Ok that’s fine, but does the rumoured 2019 camera redesign make using the iPhone less appealing?
Using it? I guess not, but it could be potentially uncomfortable depending on how you hold the device in certain situations. Glancing at it/knowing it's there? Sure, for me it's much less appealing.

Look, I don't represent the majority of use cases. For example, I don't take photos with my phone. So for me, an upgraded camera module is irrelevant.

I'm a form over function person when it comes to the iPhone. Why? Because the things I do on my phone (7 Plus) can be done with, for the most part, the same efficiency on any iPhone from the 5 onward. So a 7-year-old iPhone does it for me.

You can see why I'm looking at it purely from an aesthetic point of view. I don't need a newer iPhone, but I will get one if I find it aesthetically pleasing. Specs, for the most part, don't really factor into my purchasing decisions when it comes to the iPhone. The symbiosis between Apple's iOS and its phones is just that good.

Read on. Contribute. Cheer up. :D

I have provided you all the feedback you should need and also feel sufficiently cheerful.

Now go back to whine about other users that appreciate the look of their device.

No worries. Fyi, there’s a fair amount of tongue in cheek/banter encouraged here, but cheers for the reply.

Here we go again - another episode of social media whingers complaining about the proposed new rear camera array on the 2019 iPhones.

We went through this with the iPhone X - "Oh please no Apple, don't go with the ugly oval camera"...& where are those complaints now?

I swear iPhone users can be the most superficial ones out there, caring more about form over function.

If the rumours are true, the squared off tri-lens will bring with it a much better camera.

Who cares what it looks like. It's not going to impact your grip. & for 99% of the time, you look at the FRONT of the phone anyway...

It all comes down to personal preference. I've never disliked the camera design on the X/XS, but I definitely don't like the 'leaks' suggesting the squared approach on the 2019 models. 'Who cares' is quite subjective. You don't, I do, etc.

true, but complaining about it won't make apple change the design and people will still buy it.

all this negativity for something you can't control. ppl need to go outside more.

The Phone goes in a case and most of the time you are looking at the front not the back. As long as it takes good pictures it shouldn’t matter.
Agreed

How often do I look at the camera lens currently? Hardly ever..

Would rather an ugly design that takes great photos than a great design that takes ok pics..

Reference bolded, well said. I said something similar in another thread, but chances are even if someone doesn’t like the back of the iPhone aesthetics, it’s covered in a case anyways.

Certainly if you have an apple cade that makes it look like there’s no hump. Think a lot of cases do this now anyway

It’s worth mentioning that all of the renders that we have are from amateur designers.

The actual phones are going to look way more impressive - especially if the back really is going to be made of one piece of moulded glass (I expect the XR 2 will get the camera housing of the XS).

I posted this in another thread

"I really dont understand the 4 camera design apple is going with if its true. Samsung and others have the same 4 camera style horizontal and thinner like the current verticale iPhones. Why doesnt apple go back to horizontal and go across the whole top of the phone?
It would stop all the wobbling on tables and actually look fine.
A kid can pick out the design of this being a step back I dont understand how apple designers think this thing looks remotely attractive.
Johny is sleeping or just doesnt care anymore."

That being said there are many people that do care about appearance of their phones. I dont use cases and haven't since iPhone 4. I like the X style camera vertical pesrsonally. I think if they did do 4 that it should be across the whole back that would make it look better and stop it from wobbling on a table.
Apple can make the cameras look totally fine on the back if they tried. Samsung and others have done it with 3+ lenses but this design is lazy and just plain bad. I dont like it if its true. It wont stop me from upgrading next year I just dont want it if I can avoid it.

previous years renders from other people have been pretty spot on. I dont doubt it will look very close to what we are seeing.

This yield one question to the design team, “This is the best you could do?”

If I was the ceo I would produce it. Then base their salaries on the number sold.

I agree. Its ugly but it's on the back so you won't see it much. However, defenders of the notch should stop complaining about people who don't like the notch...since we see it 99% of the time.

LOL if we were over in PRSI the next post would have been from someone attuned to whining about deflection...

Personally I don't care about the look of the camera bump on iPhones, because once I stick a case on the thing it's no longer a bump and as others have noted, it's on the back. The question then recedes to whether or not it will be ugly enough to "frighten the horses" that one is photographing. I doubt it.

For avid photographers the new camera arrangement should prove enticing. For those who rarely use the camera, price may once again rear its ugly head and suggest that a cellphone is a cellphone and everything else is some sort of Swiss Army knife of modern computing with an expensive camera included. At some point for casual photo snappers, it might become tempting to revert to a flip phone with a bare-minimum camera in it and leave "computing" and net surfing to the iPad or laptop back home.

I'm sure Apple has thought about this but maybe not hard enough yet. I love my XR but it's not for the camera and there's no way I'm spending a grand on an XS never mind on the next bump of an iPhone's camera specs. As it is I've reverted to using an SE for the "phone" part of my computing life and the XR has become a thoroughly enjoyed narrow iPad mini... but that's a one-off situation for me.
