Watch out for hijacked eBay accounts also

Lately on eBay I have seen some deals that are too good to be true, for example:

Bundle:

15" TiBook, 1Ghz, 1GB SDRAM
23" Apple Cinema Display
Both brand new in box, never used...

Buy it now price of $2850...

The seller account had really good feedback, but when you start looking at all of the individual auctions that the account had processed, they were all for little arts and crafts items that were only a few dollars each.

Apparently people are hijacking accounts that belong to little old ladies selling trinkets on eBay and posting fraudulent auctions for high dollar items like laptops, etc.

They probably have the purchaser Paypal them the money (possibly even to a hijacked Paypal account), then transfer it to their own Paypal account and withdraw the cash.

This auction was just up last night, but after I checked tonight it has been removed (last night it showed 3 days left).

Be careful out there folks! The moral of the story is: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

That's what happened to me, and PayPal refused to do anything about it. They told me that I must attempt to resolve the fraud issue with the seller before they would even look at my case. After I tried that, PayPal claimed that I was outside of the time limit and they wouldn't take any action. I finally got the fraudster's eBay account shut down, but I lost the money that I had sent through PayPal.
 
ok this guy, instant messaged me again saying he was a poor 11 year old kid who needed the money to buy clothes. he also said he wanted to sell his gl1 now instead of his gl2...this was about two weeks ago and i just blew him off cause he is just way to fishy.

now get this, some kid instant messaged me with another screen name asking me if i wanted to buy a gl1 for cheap, like $700-900. the funky part is that he said he skates, which i do to...so there was a little trust in him. so we start talking and he doesnt know much about skating causae i kind of put him to the test. but, he seemed more real this time(of it's the same guy). then i go on and ask him where he lives and guess what!?!?!?! WOODHAVEN, NEW YORK!...same place as the other guy(or same guy). then he goes on saying that i am sounding fishy..which i can sorta understand since i toled him to f---- off at first. but anyways he wouldnt sell it to me after he tole me where he lives.

if it is the same guy, i just dont understand how he found out that i skate.

oh well.....wonder if this will go any further...hehe

well, he probably took a gamble on that one. A con artist might try to make some sort of personal connection. They usually present random questions ("do you skate?" "what sports do you do?", stuff like that) to get that crucial bit of familiarity and trust. Im not expert, but that seems like a pattern that con artists follow.

By the way, this guy is stupid. The least he could do is switch up his merchendise especially if he isnt actually planning on giving it to you...

Just my thoughts.
 
when i say skate i mean aggressive in-line skating and hardly anyone knows what that is...some how he must have gotten some info on me.

As for the skating, man save the gonads. There is something fundamentally wrong with any sport that places the genitalia inline with mettle railings and walls. Cool, I used to blade, but not as skillfully as you.

MSN, which I figure used both the Teoma and Google search engines. Teoma has hits to your wano540 name. You might want to try some meta-search engines just to see what's out there. There is little you can do, less pull your post. I wouldn't worry about it.

There are a lot of neat things you can do on the net. Heck, I found a satellite image of the guys neighborhood. Digital fingerprints have a long latency, but are hard to trace to the source.

I would set up a website with some pictures on it and send this guy to the website. Just tell him to check out your stuff and maybe you and him can trade some stuff + some money on top. Embed a php script so you can get his IP adress etc. Just a thought.
