I used to own an iPhone 7 Plus Matte black but due to a dust under the camera glass, I sold it and ordered a new one. Problem is its so hard to buy the Plus version and mine won't arrive until mid November. Right now I'm using an iPhone 7 and really like the size and weight, especially the weight as the Plus is much heavier. I also get really good all day battery on the 4.7. Camera has the same quality except for the 2nd lense on the plus. However, the 7 Plus has some notable features:
-bokeh effects, optical zoom
-higher resolution + bigger screen
-better battery life
-3gb ram

Other than this, everything else is the same. Plus the 7 Plus is $120 more. Since I plan to upgrade again next year, I feel like the 7 Plus is a bit overspending for me. What bugs me is the 4.7 iphone 7 is just like the 6s so while I buy the new phone, it feels "old" while the 7 Plus feels newer due to the new features.

I really enjoy my regular 7. The plus is slightly too large for my enjoyment, and the optical zoom/portrait effect aren't enough for me to struggle with one handed use (I tried for two weeks). The resolution and battery life don't affect me, as I think the 7 looks great and lasts all day for me.

Your post already made all the excellent arguments that one should skip the 7, and just go for the 7 plus.

You want people to talk you into it? I don't give a rip what you get.

I went with the 7 over the 7 plus as I had the 6s plus for some time and that gave me the experience I needed to know that I prefer a smaller phone. The smaller form factor was more important to me than the additional features of the 7 plus.

Of your points that you brought up, I don't think the 3GB of ram is as big of a selling point (to me) since you plan to upgrade next year anyway. Now, if you had planned to keep it for longer than a year that becomes much more important. Otherwise the points you brought up are what you need to decide if those are more important than the smaller form factor of the 7.

Yeah one of the main factors I'm leaning towards the 4.7 is because I plan to upgrade next year. It'll be very hard to resist not upgrading next year. The iPhone 7 is my first ever iphone and I feel like I buy it in the wrong year... This year is not a very good year to get a new iPhone ( my Note 4 died so..)

I know what you mean. My wife, whom I recently married, is 5'7" like my last one. She feels "old". I'm thinking of upgrading to a taller new one.

Yea, just keep the 4.7" and save yourself the trouble of selling.. it'll make the next iPhone upgrade feel even better

I own both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Both great iPhones. The 4.7 iPhone 7 is really the perfect size when it comes to handling and transport. You mentioned the main differences from the two, but it's main focus is the smaller size. If you like a larger 5.5 screen and have no issue with carrying it, then the Plus has More to offer. But the I personally love the size of the 4.7, it's just right. And both models have improved battery life with an additional two hours.

i took the plus for battery life and camera.. honestly .. im getting marginal difference on the battery life.. almost same with my iphone 7... and im not so impress with the portrait mode.

might go back again to iphone 7...

The iPhone 7 is the real iPhone, and the real iPhone experience more importantly. Look at the usage of the big screen on the Plus and this is obvious - the UI doesn't take advantage of the extra pixels whatsoever, except for the lame and useless landscape mode which adds absolutely zero in most apps.

The plus is an afterthought, with the gimmick of a dual camera and fake DOF mode.

Keep the 7, enjoy the iPhone as it's meant to be.

The only problem I see is that the 7+ is might be too expensive for you right now, depsite its advantages over the regular 7. So I say don't feel bad, take the regular 7 and wait for next year's upgrade. Or better yet, keep your current phone and wait for the next iPhone, you know you'll want it. It's only 10 months!

I got a 7+ this year because I wanted a noticeable upgrade coming from a 6. I couldn't be happier, I usually upgrade every two years so I'll most likely skip the 2017 model - but not the 2018, which will be even better that the previous one, etc, etc..... :)

If you say so, must be true!

I feel the exact opposite. I am 6' tall with big hands and aging eyes. The plus offers the perfect upsizing in font size and keyboard size. Just for the safari browser alone, my 7+ looks so much better than the 7, that I would opt for the plus. In other words, I prefer and appreciate the simple up-scaling of the same content.

People with special needs and disabilities (such as your failing eyesight) obviously appreciate such things. However that's an exception, not a direct benefit of the poor UI design and space utilization.

I am 6'2", 250lbs and 11% BF, and can palm a basketball. This has nothing to do with the facts I've stated above as to why the iPhone 7 is the real iPhone and the Plus an afterthought made to fill the segment which was bleeding market share to Android.

Facts..."the real iPhone"... Come on... OP has also listed some actual facts. Enjoy your 7 but there are people out there who might prefer the 7+ for legitimate reasons, and obviously different reasons than yours.

I suppose by the definition, everyone that prefers larger screens has "special needs and disabilities", including all iPad users. You probably think iPad is an after-thought too.

iPad is a tablet, and as such subject to a completely different set of user requirements and UI parameters to a smartphone.
