Tried it a while back and found it to be rather unintuitive and complicated to use for the way I work. Just couldn't figure it out. ?

However, it's good to see that for many users ist's the right tool. ?

I don't know why anyone would buy into Adobe when Pixelmator exists.

(Provided you don't need the rest of Adobe's ecosystem, of course.)
I'm always slightly happier with my edits in Lightroom which I why I still pay for it. I'll edit the same photo in both but there's always something about the Pixelmator version that feels a bit off, makes Lightroom worth the cost for me. Pixelmator has really limited distortion correction for example, which when you shoot a lot of wide angle stuff gets really annoying.

does anybody have a good assessment of Affinity Photo Vs Pixelmator Pro.
I already have Affinity Photo but I hardly use it because it feels rather complex.

Most frequent desired use case - quickly enhancing some people photos, changing subject lighting etc. As of now, I often forgo making these edits because it I fear the time it will take.

Would that be easier on Pixelmator pro?

Any other comparative pointers or link to an article that compares the two would be great.

Thank you!

Yes, it is basically Photoshop.
Mojave / 10.14 is the oldest supported version, but there are older versions for <10.13

Are the older versions still available for download? I have a couple of older machines that have High Sierra, would love to use this.

I’d say Affinity.

Neither can compete against Photoshop for many types of work but Affinity and Pixelmator are both good for general graphics work and photo grading.

I use Photoshop at work and had Affinity Photo at home which I used infrequently. I could never figure out how to do anything without Googling it. When I recently switched to Mac, rather than buy Affinity again, I tried Pixelmator. It might not have as many features or customization options, but it has all the ones I ever use, they are more intuitive and the selection tools are very impressive.

I switched from using PS for more than 20 years to this a couple of years ago, and I'm not looking back.

Just tried the subject select and the remove background features, really great additions. Of course it won't do everything perfectly, but then you can clean up those small parts instead, and it does for sure save a lot of time.

Pixelmator Pro provides the best all-in-one solution. However, its Pro is like iPhone and iPad’s— innovative, advanced and user-friendly, but not professional enough.

I have Affinity softwares too, but I use Pixelmator Pro much more now.

Monitor resolutions are constantly increasing. However, Pixelmator continues to use tiny, microscopic icons and text in the toolbars and tool palettes. Instead of distinguishing icons by sight, I have to resort to remembering them by position. The numerical displays for coordinates, zoom level, RGB values in the main window, and slider values in tool palettes are also microscopic. The tiny text and icons make Pixelmator frustrating to use on high resolution monitors. BBEdit is just as bad, so it’s not just graphic design applications that do this. After multiple emails to BBEdit and Pixelmator, there is still no change. Why do so many of these “professional” applications like to use tiny, microscopic icons and text in toolbars and tool palettes? And why do the developers of these applications continually refuse to update their interfaces to work better with high resolution monitors?
Im not justifying their decision to not update the interface..but using keyboard shortcuts is much faster than looking for a button or searching a menu. if you already taking time to remember the location, why not just remember the shortcut?

I'm not getting the update for some reason. I've even restarted my Mac but its not showing up as an update in the App Store. I'm on version 2.2.

I think this is the crux of it. I have both and they're excellent but somehow I can get the things I want to do done a little easier with Pixelmator. Just like the expression "the best camera is the one you have with you", I think "the best photo editor for me is the one I can use most intuitively".

Affinity is also really good but the learning curve is a little steeper unless you're coming from Photoshop. If you are more of a Photoshop user then I think you will find the transition for many workflows is a little easier with Affinity.

Does anyone else here wonder what the heck happened with PS Elements? It used to be the answer for us non-pro's and now it just seems irrelevant.

Go to the App page in the App Store. After a few seconds it should show the update button.

I think its intended for use with photgraphs which typically have a foreground and background and slight depth of field differences. Even when used with photos its not perfect every time..but it has suprised me in a lot of cases. Cleaning up the results it does get isnt too bad either in my case.

I'm not doubting what you say, but could you post some examples to better show what you're describing?

Thank you for the replies on the topic of Affinity Photo Vs Prixelmator Pro.

Sounds like there is some consensus that Pixelmator Pro is more user friendly, especially for a newbie.
I will try out Pixelmator Pro for my use case and try Affinity once again.

The UI takes some getting used to but at least we're not having to suffer Adobe's hell bent desire to make their apps look like Windows.
Pixelmator is everything I need and nothing I don't want and best of all, it's affordable. I'm done with Adobe
