Here's to hoping they change their Top Shelf on the Apple TV home screen...doesn't do me much good to see how I can sign up, when I already have signed up...
With this and (hopefully) DirecTV Now coming to the ATV, it will make cord-cutting a more-likely possibility.
It's normal for now. They announced earlier this week that they're working on more local TV contracts. I have CBS in my area, but ABC, NBC and FOX are on-demand like you say.Eh. I can't get ABC, NBC, or FOX live, just on demand. Most of that can be done through Hulu.
Is that normal or just in my market? The icons show On Demand stations but hoped it would be like the app and let me watch it live, which my market doesn't allow.
Correct. I clarified that in another post in this thread. That only applies to the Vue app though, you can still use the Vue login to watch stuff on the individual channel apps anywhere.
Can I sign up for Vue and use my account at my moms house so we can both stream simultaneously?
Yeah that could be a deal breaker. That means you can't steam on the go. Even if you don't stream on the go on your phone, having the option to when you need it is nice. Also, I do share it with someone at another house currently.Vue is WAY better! Hell, the DVR feature is enough to choose Vue over Sling. The only downside to Vue is, if you aren't on your home wifi network, you can't stream Vue...with Sling, you can stream from anywhere. That may be a huge deal for most people, though.
I suggest you consider a class action lawsuit against your cable/ISP provider.

I'm watching Vue on my iphone over cellular data now, with no issues. There's just a hoop you have to jump through to watch mobile - log in to the app first on your home network, and then you will be fine.Correct. I clarified that in another post in this thread.
On what grounds? They offer a service at a price and I can go with them or one of their competitors. There is no reason they can't offer better deals if I buy a bundle.
For people who have had both, how would you compare it to Sling?
Will this work even if I don't own a Playstation? Can I just sign up for the service? I've been using Sling, but it's pretty awful on Apple Tv.
Yes, I've been using it on both an Amazon Fire TV stick as well as a Roku streaming stick. Will now get rid of both and use the Apple TV for all my streaming needs.
There are 3 main advantages Vue has over Sling:
The only thing to be aware of is that, as mentioned, Vue dropped all Viacom channels last week. They may or may not be back, and we may or may not get additional programming to help compensate for the loss. No problem for me personally, we rarely watched the Viacom channels.
- Cloud-based DVR. No limit on the amount of shows you can record at once, but programs will disappear after 28 days.
- In most markets, all 4 major networks are available, at least On Demand. You can tag your favorite network shows, and they appear in your shows to be watched the day after they air (CBS doesn't support On Demand, just DVR if you have your local CBS. The only thing you miss is local programming and syndicated fare on those channels.
- TV Anywhere for most channels. Nearly all channels that you have access to in your subscription are able to be accessed through the TV Anywhere.
Hmm. I might give it a shot.Just started the Vue trial. I've had Sling for about a year. Maybe it's because I'm used to Sling, but I feel like the Vue interface and navigation on Apple TV seems a little "wonky". Maybe I'll get used to it in the remaining days of the trial but I'm used to Sling and it's $15/month cheaper for the package I have. I watch mainly sports, not much regular TV for what it's worth.
Unfortunately, not. You still should be fine with apps like ESPN3, etc., because they require you to sign in with your Vue account. But, as far as streaming stuff like ESPN/ESPN2, from a different location other than home, you can't.
If I am not mistaken, they know you are not on your home wifi based off your IP address.
Have you logged a request with the missing providers?Still cant believe we dont have any proper catch up services except iPlayer... and now ITV wont even let us Airplay!
I literally only use 3 apps on my ATV.... TV Player, Plex and Music... now cancelled Netflix and NowTV as they were never getting used.
Have you logged a request with the missing providers?
I started last week by contacting ITV.
The UX does not need fixing. Maybe you didn't read the instructions that came up when first launching the App.The good, streams pick up a lot faster...
The user interface is not nearly as well done as with fireTV or PS3/4, this could be the lack of buttons. No way to quickly get guide up, brings you to home page requiring a lot of additional clicks to get to guide or no way to get to last channel like you can by holding return key on fireTV remote...
Prefer Apple TV but I will probably continue to use fireTV until they fix the UX on ATV.
You're probably in a large market - I'm in the sticksNot sure why so many people aren't getting the local live channels. I'm getting CBS, NBC, FOX, and ABC live...?
Not that I would want to watch anything on those pathetic archaic networks.

I want it too, but Amazon is the one to complain to about this. tvOS isn't that radically different from iOS and they already have an iOS app. It's pretty clear that Amazon is doing this on purpose to try to give their Fire TV a leg up against the Apple TV (along with outlawing sales of Apple TV on amazon.com - even from 3rd party sellers - "to avoid confusion" - uh huh, sure).

Cool! When they say "DVR", does that mean only things that you have said in advance that you want to "record", or does it give streaming access to prior episodes (and even seasons), like Hulu does?
