For people who have had both, how would you compare it to Sling?
Vue is WAY better! Hell, the DVR feature is enough to choose Vue over Sling. The only downside to Vue is, if you aren't on your home wifi network, you can't stream Vue...with Sling, you can stream from anywhere. That may be a huge deal for most people, though.

ok... were you honestly expecting one? It's a US television service. You also won't be getting a Comcast, Charter or DirecTV app... just to knock off some more expectations you may have.

I haven't actually read anything about Vue until today and realise how greta it sounds. So yeah didn't know it was a US only thing.

Still annoying ATV are so poor in UK compared to the US.

Will this work even if I don't own a Playstation? Can I just sign up for the service? I've been using Sling, but it's pretty awful on Apple Tv.

Yes, I've been using it on both an Amazon Fire TV stick as well as a Roku streaming stick. Will now get rid of both and use the Apple TV for all my streaming needs.

There are 3 main advantages Vue has over Sling:
  1. Cloud-based DVR. No limit on the amount of shows you can record at once, but programs will disappear after 28 days.
  2. In most markets, all 4 major networks are available, at least On Demand. You can tag your favorite network shows, and they appear in your shows to be watched the day after they air (CBS doesn't support On Demand, just DVR if you have your local CBS. The only thing you miss is local programming and syndicated fare on those channels.
  3. TV Anywhere for most channels. Nearly all channels that you have access to in your subscription are able to be accessed through the TV Anywhere.
The only thing to be aware of is that, as mentioned, Vue dropped all Viacom channels last week. They may or may not be back, and we may or may not get additional programming to help compensate for the loss. No problem for me personally, we rarely watched the Viacom channels.

I am current a Sling Orange subscriber and T-mobile offers discount. The Apple TV app release along with a new PS4 Pro owner, I'm thinking about switching. Will a native macOS app coming soon? :D

Going to take a serious look at this. Having cloud DVR will also be awesome. I think it will come down to price.

The price is still spot on I think. Pricing cable now is ridiculous and hard to get under $35/month and still have crap channels and no dvr.

I literally just bought a Mi Box YESTERDAY so I could use this. Well, back to Walmart it goes.

The one thing I dislike about these so-called cord-cutting services (Vue, Sling) is that they don't let you flip through channels easily like regular cable does.

The Pluto TV app does do that well, I must say. Too bad it doesn't have too many good channels.

Wait, you can't stream out of home on VUE? No cell streaming? How does VUE know if you are on your home wifi and not a friends wifi?

Is it just me or is the interface awful? I just signed up for the trial and it's miserable trying to navigate. Maybe I am getting old.

Is there an option to subscribe via iTunes?

Looks like you have to sign up on Playstations website then activate the device.

Unfortunately, not. You still should be fine with apps like ESPN3, etc., because they require you to sign in with your Vue account. But, as far as streaming stuff like ESPN/ESPN2, from a different location other than home, you can't.

If I am not mistaken, they know you are not on your home wifi based off your IP address.

No Comedy Central :(

Apparently, up until last week Comedy Central was included, but they just dropped it.

It was dropped because Viacom are greedy *******s. Same type of crap cable and satellite companies go through every couple of years. Hopefully it will be back eventually.

I was curious too, so I poked around a bit. Sounds like the answer is yes. This AppleTV-specific page looks like one can activate the service with only the Apple TV.

$30/mo for the low-end package could be quite attractive, especially if it could supplant Hulu, for cord cutters.

You don't need a Playstation at-all. You do need to set up a PSN account for it. I've been using it on FireTV for about six months now. It is amazing, and blows away Sling. Hopefully Sony will eventually drop the "Playstation" part off the name as it is confusing for people. I have heard it referred to lately by them and others as just "Vue".

Where the hell is the Amazon Prime Video app?
I want it too, but Amazon is the one to complain to about this. tvOS isn't that radically different from iOS and they already have an iOS app. It's pretty clear that Amazon is doing this on purpose to try to give their Fire TV a leg up against the Apple TV (along with outlawing sales of Apple TV on amazon.com - even from 3rd party sellers - "to avoid confusion" - uh huh, sure).

Cool! When they say "DVR", does that mean only things that you have said in advance that you want to "record", or does it give streaming access to prior episodes (and even seasons), like Hulu does?

You can easily stream nearly all of Vue's programming out of home. Only NBC channels for some reason prohibit streaming outside of the home. One caveat, however, is that the device you are using has to connect to the Vue service through the home network first, then you can stream on the go.

If prior episodes are available On Demand, they will show up when you "Favorite" the show. And you can also log in to the channel's TV Anywhere app and watch what is available there as well.

Signed up and installed on Apple Tv during lunch today....impressed so far! I cancelled Sling and probably will cancel Hulu too.

How can you tell if your local channels are available in your market? Do the free trial?

I may wait till Directvnow comes out. I was going to pull the trigger. But I noticed that Vue gives you 70 channels for $35. While Directv is promising 100 channels for the same price. So what is the channel difference?

Also, when I had Vue before. I had to be on my home wifi to use the app on my phone and iPad. They wouldn't let you use it away from your home location. So has that changed? Cause if it hasn't, that may also push me to go with directvnow instead once it is released.

On the Playstation Vue website, enter your ZIP Code (click on the pin icon in the upper right corner). The first channels that show up in the listing will either be the On Demand icons for the networks, or the station logos for your own locals.

The only downside for some, is that CBS is only available for those areas where CBS local channels are available, no on demand.

Having these included, I was able to drop Hulu, Sling, and CBS, and save even more money than when I initially cut the cord early this year. It's been great to get the programming I want, for about the lowest price I can find.

That only applies to the Vue app though, you can still use the Vue login to watch stuff on the individual channel apps anywhere.

The Viacom channels will be back. Viacom has been attempting to increase the fees paid to them for their low value and low watched channels. Viacom tried the same thing with Dish earlier in the year and lost because Viacom channels aren't worth as much as Viacom thinks they are. This is why some cable operators have dropped all the Viacom channels.

I wouldn't be so sure... Dish has a MASSIVE amount of subscribers compared to Vue, so they had a lot more leverage. Also, most of those subscribers were in contract and upset. With Vue, people can just switch to another streaming service if they want Viacom networks. If Viacom gets added back, it's more likely because Vue made concessions than the other way around.

Whichever affiliates own CBS & ABC in the Washington D.C. area are jagoffs.

Those two channels are damn near impossible to get OTA in my area (Fairfax) and they are never included in these subscription services
