Are there any iPhone Plus lovers like me that are concerned that the anticipated iPhone 8's screen size is going to be smaller than what they are used to and therefore, be a step down?
I really love my PLUS and I don't really want to go down to a smaller screen. All the mockups and leaks that I've seen at least, show the 8 as having a narrower screen. What say you?

I have been saying this for WEEKS. For 3 Reasons.

#1. Functionally right now the 7 Plus us 5.5" of useable display size with a Home button and edges to hold. The iPhone 8 will be 5.1" of useable display size with 0.7" of Virtual buttons and home buttons technically smaller display when Texting emailing or using social media. I had this same problem going from the Note 5 with Buttons to the S8+ with Virtual buttons the S8+ gave me a smaller useable space than the Note 5.
#2. Regardless of all that Apple is Forcing and duping people into buying the Lady Like in size 5.8" Iphone 8 which is as small as the current 4.7" iPhone 7 due to no Home Button and its Ladylike small. But there is No iPhone 8 PLUS that we know of. So you have a ladylike small display theres no flaunt factor there theres no swaggger factor of having a big display.
#3. No other option we here on the Forums are fully informed and enjoy tech gossip but the vast majority of people will be over joyed to see a 5.8" OLED display like little children who don't know any better.

You're not great with women, are you? :D

I recently had this exact same discussion with a friend of mine. He's not concerned at all with the size of the screen because it will be larger then the plus size just a different form factor as in no bezel. My concern is.. no "plus" size this year but there will be one next year. So to me it just makes sense to wait another year and snag the model that I would actually be interested in. Obviously it's a shot in the dark here to see what they do but for me, I haven't see any reason to purchase iPhone 8 and can easily wait till next year for the possible larger screen model. I think 7s series is in fact the last bezel design apple is going to do for iphone other than the SE series. So again, why rush out and purchase this year's? And with touch id not under or inside the screen display, that seems to be a pretty big turn off too since it's not a question of losing it as it is they just couldn't get it to work presently. Apple always finds a way to bring back something you had before, just tweaked a bit.

It might have a status bar area, making the overall size of the rest of the screen smaller than the current 7+ screen.

But what is the point in getting all worked up over this before knowing all the facts about the device? Especially Mr doom and gloom Alex with his boring "ladylike" and "Apple is duping us" comments all over the forums? We don't know if that that status bar area is permanent or whether is will disappear when using apps, watching videos, viewing pics etc.

Browsing the internet on an iPhone is full screen, until you bring up the options on the bottom for going back/forward, new page etc. Maybe it'll work something like that.

I certainly wouldn't start a thread over my concern over the possibility it will be ever so slightly narrower.

THANK YOU!

The question will end up being, "Will this be material?" Plus size was arbitrary in the first place - it could have been smaller, it could have been even larger. You've become used to the current Plus size, you love it (in comparison to the smaller standard size or the even smaller SE), and so you can't imagine being happy with anything smaller. That's human nature. But humans are also very adaptable - if we weren't, we wouldn't be as successful we are as a species.

It appears you will have a choice - a "7s Plus" with your favored screen dimensions, or the "8," which will have more advanced features and a smaller screen (I would call it "somewhat smaller," others might call it "unacceptably smaller). If you need a new phone at all, you'll do what humans always have to do; balance the pros and cons of each model, and decide which features are more important to you.

But to put things in perspective - We're talking about the difference (if scaled-up) between a 15.54" display and a 16.5" display; a 20.72" display and a 22" display. The question then becomes, will those displays have the same resolution (smaller dots on the smaller display), or will they have the same dot pitch (fewer dots on the smaller display)?

When watching videos I reckon the function area will become part of the display- allowing for nearly 5.8” of display- more than th 7+. And yes, it will be narrower, but have you ever watched a film on your phone and noticed how narrow the content is. Apple has thought this through.

Screen size should be larger because of taking up the entire body. Only thing I would be concerned with is moving to a less-wide phone. I've gotten used to the wide keyboard.

all jokes aside (never thought I'd be on this side of 'size') but bigger in smartphones isnt' always better.

Resolution/screen real-estate is better when less than 1.3" is to contend with: trust me on this.
I'm looking forward to massive increase in resolution and much smaller icons.

I wish they would make a bezel-less iPhone 8 that's the size of the Plus. I'd be all over it.

Very likely coming in 2018 according to rumors posted a couple of months ago. Samsung already has the display done in the Galaxy S8+ with a 6.2" screen and is within a few millimeters of the iPhone 7 Plus in size.

Apple knows supply will be constrained in 2017 so why not introduce the mid-size model exclusively for $1,000+ knowing people will still buy every one they can make. Maximizes profit while encouraging comparisons to the existing plus models so as to minimize the perception of the price increase.

I purchased a iPad Pro 12.9" for my large screen iOS needs.

I'm over the phablet fad. Outside of the core first party apps no one ever puts in tablet inspired features into the phablet phones, not in Android and not in iOS. My 6+ is the last of the plus sized phones I'll buy. I don't care about the camera on the phone but I understand why they made that distinction in the 7 Plus in order to keep selling the phablet model despite the disappointing software.

I'm not in the market at the moment, but when I do upgrade I'm probably only going to get the base version of the regular iPhone.
Me too. I'm rocking the SE now and very happy.

Including a smaller keyboard than the Plus.

Keyboard on the iPhone 5S/SE seemed smaller than the 6S yet I was more accurate in typing on the 4" screens for some reason. I just got the 7 so I love the larger screen - but it's mostly do the larger storage, better camera, and higher resolution. If all this was in the iPhone SE - BOOM I'd be on that!

Looking forward to the iPhone SE redux with more curved sides, better resolution, higher storage (up to 256GB), better camera and silicon.

At the moment I think ONLY Apple and Sony make decently powered, if any at all, 4" screen smartphones.
