Also, I know there are tons of people out there with A4 or even earlier devices who wants the untether now and don't care about it could be interesting to wait A5 is finished to release or even 5.1, so that we don't waste an exploit that took me months to find and develop.

I interpret this to mean this instead:

Also, I know there are tons of people out there with an A4 device, or even earlier devices, who want the untether now and don't care about the A5 devices. It could be worthwhile to wait until the A5 device jailbreak is finished (or when iOS 5.1 is released) before releasing the A4 jailbreak so that we don't waste an exploit that took me months to find and develop.

So you're reading it like me where it is an either or...A4 gets theirs when either the A5's is released of 5.1?

exactly.

First post in this forum...

My interpretation to pod2g's latest blog is that "he has already sent his work for the A4 iPhone to Chronic Dev team to polish, test etc...then they will probably release it ahead of JB for A5. He will concentrate more in working for the JB for A5. That way, all A4 users can probably have their JB without waiting for the JB for A5. At least that's how interpret his latest blog :D

I would agree with that - I think.... :) (assuming you meant, "A4 gets theirs when either the A5 jailbreak or iOS 5.1 is released")

I would agree with this. It would be foolish for a jailbreak for A4 devices to come out now, especially if a similar exploit exists for A5 devices. If the jailbreak for A4 devices comes out, and Apple patches it in 5.1, A5 devices are left out in the cold.

So it would be better, and logical, to wait until either the A5 jailbreak is complete and released, or 5.1 comes out. That way, there is a higher probability that the exploit used for A4 devices, as well as that similar exploit for A5 devices exists in iOS 5.1. That also leaves a clear upgrade path for A4 devices, plus a viable jailbreak for both, and a new OS to boot.

Win for all devices involved.

He says he has sent his untethered A4 work to the chronic dev team so they can include it in the next redsnow release. Now that work is done he will focus on the A5, which could take weeks or months.

Either way, A4 owners are gonna have the untether probably in less than 2 or 3 weeks. A5 will come later.

- I gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP.

ASAP = as soon as possible, meaning we won't have to wait for the A5 exploit.

finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP. KEY WORD = RELEASE.

They wouldnt RELEASE if they were going to wait for the A5.

Truthfully I would want them to wait till 5.1, Has he said if 5.1 works with his exploit.

We have waited this long, we can wait a little longer for 5.1 JB if its compatible.

I would disagree. "ASAP" is usually intended to mean quickly & without delay. However, from what I've read of pod2g's posts, writing English isn't one of his better skills.

To me (and this is based purely on other posts I've read), he means ASAP to mean "as soon as practical", not necessarily quickly & without delay.

Just my 2 cents...

I'm hoping this is the case, he has made other posts making it sound like he is really close with the A5...perhaps just polishing it up and getting the tool ready...I dunno.

i wish apple would just release 5.1. it has been a bit since the last beta...are they having a pissing contest with the dev's?

Wasn't it posted somewhere that the current 5.1 beta has an expiry date of 12/31/11? If so, there may be a release as early as the beginning of the year, if not at least third beta.

How many betas does apple traditionally release? Obviously a major iOS upgrade like when we went to 5.0 will have more than a 5.0.1...but what about a 5.1? Does anyone remember how many were released for 4.1 or what ever the equivalent would be to 5.1?

i heard 3-4 was the normal...

5.1 won't bring nothing important. Why do people want to wait for it? The betas show it has nothing important, just the delete option in photo stream and I guess some bug fixes.

5.1 won't bring nothing worth waiting.

it is important to the jailbreak community bud.

if they released the jb now, for 5.xx FW...that would make everyone happy NOW.

then apple gets their hands on the exploit and patches it, and releases 5.1. now anyone that gets a new iphone, or 'accidentally' updates is screwed.

its taken months to find this exploit, we are not at the liberty to just let them get patched.

ps. and im excited to get that photostream addition as well bud.

What I'm wondering is if I'll be able to stay at iOS 5.0 and jailbreak when it's released for A5 devices?

Yes. You will.

I have my iPhone 4S with me. I haven't even taken it out of the box, and ahve been using my iPhone 3G (jailbroken and unlocked, 3.1.3) until a jailbreak for A5 devices is released. As MN mentioned that you should stay on 5.0 if you want to have the ability to unlock, and that the newer 5.0.1 includes a baseband update, staying at 5.0 is the better solution for now if you want to jailbreak and unlock.

I'm pretty sure MN's quote was in reference to the older devices since ultrasn0w didn't work on 5.0.1. No info was given about the 4S yet. I do agree that staying on a lower version is for the best... But I'm inclined to think the bb updates so far have been attempts to fix battery issues (and the no sim issue)
