It took Apple nearly three months to release 4.1, so we are probably one month from 5.1, and two months until a A5 jailbreak. :(

We'll probably see a new 5.1 beta tomorrow and early next week. Usually the third beta is a good indicator has to what 5.1 will bring.

What I'm wondering is if I'll be able to stay at iOS 5.0 and jailbreak when it's released for A5 devices?

Yes. You will.

I have my iPhone 4S with me. I haven't even taken it out of the box, and ahve been using my iPhone 3G (jailbroken and unlocked, 3.1.3) until a jailbreak for A5 devices is released. As MN mentioned that you should stay on 5.0 if you want to have the ability to unlock, and that the newer 5.0.1 includes a baseband update, staying at 5.0 is the better solution for now if you want to jailbreak and unlock.

BL.

I'm pretty sure MN's quote was in reference to the older devices since ultrasn0w didn't work on 5.0.1. No info was given about the 4S yet. I do agree that staying on a lower version is for the best... But I'm inclined to think the bb updates so far have been attempts to fix battery issues (and the no sim issue)

Thx dudes! I don't want to have to do anything to my 4S except run Redsn0w to jailbreak. I'd like to stay on 5.0.

I remember MN tweeted something about a "very promising 4S unlock" so hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.

Id like to think at most a month away for the A5 jailbreak...pod2g has tweeted that he has made some good progress previously on the A5

That may be true...but remember, they are waiting on Apple to release 5.1 to the public. 5.1 could go through 6 betas if Apple wants it to....which means it'll be months before 5.1.

From what his broken English post sounds like he is waiting for either the A5 jailbreak OR 5.1 (for the A4) which ever comes first

While I will be glad when the untether comes out, I think people make far too big a deal about it. Especially with SemiTether out there now.

Id be fine with a tethered jailbreak...I got a 4s...so thats why Im checking like every hour even though it could be like a month until the jailbreak

with the release of the A4 untether for 5.xx, im really curious to know what his status is with the A5? he is too smart to waste that exploit...

im thinking he has an A5 right around the corner for us.

I agree.

If A5 isn't close, than it would be a complete waste of these rare and hard to find exploits and then we will be back in the same boat with ALL devices in a matter of weeks.

I think if you have an A5 and are on 5.0.1 you should be good to go. Apple is going to close the hole no matter what, so update your 4S to 5.0.1 before its too late.

here is some more news on what MN and the dev team think:

@pod2g is now looking for a way to extend this to A5 devices. Because those devices cannot use geohot’s limera1n exploit to inject the untether, they require exploits above and beyond those used for this release. Keep following pod2g on twitter or his blog for any progress reports!

so does this mean he has nothing?

His blog says

doing the untether in a single thread and by flushing all the dcache then all the icache in a row at a strategical point of the process

Then he says

I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me

I thought that it was just the cache problem to over come. Which he did with help from Saurik.

Now it appears he is looking for help from the dev team

I honestly thought the A5 was about done with what I have read. I was surprised when he handed just the A4 to the devs.

He handed it over so he could work on the A5...which really surprised me was I figured he would hold on to the package for the A4 and with hold it until the A5 was ready

it comes down to necessary bud. i dont use siri, and dont use the upgraded camera.

using fakeclockup, speed is the same. and i have no patience.

So you want me to believe everyone buys their iPhone to jailbreak? If you are going to sell a smartphone for a previous model because of exploits in software, that is crazy. I jailbreak, but i'm not going spend a lot of money on a phone praying that it is jailbroken.

Lol, you people are killing me. Selling a 3 month old phone for a 16 month phone is hilarious.

Yeah... sure... you keep your super new phone which is 100 times better than the iPhone 4... Yeah... They are sooooooo different... Yeah...

Your 3 old month phone is mostly the same as my 16 month old phone... A5? 8Mpx camera? Siri? Wow...

By the way, I will be having Siri on my iPhone 4 when good ports come out, plus I keep my jailbreak.

iPhone 4 and 4S will both have iOS 6 when it comes out, so 4S is no big deal... at all...

Ya mad bro?

I'm toying with the idea of downgrading to a 4 too. I'd rather jailbreak and my 4S isn't really that much better ...

my upgrade is up Jan 8th. I been watching everything since the 4s released. I think I have decided to hold on to the I4. With or without siri. I want to watch what happens between now and the I5 release. Oh and I love limera1n.
