iPad Pro Please put me off buying a 10.5" iPad Pro ?

I originally wanted the 10.5 too as it’s lighter even with the Apple Smart Keyboard, however it’s not meant for multitasking. Personally, I don’t even think the 10.5 should have split view as a feature because it turns the ui into an upscale iPhone. You’re gonna ask yourself "what’s the point?" The slide over is a great alternative for its size, though. I went with the 12.9 and it takes fully advantage of its features, the only downfall is that if you start adding a keyboard case it will automatically feel very heavy like a MacBook.

Wait for June and let’s pray Apple announces a 11.7 or 12.0 iPad Pro, cause I’d love to loose an inch oFf my iPad.

Just picked one up before the holidays (discounted $100) and currently testing both the pencil and Smart Keyboard. I’ll probably wind up keeping both because they really enhance the iPad experience.

I decided on this because I realized whenever the new model (iPhone X type screen) comes out, its going to probably start around $899 and go up to $1399. I’m not interested in spending that much on the iPad (+ accessories) when I already have a MacBook Pro.

If you’re comfortable with the spend now, I think it’s best to pull the trigger rather than wait for a much more expensive model.

The iPad Pro 10.5" is everything I was waiting for : smaller bezels, a screen that actually feels like it belongs in its time, lightning fast performance, a size that's just right.

I've mostly been postponing it juuuuust a little more every month, because, well, that's one way to save money. But now, with my decision to change my iPhone 6 battery for cheaps and waiting on the 2018 iPhone X plus (only 9 months to go), I feel like I need at least one iOS device that's not laggy and dated.

Is there something that SHOULD put me off buying it ?

EDIT : my expectations are : multitasking for weight loss monitoring and spreadsheets for meal prep, reading and typing a lot on reddit, twitter and messaging, watching netflix in a way that the sound is never muffled, never wasting time on things loading. Being able to multitask with side-by side apps.

I have an iPad Mini 2 now. I'm looking for a definitive future proof gadget that will last me at least 4 years of updates.

I love my iPad Pro 12.9 (2017). It’s fast and the keyboard is huge. However, unless I’m crazy, I think last year they announced their iPads In the summer. So if you absolutely have to have the best you might want to wait.

I bought the 2017 iPad, got rid of it and went for a 9.7" Pro then got rid of that and bought a 10.5" Pro all in the space of a few weeks.

I’ll let someone elae confirm but I believe if you go 75/25 then one is full view one is iPhone view.

Thing is I used my current 12” think pad for a day to build a baseline. I rarely have multiple apps open at the same time. I prefer to use one and then do a quick command tab change to the next. When I’m editing is only when I really need two full docs on the screen and for that even 15” is barely usable. I use a 24” external screen for that.

The split view is more than good enough for casual. If you want split view for writing dissertation or working on the iPad for 6-8 hours then buy the 12 inch or a laptop. Personally I find the multitasking on the iPad 10.5 a huge upgrade from my iPad 3. If feels more like a professional device and the powerful speakers means I no longer need to use a dock for music playback.

Price is the only negative thing about the Pro. It's not cheap but is utterly fantastic and is keeping me going while I wait for the iPhone X Plus or Galaxy S9 Plus.

Yes, the split view can be adjusted so you can have 75% of the screen on safari and 25% on notes, or vice versa. The multitasking is awesome, especially when watching live TV/Netflix/Hulu and being able to open up safari while there are commercials!

Also, the pro 10.5 isn’t cheap. That’s why I’d say buy it now because the next iPad is going to be easily $150-200 more expensive just for the base model.

I don't think so. The iPad Pro is already more expensive than many laptops on the market. Only OLED might bump up the price but I don't think it will get that display this year.

I’ve had mine for about 3 months now. I love the size of it 10.5 is much bigger than my mini 3 (which suddenly can’t get past the activation stage after factory reset) the screen resolution is superb & omg the speakers kick out prestige sounds. No speaker pill needed. I love the UI. Found a decent defender case since the otterboxes are outrageously overpriced. My only pet peeve is I can not find a rugged defender case with keyboard folio. I have not yet setup my 4g service. The 12” is too big & is literally 1” smaller than my MBP. It has great apps & the pencil ️ was a deal breaker. 128gb model with Apple care priced it at 1,100+ which is close to the price of the iPhone X. IMHO, I’ve been reading a series of articles about the X having Face ID issues. To each is own. I bought the 8+ synced it with my iwatch for health info & it’s still a worthy contender.

10.5 ipp is definitely the best iPad I’ve owned. I find it very similar to the air 2 but so much faster. The display alone is worth the upgrade. Speakers are obviously better but I don’t use them enough to care.

The downside of 10.5”:

Just over the size limit to receive free Microsoft Office.
But still not large enough for comfortable double iPad view.
Slim bezels will not mean much when bezelless iPads arrive a few months later.

I love my 10.5, made me jump to iOS only for all of my computing needs (work and personal). I don't see any reason to wait unless you want a no home button set up that's rumored to be coming in 2018. If you prefer the home button, the 10.5 now is an awesome device.

But I think that so many reviews fail to address the issue of the reduced UI mode (compared to the 12.9 Pro) is a disservice to people considering which model to buy. That difference may not matter to them, but IMO, it is important that they be made aware that a difference exists and make an informed decision.

I currently own a 12.9 Pro and was a bit disappointed that Apple went with 10.5 rather than somewhere around 11+" . 10.5 is too close to 9.7 to make a significant difference... and since it is over the 10" threshold for free MS Office, nothing else would be lost by moving up a bit. Maybe Apple will work to eliminate the physical home button and be able to have a larger screen in the same 10.5 form-factor.

It's a shame that full UI split view isn't possible on the 10.5. At least for web browsing one can use Chrome and force desktop view.

This high lights one of the biggest pain points with the iPad. It has laptop capabilities but at the end of the day, Apple is 100% in charge of when the iPad works like a Mac and when it works like an oversized iPhone.

Good point. I can definitely see iPads gaining screen real estate while retaining or even shrinking their current footprint. However the spokes in the wheel are speakers and battery.
