Having been here a long time, it's expected that more threads will be started as we approach a new iPhone release. I can deal with that. What bothers me is the sheer magnitude of stupidity that gets posted. [/rant]

Carry on.

Humans have an internal cognitive thinking system that requires them to know information.

It is perfectly fine to speculate about an unreleased device.

yea, i'm with this, but what's frustrating is the amount of multiple threads asking the same or similar things, would be good if the mods could merge them, make it less of a mess....

This is a forum. People come here to get advice, ask questions, help, etc. Some people aren't losers like us and don't lurk the forums 24/7 so they don't always know what's commonly talked about or discussed. People that make threads like these are just as annoying as those post about the same thing over and over.

There's a nifty little search feature so they don't have to lurk 24/7.

Hell, for most of the new threads this past month, all they had to do was look at either the main screen or simply glance over the iPhone page and they'd see multiple threads answering/ saying the same exact thing their new thread does.

Many forums aren't as moderated as this one. Double posting, etc., is allowed. And since these people don't lurk often, they might not know about cool features such as MRoogle.

I agree with the others who suggest simply do not read the threads that annoy you. Alternatively, you could simply not visit MR until the iPhone5 comes out because it will get worse, much worse. I pity anyone who visits this forum looking for assistance.

The number of duplicate threads peaks just prior to the announcement. Threads about the next phone starts immediately after the latest version is announced.

The only threads that get closed because they are duplicates are ones that duplicate threads in any of the forums in News and Article Discussion. Other than that, the owners and mods could not care less about duplicate threads, particularly ones started by newbies.

Others may not know that MRoogle hasn't worked in months.

Have to completely disagree with the sentiments of this thread. These are discussion forums on a website that is itself called "MacRumors"...doesn't that give you a clue? I see this time after time on forums, where people get sick of other people speculating. Sorry, but it's human nature to crave knowledge and discuss the unknown, and that's where a lot of the thrill/enjoyment comes from - the chase itself, not necessarily the catch. If you don't want to take part in such speculation and discussion, skip the threads and go play elsewhere until the iPhone 5 launches. Simple as that really.

Yes, I will acknowledge that there can be a prevalence of duplicate and/or pointless threads, but that's for the moderators around here to sort through and tidy up. Got a problem with a thread, report it instead of creating a thread yourself just to moan about it, adding nothing constructive at all to the proceedings.

What baffles me is the number of people who +1 the original post too...seems like plenty of people either don't have a clue why they are here, or are unable to sort through the stuff that interests them and ignore the rest

adding site:macrumors.com to the end of a Google search is probably the best method.

Yep, those are the only 2 possible explanations.

And Thank You

Dear God, I don't want to complain like this but I can't help it. Why do you people keep asking questions about a product that nobody has any information on?

The new iPhone is as mysterious to us as the origins of our universe and yet it doesn't stop people from asking "Will it compete with the Galaxy S2", "What does it have to offer?" "When will it be out?!"

NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING, PEOPLE! STOP ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT IT!

Somebody sticky this ****.

I could not agree more!

Why are you bothered?

It's each persons right to post on this public forum.

It's as simple as that.

When the iPhone is announced, we will get threads on when preorders will begin even though the keynote specifies it. Then, we see threads asking us about upgrades when they can just call their carrier. After that, we get threads about how they're in line and maybe servers go boom. Finally, we have unboxing threads, "whats this button do?" threads, and "hi new iPhone user here" threads.

Yea but the site has a basic search that you can't miss, and has been stated, some duplicate threads even have same threads on the main page. There's no excusing laziness or attention seeking.

I don't care if this was called MACUNEDUCATEDGUESSES.com, people asking questions about things that, had they been born with a functioning brain, they would know nobody has any capability of answering, is just ridiculous.

It's like watching a bunch of apes ask questions about advanced physics equations.

Whom are the apes asking? Are they asking other apes or physicists? Would a question about basic physics be okay? Personally, I would love to be a witness.

The whole purpose of this site is to discuss rumors. In fact, that's what makes it ingenious; it perpetuates itself.

Seriously, if you see a redundant thread, say to yourself "nothing to see here, move on".

"Sticky This Thread"....bahahaha! If u see a title ur not interested in, or one that's redundant, simple move on or click the small red "x" and move on to a place with more educated members.

BTW, I'm betting on a total redesign. Care to wager?

I would respectfully suggest that the OP needs to step away from the forums for a bit.

now this had me laughing for a while haha

It's also my right to walk down the street and tell every person I see to (blank)-off. But does that make it the right thing to do? How does that affect my community?

The thing everyone is ignoring here is that this is a community. And in these communities there are common practices that are considered respectful and disrespectful to the community. The first respectful act being that new members should take the time to read some of the existing threads before posting. I'd say they shouldn't even post the first time they visit. Secondly is using search. So many threads i've seen are asking a question that has already been asked and is only a few threads down from the top!

And seriously, all the threads that say the iPhone 5 vs bs Android flavor of the week? We don't even know the specs yet! How can you speculate if the iPhone 5 is better or worse if you don't know the specs? Let's start by speculating the...specs. :p. Once the specs are known, speculate on a winner in those match ups all you like.

Oh, and who is starting our poll on if invites will go out today? /sarcasm
