I have two A5 devices, both running 5.0.1. When the jailbreak is finally released I would like to give it a go. I have never jailbroken before (and never have a pre-5.0 device) so I would like to prepare as best I can so that I have options if I want to undo it later or have a problem and need to start fresh and jailbreak again.

Tinyunbrella, iFaith, etc... do they all do the same thing at this point (save the info that will let me downgrade or restore in the future if Apple has already put 5.1 out)? I get the impression that things changed a lot when 5.0 came out (specifically, that when a new version is released you are no longer able to restore a prior version unless you have things saved correctly) and it is hard to know what still applies. I am not concerned about unlocking (so I don't think baseband matters to me, but I am not 100% on that either).

Can anyone point me to a sort of "beginner's guide to jailbreaking" that explains the current state of affairs and not how things were back on earlier iOS versions?

Again, I am sorry to ask... but there is so much information that seems not to be relevant anymore.

i agree 100%.

i goto sleep at night cuddling my iphone, and my chica just passes out by herself. she is used to it. she knows better!

Who's to say the same isn't true for the A4 video though 🙁

I'm hoping we see it by Tuesday. "A few" usually means at least two, so I'm guessing today isn't in the cards.

Very true, I don't think today will be the day....i mean of coarse we could always get surprised...but i think tomorrow or wednesday the latest....man that second when it drops is going to be great...Cydia did seem to open really quickly on that 4s in the video...I had dreams about it last night....kept waking up and checking my pod2g's blog hahaha

Yea. I'm sickeningly obsessed. It's a vicious cycle. We wait for the new iPhone, then wait for the new jailbreak, repeat.
 
I've not seen this much speculation and conflicts since the launch of the original iPhone.
It'll come when they're ready (obviously). I'd prefer to wait a bit than screw up my iPad and/or iPhone.
 
im thinkin we will be very impressed with this jb. the stability should be flawless with all the teams together and working on it.

It would be much easier to wait patiently if the powers that be wouldn't tweet/blog things like, "soon, in a week, almost, in a few days, in a few".
THAT is why peeps are so antsy, (clearly the devs are having a little fun with it).

Speaking of, there is this.

They also could be taking their time, not only for getting the JB right, but to give saurik time to harden up or get additional hardware in for Cydia. With the last JB and everyone grabbing it, Cydia pretty much got DOS'ed.

I agree...I wonder what would have been if this "dream team" was never put together....do you think it would have just taken Pod2g longer? Or maybe it would have never got done? I am just very grateful that they came together to get this done for us. I have never donated to a jailbreak, not sure why, but I did this time.

very true. also was nice to see saurik helping out with the sandbox code part of this jb. i wonder if he was losing $$ by not having this jb out...and knows if he helps, cydia will see another million visitors = $$

I'm wondering if there is an unlock they're waiting on, or if they are working on a downgrade path or other components. I mean, I would be so grateful for just a jailbreak in general, but I wonder if their are other components they are trying to release in conjunction so that there is a strong foundation for jailbreaking A5 devices and iOS 5.

It would be funny if they checked these forums and saw how crazy we got when he just posts an update on his blog. And how we try to decode every word pod2g writes

seriously doubt they bother with the forums- I honestly don't think there egos are that big. I'm sure people will disagree with that. Also do a Twitter search of any of there names on Twitter they already have plenty to laugh at.

yup...they get enough crap on their twitter and email accounts. like that video just released. it had 4k+ badge on the emails. nuts

Did you not read planetbeing's info? Unexpected problems do occur.

I think your 'having fun with it' statement is floored. They can't win if they say nothing, nor can they win if they give ETA (keyword: estimated). One would assume they would prefer to have no issues at all, and be able to release it as quickly as possible. If I were a developer (on jailbreaks) i'd have given up on such users as yourself.

But of course in your own right, if you wish to be a really eager beaver, this will help you.

It really wasn't a complaint, I think you misinterpreted it. It was a fairly accurate observation of how much some people freak out when you give them an update of generalized info and fail to give them the concrete details that they're actually hoping to hear. I fully support the dev-team and independent iOS jb-ers and have always donated whenever financially possible for me.
 
you guys remember ihackman007? well he is back and he is claiming he released a jailbreak today but its just repacked redsn0w. Just thought I would post this for the lolz

when he reactivated his twitter count to post this, and then re deleted it haha. It has a bunch of .txt files where he says FU a bunch and as such trolls should say
