Did they mention the cost of replacement even if you have AppleCare? Just wondering. I did buy it myself.
Do you mean how much you still would have to pay as a deductible so to speak?
If so, he said it would be $49.

I am glad you left this here. I had gotten it for the iPad pro i got for a friend. I convinced them they needed it. i did not know the true cost of a screen replacement I definitely made the right call.
That's what got me! I have never bought AC before except for my iMac and I've purchased plenty from Apple but I was shocked at the $599 cost so it was a no brainer for me anyway.
I'm glad I asked!

Your home owners insurance pays for any mishaps.

Home owners insurance is not for stuff like this. A lot of people think it is but it's not. Not unless you have a separate rider. Home owners insurance is for your HOME and the lot/stuff it sits on. Fire, electrical, natural, damages to it and such. It's not for dropping your iPad.

Gravity + cats + distraction + demonic possession = everything is at risk for me.

Lol. I have cats to so I can relate. My iPhone 6S Plus has AppleCare + because it was a new size to me and I always go naked. I wanted to be covered. My rMBP will have Apple Care closer to the end of it's first year of warranty. My IPP will have AppleCare + Monday when I get it in. I don't plan on putting it in a case other than maybe a smart cover and a sleeve. I don't cover any of my devices. Too beautiful.

Even if it is covered, I don't really want to make an insurance claim over my iPad. Rather pay the replacement fee and move on.

One other thing you get with Apple Care is Tech Support. You can call Apple Care and they can help you solve your problems even faster then going to this forum. :p I've used it many times, and they are always very supportive and thorough.

I see both sides of the argument but can attest to its benefits; especially with regards to in-home service. Try lugging a 27" down two flights of stairs, into a car, and out on the other end to an Apple Store. I had a display issue with my late-2012 iMac and a tech was dispatched post-haste who replaced the LCD panel on my kitchen table. For me, it's cheap insurance.

i've gotten applecare/+ for all my devices for many years. However, this is one iPad pro i will not buy applecare+ for. It's just so big there's no way for me to drop it. I've had applecare+ for all my iPad devices and the only ones I've ended up dropping was the iPad 3, iPad 4 and iPhone. Other than that it was wasted money.
Just because it is bigger and you think you are less likely to have a problem is not a good idea. I buy AppleCare for everything I have bought from Apple. Just a few years ago, something exploded inside my PowerBook Pro, I took it to an Apple Store. Because I had AppleCare, they replaced it. Had I not had it, it would have been almost $1,000. That confirmed to me that it is the smart decision to always get AppleCare+. I got it for my iPad Pro, because you never know what might happen.

I haven't picked up AppleCare+ yet, but I do for my Watch and 6 Plus, since they get a lot of hard use. I was torn on AppleCare+ for iPad... but that $599 I think has me sold.

I skipped AppleCare+ for my 2 yr old iPad Air and it goes everywhere with me, but the Pro is a bit bigger and more unwieldy... I'll probably be buying it this week. Nice to know you can do it over the phone.
The watch is not easy to drop since it's mostly on your arm, and with the Apple leather case on it's also not that easy to drop the iPhone 6s... but I actually dropped my iPad Air 2 several times because I played it on bed and then fell asleep... So I can see the purpose of AppleCare+, and rest assured the screen will break if you drop the iPad Pro, since it's heavy.

Anyway, I don't like all extended warranty so I still haven't bought one, and I have been quite careful with my electronics. Not so for my dad, he broke several hand-me-down iPads and iPhones already.

p.s. I don't think I will play the iPad Pro on bed.

Apple Care + on a screen THIS size definitely.

Not paying $599 if this screen shatters when I can pretty much pay $150 and have it dealt with. Plus it's a Gen 1 device and while Apple historically doesn't have much issues with gen 1 devices it just makes sense

That really doesn't make any sense nor do you have any foreseeable vision as to what might happen.

Using my American Express card gives me 100% coverage for an additional 12 months and they do NOT charge an extra $49.00 service fee each incidence either. Plus they were REALLY nice the only 2 times I ever utilized the protection and both times were gaming consoles that they simply issued a 100% refund to me so I could buy again IF I chose or as the woman on the phone said, "or maybe a BETTER product this time";-) NO hassle and I was honestly amazed at how nice they were.

I don't know if all AmEX cards are the same but on mine yes, it does extend the "warranty" for 12 months but it only covers "Damage" for 90 days.
