I was waiting for this and will give the game another go (lol) now. The fitness aspect of the game is the best part and I'm glad the watch app stresses that.

The degree of advanced technology required for this mind wasting forum post is flabbergasting.

All this forum is now is flabby old dads complaining about everything. Christ.
"The fitness aspect of the game is the best part". No this is not popular because it's a walking app, there are far more accurate apps for distance and calories burned. This is only popular because it's Pokémon. Niantic wanted to see how crappy they could make a Pokémon game and still make money.

Let's hope Nintendo and the Pokémon company replace niantic before people think of this crap app when they think of Pokémon. This Pokémon go app is horrible for brand recognition.

At the very least Niantic should be working hand in hand with gamefreak. There are a ton of aspects that could be added now to increase playability. I read an article about bringing team rocket in, great idea. Maybe random trainer encounters while under 10mph. Pokémon should randomly spawn in the path you are walking based on your location, not just in certain spots in your area. As is, the only thing you can do is catch Pokémon in the same spots they always spawn, the center of cities or pokestops. I could go on but I won't.

Niantic if you read this I will gladly talk with you about how you can improve your app. I am tired of sending emails to your robot.

Jesus... ..at least before the phone out of your pocket made more sense, but now everyone will be late for something because your all checking your Apple watch.

Perfect.

They had put out that device you wear on your wrist a few months ago and whenever there was a pokemon in the area, you just pressed the button. It would throw one Pokeball automatically and you either captured it or not.

They should have done something similar with the watch. Press the button and it throws automatically.

According to reports the catch rate with that device was rather abysmal, so I'd rather take out my phone and apply razz berries and better balls as appropriate anyway. If the watch app lets me know when there's actually something worthwhile to catch instead of yet another rattata, it's already an improvement.

Niantic has announced Pokémon GO is now available for Apple Watch as expected, enabling players to discover nearby Pokémon and collect items from PokéStops directly from their wrists. The companion app is bundled with the latest update to Pokémon GO for iPhone [Direct Link], version 1.21.2, rolling out on the App Store now.

Pokémon GO for Apple Watch enables players to log each play session as a Workout, with gameplay counting toward personal Activity rings, receive notifications about nearby Pokémon, view distances toward hatching Pokémon Eggs, receive notifications when Eggs hatch and medals are awarded, and more at a glance.

Pokémon GO cannot be fully played on Apple Watch, as once you encounter a Pokémon, you must catch it from your iPhone. Nevertheless, it should allow players to stare less at their smartphone screens and focus on the real world around them while playing the game, which should dually make catching Pokémon safer.

Does the app also counts mileage when you haven't started a workout via the Pokémon app on ⌚️ ?

Don't forget curve balls, and aiming for great/nice throws. Totally impossible on a watch screen. The best design decision they made was to not try to do capture on the watch. Tapping the watch once for an automatic throw would take an already-basic gameplay experience and make it completely brain-dead stupid. This is a good 1.0 design.

You still need to have the phone app open to get credit toward egg hatching and buddy candies, as always. The watch app will show you status toward your next egg hatching and next level without starting a "workout session". Starting a workout session will apply the distance walked to your health and workout stats, and also allow you to get real-time notifications when a pokemon pops up (and you must have the phone app foregrounded).

I believe that if you put the phone app in the background, you no longer get credit toward the gameplay goals (egg hatching) and won't see when pokemon pop up on the phone or watch, but you will get credit for workout steps like any other workout app if you have a watch workout session going.

Battery drain is going to be pretty quick, especially on gen1 watches. I've been running the workout over lunch and I've lost a pretty big chunk of battery.

Will this app work on Series 1 and original apple watch? I want to get it for my son (12 in a week) and this is a big bonus :)

Great idea and it's nice to finally see it released but I can't help and think "too little to late" this would have been huge if it had launched alongside the original game release or within the first few weeks/month. I don't know about everyone else but the Pokémon hypetrain seems to have left the station long ago.

Pokemon Go is still big. People tend to see things through their own blinkered lenses but if you talk to kids from 6 - 12 then they are still playing - mainly on their parents phones when they can grab them but still playing.

My kid is 9 years old and pretty much all his school friends are still very much into it.
