My Tamagotchi is better and it comes in ultra max high def real 3D. It also serves great as a punctual alarm clock at 7 am. Even on the weekends!

I wonder how the Apple will solve the problem with playability on the mac if they decides to add AR game in the Apple Arcade.

I don’t understand why they want to release this game. I don’t think it will work. Harry Potter Wizard Unite has failed because the number of users was not high enough and they will release a new game with no fan base (Harry Potter has a fan base). A new Harry Potter make peoples happy even when the game isn't released.

I hope for them that the game will be a great success.

How about getting your kid a REAL pet & rescuing a shelter dog or cat from being killed?
I would rather they used this app than had a real pet. Propping up the pet market, which is fundamentally built on cruel farming and supply vs demand mechanics and has a huge environmental cost, is not something we should be doing. Make less animals and there won’t be a need for shelters. Long gone are the days when we needed a farm cat or a work dog or a horse for transport.

Perhaps some people live where it’s impractical to have a pet and/or have a schedule that prevents them from being to able to meet obligations of a responsible pet owner.
Also, some folks may just like creatively designed virtual pets they can take wherever they go. Not sure there are real life versions of the creatures depicted in the promotional materials available to adopt at local animal shelters. ?

Sorry but this is weird, lets teach the kids to have imaginery friends and pets…instead of care for the real ones …

These trailers and in-game event announcements make you feel like you're missing out on some ground-breaking new AR experience with cutting edge visuals and immersive interactions.

The reality is that it's not that. Like, they don't even make use of the LiDAR tech on Pro iPhones which would be an easy way to have these AR models actually jump around on your furniture and lay down on your bed etc.

What I hate even more is that they have even made these able to recognise things like grass, floors, etc., so they always make for some really lacklustre visuals where the models clip into the objects that can't be detected.

Always disappointing.

Also, these Peridot designs have next to no variation and look incredibly generic. One of the big draws to Pokémon is how different each one of them is and how they move differently and have differently abilities and personalities.

These Peridot all look the same to me with the exception of different colors and some having more "feathers" than others.

If I can’t force these cute creatures to live in impossibly cramped little cages and only let them out to fight each other like I’m an ancient Roman psychopath, I’m not interested. ?

Oh, i was being half joking. I must be getting old, cause I just don’t get the whole virtual AR world. I grew up in a time before the internet & “smartphones” when kids rode around on their bikes & climbed trees. To play video games we’d have to go to the local pizza parlor with a pocket full of quarters & we didn’t text each other, we had to talk face to face. Don’t get me wrong, being an adult artist, I love & use computers & smartphones… but I’m glad I grew up half in the analog world & half in the digital world. ?

Too bad you have to give away your location data for these kind of games… it seems a bit of a privacy nightmare to me.

Actually….

It all depends on how much spray paint and cute outfits you can buy for your cutesy-wutesy.

Call it: “Doggie-Cos-Play”

(Oh stop. Whatever the paint is called that is animal friendly. Not actual spray paint ?)

This has always been a thing even before the Internet existed.

Remember pet rocks?

Tamagotchi's?

Neopets?

<rant>…and so Google will have more datapoints to gather and sell. Sorry to be cynical, but this is a game created purely to hook people into giving up their privacy and allow their data to be harvested.</rant>
I’m beginning to think ALL entertainment media today is created to advertise either products or ideas. ?‍♂️ ?‍♂️

Don’t know which term I like the least:Xennial, Oregon trail generation, or the Lucky Ones…

It was pretty bad-a** though.

I can’t find the best article (and first) that I read years ago, but here’s a pretty popular one.

Yet another concept that would be world-changing with Apple glasses, and near worthless with iPhone as the viewfinder.

Always has been. Commercials and product placements have always been an aspect of Radio and TV as well.

Anyone who is playing this or is considering playing could be learning nonlinear differential equations instead.
The vast majority of people playing this probably couldn’t be learning nonlinear differential equations instead. ?

(Though, yes, there were better uses for their time. But that’s true of a lot of entertainment)

Pokemon Go got me to finally stop playing: I got sick & tired of adventure sync never working (despite updates, constant resetting game data, etc). When I found myself having to reset data every day & losing 5+ mile walks on a regular basis, that was the end of it for me.

I lasted a while; just stopped playing earlier this year. But I'd had enough.

I have a feeling this is going to be a lot like Wizarding World - a money grab.

I'm curious how many Pokémon Go players leave AR turned on. In its heyday, everyone I knew or saw playing it had AR turned off. The gimmick was fun once, but in practice it was a terrible way to interact with the app. AR glasses will probably change that if they aren't clunky, mash your face, and get hot like all the VR headsets.

These are creatures who feel so real, you'll love every moment raising them from birth to adulthood. While you explore the world together, you'll get to learn more about your cute new friends, develop a bond as you nurture and play with them, and work with other players to diversify their species.

Can't wait to watch my virtual pet being forced to fornicate with other virtual pets on public transit.

For when the real world is sad and hopeless... just make a happy one! Love it!
Truth - But hey! All you need is a basic reward system formula to electronically induce a consistent hit of dopamine the way Coca-cola used cocaine (now sugar and caffeine).

These junk apps are the equivalent of overused rice bowl food options at strip malls (Bibibop/Chipotle/etc.).
