look at my friends site
http://www.thecreativeone.tv
and lets not start talking about engadget and gizmodo.

Got it. Youre trying to make a better site than your friend...well..that site is alot cleaner but still guilty of the ol' lets put ads and "sponsors" all over the place.

Whether you make money on them or not isnt the point...its that you dont seem to have any need for them, they are distracting and useless for your site.

If you site isnt some personal blog, which it seems not to be, you are providing a service for people...but is your service worth paying for? I dont see how.

Your right about the "service" thing but im not sure im really giving service to people?

My inspiration was Engadget.. altough i did not make it exactly like their site but wanted to make it more unique (fail?)\

I took your advice and lightened the background with the text, i think its nice but ill improve it, it does need some more work.
Thanks

You change the large background image color by opening the image and editing it in an image editing software.. or did you just steal that background off of the internet???

you NEED to loose the black background.. your friend's website is definitely a load better than yours to look at.

I can deal with ads on some websites.. its almost expected on most blog type websites.. but your ads are NOT well placed.. and what makes it worse is that your actual website navigation is getting lost in yours ads, and that will screw your used big time

If your site is not to make money.. and you want to offer something like engadget, you NEED to tone everything down and focus on your content.

Also, with a website like that, you should just get a blog platform like wordpress. Its a LOAD more flexible and would be easier for your to add content to daily or weekly.

and yes.. the "godady domain verification" is crap/ No one cares if your domain is verified by godaddy.. take it away. Take ANYTHING away that serves no purpose to your viewers..

its really hurting me to look at anymore..

Dude, from all the comments in here and all your replies its obvious you are just some dude out to have an "AWESOME WEBSITE TO MAKE EVERYONE JEALOUS" or something.

Youve ignored many of the best points brought to you and instead want to defend everything youve done. Thats not how a critique works here so dont be surprised if no one cares anymore why your site is an eyesore.

well.. when someone asks me HOW to change the color on a graphic, you generally question where the graphic came from

Clearly you were expecting a huge "OMG YOUR SITE IS AWESOME" and a few "maybe fix this or that, but AWESOME WORK"

Well.. sorry.
Oh.. and just because you have a picture opened in photoshop with a bunch of obscure layers doesn't mean that you made that picture..

Understood.

So how can i prove to you this very simple background was made by me? Why should i lie?
Every single thing except the Youtube, Twitter and mail icons are made by me..
And i was not expecting people to say how great and awesome my website is.. Why think that without actually knowing? when i made this site a day before i didnt even think about making my own site this all happened in minutes thanks to iWeb and a free trial from Mobileme ^_^, and like i said its a very simple you might call it unprofessional looking site and that fine for now.. :) i did take a lot of things members said here to consideration and have improved little things.

Anyway, forgot to say interesting niche concept.

I know those ads are commission on purchase only. There are 3 different type of ads.

The ad placement / ratio to content needs improvement.
engadget and most sites have a higher content to ad ratio.

For example
http://www.geekologie.com/
has quite a number of ads, but doesn't look overwhelmed by ads.

And my site
http://obamapacman.com/
yesterday someone said, why don't you have any ads on the site. LOL.

I think you want to make a site look like a blogging site. In that case you might want to look at wordpress or similar systems, where a lot of things are automated.
