General @Planetbeing has a 6.0.2 (6.1) JB

How and why do you need to save blobs? Des this not happen during a routine backup?

Thanks by the way.

Long story short, in the event you need to restore your phone, it lets you restore to the same version. These blogs have nothing to do with an iTunes backup.

For the rest, read the link.

EDIT: You beat me Applejuiced

Wow. This thread has been quite busy today. @DWalls90 @TriJetHero @AppleJuieced great job answering all these peoples questions. Oh and can't forget @dhlizard

Save your BLObs using TinyUmbrella or by updating your phone to 6.1 and using Redsn0w to retrieve them from your phone.

Why do we need to? Because Apple is likely to release a new, unjailbreakable version of iOS shortly after the jailbreak is released. They will then stop signing 6.1 and it will become impossible to re-install the to the 6.1 firmware if something goes wrong with your phone unless you have previously saved your SHSH BLObs

SHSH BLObs are not stored in a routine backup, nor are they part of the firmware file stored locally on your computer. They are part of the signed firmware file that is uploaded to the phone during the restore process, and are added at the time of restore. In order to install a version of iOS other than the most current one, one must have previously saved SHSH Blobs which iTunes can be tricked into using to sign the firmware. These BLObs are unique to specific phone and version of the firmware they are generated for, and cannot be used on other phones or to restore other versions.

NOTE: Since iOS5, cached SHSH BLOBs have not been sufficient by themselves to allow a restore. A tool was developed and included in RedSn0w which allows iOS 5.x installs to be restored using cached SHSH BLObs. This tool will probably not work with iOS 6.1, so we will have to wait for a new tool to allow restores to 6.1. It will remain true, however, that having your SHSH BLObs stored will be essential to the process.

Is it necessary to do the restore and update to 6.1? I'm on 6.0.1 on my iPhone 4, could I just back up to iTunes and then do the jb when it's released? I read that it supports 6.0.1 too, and 6.1 really didn't bring much new..

I updated to 6.1. Can imagine the rush in Sunday to update and jailbreak. Apple servers are gonna take a huge hit and Cydia will be slow as hell.

I was downloading the 6.1 FW files and they took forever. They seemed to have frozen. I let them run over night but haven't had a chance to look this morning. :(

Perhaps a dumb question, but my only jailbreak was on my 4S on 5.1.1, and I did that months after the jailbreak was released, so I am not familiar with how these usually are on release: Am I correct that the jailbreak tool should be released for both Mac and Windows at the same time?

If I remember correctly, the last one was for Mac first, then windows either a few hours or days later.

Redsn0w is always the same time.

Absinthe was Mac first then PC but were talking a matter of 24 hours, at most.

You could always go into your local apple store to use their demo macs ;)

Right, Absinthe for windows was an agonizing 24 hours after the Mac release :)

Do we think this is going to be a Redsn0w or Absinthe jailbreak?

What software has the best history in terms of "clean install" ?

They're all amazingly reliable, but for first time jailbreakers, Absinthe and jailbreakme.com (which we will probably never see again) were the most simple as they didn't require the user to go into DFU mode. The software took care of everything. Redsn0w requires someone with more brain function than a rock to use.

True, that 24 hours probably felt like 24 days.

All exploits/jailbreaks eventually find their way into a version of Redsn0w, but I would guess that we will see a unique, simple tool/interface released by these four members of the evad3rs first.

But it's still very easy, right?

Yes.

Jailbreak.me was hilarious; slide to jailbreak!

Current redsn0w lets you choose which method to use for A5 devices; the ram-disk method(DFU) or the absinthe method ( backup function of itunes).

Jailbreak might come earlier :D

Sweet. i was away last week, and come back to find this awesome news!

Thankfully, the hackers saw there is still interest in JBing. I hope for more great things in the future.

The best of all is that a certain pirating add on is now gone which will show you who's really interested in a JB.

I just want my darn mywi/my3g and lockinfo among a few other minor tweaks :) CANT WAIT!
