are a great choice regardless, which one you decide to get.

I know there's a lot of griping on reviewers not being able to say much about the Pixel 6's until next week. But hasn't that been the norm for a while on most new smartphone launches? Didn't Apple do the same last month, the reviews couldn't go live until like a week after the big reveal?

Not saying it's right, I don't like it.

I assume it's all for marketing reasons and more clicks? And stretch out the news of the brand new product?

First week can only show and talk about the design and very minimal things. Then a week later full on reviews. Then 2 weeks later more in depth reviews. This keeps the product in social media longer.

But this is a great video, and shows us how hard these big corporations put their knees on these YouTuber's to control their product hype. Why not just show off the Pixel 6 officially on launch day, but already have the phones in the hands of these tech reviewers a week before, and let them then release their videos at will when they want, like right away, or the next day, or next week.

That's a great post and appreciate your point of view on the subject and agree with most of it.

I am tired of these controlled releases too, and sick of the multi-week trickling information on the phones. I knew I wanted one already, before specs were released or the phone was even shown. I was due for a new Android phone, and prefer a pixel experience over other forms of Android.

That said, I am also sick of YouTube celebrities and their often commonplace form of click-bait reviews with the same type of canned / cloned look and feel. I get that they have to keep the manufacturers happy (Google, Apple, etc) in order to keep getting review units, which makes it feel a bit antiseptic to me. Sure some do give reasonable negative opinions of some aspects, but I feel if they truly posted what was on their mind, they would be barred from reviews going forward. Also, If I never hear "comment, like, subscribe and click the bell" in my life again, it will still be too soon.

. I put 100% more stock in what people like yourself (and many more members on here and other similar forums) have to say and what you all experience and share on here. This includes reading everyone's comments and opinions on videos these YouTubers released. I get more value / entertainment reading posts than I do watching the videos LOL.

So on point, that is why I don't watch these paid marketing people that these reviews seem like. Even less respect for the bigger channels, they have enough money they should be buying their own stuff so they don't have to give a self censoring review

Curious to try both with on-device only functions. Been impressed with the English / German translation on the iPhones recently, especially when in on-device only mode. Looking forward to playing with both the 13 Pro and the basic Pixel 6.

Love that city, I am there 4x a year, and am looking forward to my trip in a couple of weeks. I plan on hitting some usual haunts, and want to do a camera shootout with my phones downtown with some of the bridges and skyscrapers during the nights / evenings!

Nope. I'm not in Pittsburgh. I live in Tn. Just a Penguins and Steeler fan and have been long before Nashville had any pro teams to pull for.

Odd. I've seen a lot of people on Reddit that have played with both say the difference in quality is noticeable in person. They said the Pro had a noticeably better screen, better haptics, and felt better put together.

But I have a Pro coming and a regular 6 for the wife, so I guess I'll get to compare soon enough.

Keep in mind that my impressions are no better or worse than anyone else because they are just opinions. You might notice a stark difference between the two. However, I found that I wasn't missing out on anything and I saved $300. The bottom line is that on their own they are both quality phones.

It took two tries, but I managed to get Target to issue a $99 credit due to the buds being out of stock. Bringing the grand total for the 6 128gb to $460. Not bad.

Agreed. I spent time with both and I maybe even preferred the 6 over the Pro because of the flat screen and ever so slightly smaller size. I ordered the Pro, and will probably stick with it now since I got a great deal at Target, but I do wish I would have went with the 6.

Yeah I can’t get out to the Best Buy anytime soon, so I do appreciate the YouTube videos like yours for showing off the product in real lighting.

I do think the embargoes and free product trials create an unhealthy situation akin to how Amazon reviews are now often compromised. Some reviewers are going to be better at walking that fine line. They’ll get solid information to their viewers and manage not to tick off the corporations.

Where the system works is where it allows you reviewers the opportunity to get the products in a guaranteed and timely manner. It mitigates your financial risk and burden, which I would imagine is much needed for new entrants into the field. It can put new channels on a better footing against established ones with deeper pockets.

As long as nobody is bullied into holding back critical observations, it’s fine. But I do see where it can set up a situation where a reviewer loses sight of their duty to their audience and in essence allows their channel to become an infomercial. I think this is what’s prompting Arun and MKBHD’s soul searching.

Unfortunately I’m cursed with the ability to see all the sides. I can also see how up and coming channel owners can resent those guys for that because they do have the money now to buy whatever they want when they want and therefore say what they want. At least I believe Marques can. However he risks getting shut out of early product views.

This situation is not new. But it is new that the principle players are starting to speak about it.

Checked out the Pixel 6 at Best Buy.

Took a couple side by side pics next to my S21 Ultra.
The 6 Pro and S21U are pretty much the same size. The curve on the 6 Pro is not as pronounced as the S21U. The 6 Pro has very slightly larger side bezels which makes the curve even less noticeable.



After seeing them in person I am even more excited for next week!!!

In the end I blame bean counters and lawyers for all the BS the industry, and us fans deal with!

Yeah much respect to everyone for living with restrictions on their freedom of speech.

As a “corporate spouse” I have had to keep a lid on so many interesting things over the years. Some are related to my husband’s industry contacts and happenings. Some are related to things my well connected friends know. Some are mundane things or just observations and opinions I have to keep to myself, because employers these days don’t just employ the individual, they own the family. In these days of social media, a person can easily be canceled or canned because of something their immediate family says or does.

Which I find absolutely fascinating as someone raised with the old school ideal that everything I say or do reflects back on my family and I better never shame or dishonor the family name. Only now that’s been morphed into not doing or saying anything that could embarrass your corporate family!

Anyway, it is hard sitting out on discussions you are capable of having and want to have but just…can’t.

I can imagine it must be so challenging to know so much about these Pixels and be among people absolutely thirsty for information and having to keep silent.

And it must be so frustrating to run your own channel and want to bring information as fast as possible to your audience while it’s still relevant to their purchase decisions and you can’t. But anticipation is part of the fun for me as a fan. And I am having a blast. The phones look so nice. Those displays are gorgeous. They’re truly flagship displays. I hope the rest of the phone is up to that level as well!

@GrumpyMom it is difficult indeed! I work in the IT field, and manage a few datacenter locations for a somewhat large company. I feel like NDA, Embargo, trade secrets run my life, so with that I got away from having my side-career / hobby have anything to do with NDA as much as possible. I still have some clients that like for me to work with their product shots and video, but I mostly just do motorsports and venue shots these days. Much less stress!

Great Scott those phones are HUGE!
I honestly never really looked at the dimensions of these devices that closely, nor had I seen any visual references alongside a known entity (the S21 Ultra in your case). I am really glad I didn't go with the Pro Model despite wanting 120hz and always want the best cameras.

I used a friends S21U for a day and quickly learned that device is far too large for my liking (Awesome device indeed, just large!). I am hoping the regular Pixel isn't too large for me to use daily! 😳
