Reminiscing...

Well, this certainly ended up giving a good result. It seems Macs really are reliable, and that anyone who says they aren't is suffering from listening to the vocal minority too much.

And what the hell is it with people's fixation about the damn Xeons??? Geez, deal with it! It must hurt so much to not be included!

Ah well. So, anyone who hasn't voted yet???

I voted new member, happy with Intel Mac, as I just got my MB, 2.0 C2D 1G in early Feb, although I joined here way earlier than that.

In my case, a Hackintosh decided me to get a "real" Mac, as in Macbook :apple:

went with "long time member" happy with Core Duo Mac, which is true. I'm very happy, not sure if I'm a long time member, but I had an iMac G5 and iBook G4. Not long time really, but long enough to know that Intel Macs are very good computers!

Can you show me where on Apple or Intel's site it refers to Xeons as Core 2 Duos.

There's no need to be quite so pedantic and disingenous, is there? The 5100/Woodcrest Xeons are part of the the same family of chips as Core 2 Duos, based on the same microarchitecture (source). They may not have exactly the same branding, but for the purposes of this poll, which lacks any better choice, Core 2 Duo is the closest option for any Mac Pro owners. A cursory glance through Google search results will reveal a large number of web sites that cover the three chips as an ensemble.

Pray tell, what would you suggest?

Mac Pro (last year) and SR MBP (this year), that I used everyday for graphic design work. They are some of the best quality and most reliable computers that I own.

voted unhappy.

It's a bit of a black&white choice here, so I had to.
Mostly I'm disappointed about the battery life on my C2D MBP. The G4 did waaaaaayyyyyy better.
It runs a bit too hot for my taste too.
Dislike the keyboard, but everyone else I know thinks it's ok, so must be me...

Otherwise, great machine...

Battery life? No desktop replacement laptop is going to have that great of battery life but you should still be getting a good 3-4 hours which is what I get. Hot, maybe, but if you're running your system all day and with full apps too then any LAPTOP will especially be hot. Keyboard, meh, it is a bit too far back for my taste but you can get a cheap $10 keyboard from Tiger Direct if you don't like it so much.

Bought my first Mac a year ago in April... CD iMac very happy with it still, no problems to note. Just purchased a C2D Macbook about 2 weeks ago, higher end white model, upgraded ram to 2gigs myself, and so far its been great as well. No flaws with it that I can detect yet. I'm a happy camper :D

Core Duo

I had one of the first Titanium Macbooks. It was a huge step forward from my
"state of the art" IBM laptop. Last September I replaced the old Titanium with the core duo Macbook Pro. It's a great computer! Since I'm in the multimedia business I can test work on the XP side of the computer using parallels.
