I know.

There was no mention of a "boost mode" when the PS4 Pro was first announced. Devs had to come out with a patch to take advantage of it
Yeah. I don't believe it was a planned thing at first. And then I guess someone changed their mind to just give everything a little bit of a boost if the developers don't get around to it.

Maybe they were holding back out of fear of compatibility issues arising if the specs were different. Which doesn't make sense given how PCs scale, but probably just growing pains for consoles.

That's because boost mode is more of an add-on feature, then it actually was an included feature with the PS4 Pro. It's one of those situations that they likely tested for a while to make sure it's something that would actually work for various games through developers and would it ultimately be ready by a certain patch/update.

The lack of UHD drive still infuriates me to no end. I resent having to add a stand alone player to our living room set up for the first time in over ten years.

I seriously considered switching to Xbox but my large digital library has me chained down.

As for boost mode I've yet to use it on many games but I have noticed that it causes some problems with older titles. Revelations 2 hangs up at the loading screen for example

I have Tested boost mode and all I can offer at this point is that it does seem to liven up the game in some respects. To me, in order to really notice it, you have to play the game before hand and after the fact to see the differences. But it is a nice advantage for older titles.

Buy also an Xbox One? Best of two worlds + UHD drive.

PS5... ;)

There are rumors that the PS4 PRO can read the UHD BR discs with a firmware upgrade...

Finally sold my PS4Pro.

I barely have any time for gaming anymore and with the XB1S and the Switch, it was the one to get the boot only because of the awkward mid cycle update that it truly is. I have always leaned more to XB and with Scorpio coming I will grab that and leave PSN for a while as I am enjoying the Switch with my kids a lot more lately for the actual time I do get to game.

I will see what comes next in the PS5 or whatever they release.

I did similar but it was the XB1S I sold instead.

I did it out of buyer's remorse if you will. I jumped on it on release and probably should have waited as I thought it may be the next big thing for me to maximize use on my 4K set but it really wasn't. Sure it was nice, upgraded a tad but not worth the price of admission and not worth an upgrade from my PS4 at that price.

Got $340 for it so i am pretty satisfied and will wait to see what the PS5 has to offer and will be PSN-less for a while.

I should've gotten one since I ended up loving PSVR.

Was thinking about upgrading anyways but now GS and local places are hardly giving anything for a used PS4 (around $130) and used PRO'S go for $380... hardly worth it - bought a Switch instead (love that also).

Now the buzz about PS5 and PSVR2 is starting...

You made a nice dividend off your Pro, almost full retail. I am interested in the Scorpio this November (As I already own the Pro) and look forward to seeing its capabilities at the Electronics Expo in two weeks. The PS4 Pro is a great device (Especially with 4k/HDR) and has power. But I think the Scorpio is going to bring some interesting features and if it's priced affordably, Microsoft is going to have a busy 2017 Holiday season.

I just sold my XB1S 2TB with two sealed games (GoW4 and Recore) for $300. Took a pretty big bath on it but it was just collecting dust for like 8 months, but party sold it to get ready for Scorpio.

I don't doubt that the Scorpio will be much more capable than the PS4 Pro as far as pushing 4K, but again going by PC specs I have my doubts, given that a GTX1070 pushing 6.5TFLOPS is not even really 4K capable if I want to maintain 60fps in my i7-7700K box. The Scorpio is supposed to be able to push 6TF with the massive GPU increase, but the CPU clock is only bumped by 30%. Apples and oranges comparison, but it's kind of like pairing a GTX1080Ti to a dual core Pentium..

I remember reading somewhere Microsoft stated that the Scorpio's won't be priced at a level not seen before, so I'm guessing at least $599 (PS3 launch price), or even $699 (3DO price )
