I got occasional stutters with unlimited 1080p material on my 2011 Samsung TV Plex app. The exact same content played back via ATV4 perfectly. Well, perfectly if you discount the lack of 24p support.
So I gave this plex thing a whirl last night and had mixed results. I ripped six of my 101 blu-rays just to test things out, and while half of them played flawless at Unlimited 1080p, the other half had frame drops and visual pixelation issues every 10-ish seconds anytime the quality was set to higher than 20mbps 1080p.

Thus far I've been unable to determine any kind of common thread amongst the films which didn't work; I've looked at everything from bitrates to audio formats to studios and double-checked the files locally. There's a few similar reports already on the Plex forums, so I'm hoping it's an issue in the Plex app that simply needs to be addressed. Otherwise the whole Plex thing isn't going to work out for me.

I'm very intrigue by Plex, and it would make sense for me to have all my media in one place and manage by one app. I have multiple video's on Amazon, iTunes and Flixter (ultra violet). Will I be able to sync all my movies and TV shows from all these places to Plex?

I have been user of XBMC since original Xbox (even its predecessor XBMP). I have been running OpenELEC for quite a while on a dedicated small PC to my Television - in Living Room and Bedroom. To play video on my IOS devices I have used Infuse Pro.

Still waiting to receive my AppleTV and see all the excitement about Plex. I have heard of Plex before but thought it was just a commercial fork of XBMC. I installed on my server this past weekend, and after a few days I am so impressed that I subscribed to Plexpass and am going to be using Plex to replace most of my XBMC devices and players on IOS. IOS apps are amazing - can't wait to try on AppleTV 4. I also like how I can also stream my media anywhere through web. It's like I build my own private Netflix!

Now I have been wondering why I have missed out on Plex for so long. XBMC/Kodi is good but Plex just seems better. No more having to mess with my Library across all devices.

Plex started life as the official Mac port of XBMC. However differences of opinion regarding code check-in and platform specific features forced the projects to split. Hence Plex was born. However at this piont they have grown to be very different products. By not being burdened by the politics of open source, Plex quickly became a more polished solution.
