I’m thinking of buying Pixelmator pro, should I wait for it to go on sale or buy it at the current price? I’m afraid if I wait till it goes on sale that Apple will mess it up and dumb it down. I imagine it won’t go on sale till Black Friday. Any advice or suggestions?
Get it! I've had Pixelmator since Adobe switched to the subscription model, something like 10 years now. It was a little cumbersome moving from PhotoShop, but since Pixelmator Pro came out, I have not missed it at all. I have the Affinity suite as well. You really cannot go wrong with them either. As a side note, I always find myself opening up Pixlemator for most of the quick edits.

Have you purchased?
Was wondering about your review of the product.

Well the only problem I would see in buying it is that it's possible Apple could make it free in the future or even cheaper. However I just checked the website and before, it looked as if though the company was winding down as they were being absorbed, now it appears as if thought they are fully updating it, even adding new user guides. The front page doesn't even mention anything about being owned by Apple, they just explain how well integrated they are into macOS as they always have.

It is a fantastic app though and no matter what it will still be very useful in the future. I'd argue it is probably one of the best apps you can even get on your Mac. Besides it possibly going free, the only other thing I would worry about is maybe the app becoming universal, and therefor making the Pixelmator on iOS, pretty much free. But yeah I definitely think you should buy that app you will enjoy it throughly.

apple is on splash screen

I’ve had it since it first came out. It’s a great product, and through various updates it has constantly gotten better.

They have always made upgrades free, which also meant they need to keep getting new users to stay afloat. Apple buying it gives the developers a lot more breathing room since they now have Apple’s financial backing. I have no idea what Apple will do with it; I suspect they will position it above Photos, much like Final Cut Pro and iMovie or Logic Pro and Garage Band. With the demise of Bento, Filemaker doesn’t follow that model.

Given Apple tends to keep their Mac software either free or a purchase, I doubt Pixelmator will go subscription on the Mac but stay such on the iPad.

I love your enthusiasm and good sense of humor 😂 I’m glad you told me it’s fantastic, can’t wait to get it. I’m holding my breath too and hope Apple doesn’t do anything crazy with it. 🤞 thank you for replying.
Have you picked it up? How do you enjoy it (or hate it…)?

For someone like me who has had Pixelmator Pro for a long time (as a great one time purchase), but still haven’t sat down to learn how to use it, do you think any of the Affinity apps could be useful or complementary? Do you think Affinity photo is complementary to Pixelmator Pro? Or redundant? What about Affinity design, is it just for making graphic design from scratch, or you can actually use it with your photos?

Also, do you think Affinity design could be more useful on the iPad now that I have an Apple Pencil?

I honestly wish Apple fully integrates Pixelmator on macOS 16 with the new system overhaul. And, why not, given that Apple is unifying all their iOS, iPadOS and macOS interfaces, it would be super cool to have it fully integrated in the Photos app, (or maybe as a parallel app), across all their operating systems.

Probably not. Affinity is a workflow multiplier. If you find yourself struggling with repetitive tasks in Pixelmator Pro, then look into Affinity for a solution that would better fit your needs. You having said that you still have not learned to use it yet, probably are not in the category of optimizing workflows. Pixelmator will do just about anything you need.

I honestly do not know, I do not use my iPad to draw.
