I'm just saying that the savings from the plastic has nothing to do with the $199 pricetag.
If anything, since the iPhone 3G costs less money to make, they should resell it to AT&T for *LESS* than $399 so AT&T could resell it to us for less than $199. If AT&T's decided that they'll resell the iPhone to us for $200 less than what they buy it from Apple, if Apple lowered AT&T's cost to $375, we could get it from AT&T for $175.
Instead, Apple is selling the iPhone 3G to AT&T for the same amount of money they were charging us for the original iPhone.
Unless I'm missing something, Apple is the only one that benefits (cost wise) from the plastic back.
I disagree. I have been in numerous places where I get zero bars on my iPhone and my wife has 2-3 bars on her RAZR. It does seem to be more indoors than anywhere else.
Agreed - it is noticable (and physics wise, inevitable).
No Kool-aid here, because even accepting the need to alter the design I still think the new back looks hideous, but they are right about the reception.
