I don't know why are people still complaining about Pokemon GO articles. It's like the most popular app in the app store ever, and everyone is talking about it, but if you don't like just don't open the article, jeez! Tired of comments like "Is this pokerumors?" or "Enough with the Pokemon GO news". GO AWAY! xD

It was only a matter of time... How long did that take? Two weeks? Walmart Pokémons here we come!

Well there have been places using pokestops as a way to increase traffic. Thought I read some pizza place that was marked as a stop said if people use incense it would give them a slight discount on food since it would bring in more pokemon and show that and it could have potential to bring in more people to eat.

Global Phenomenon does rise to the level of noteworthy in my book. It would be odd if it was ignored.

Please more about Pokemon Go, especially roll out dates in other countries!

I know, this site should be about Macs (macrumours.com), but I have seen many articles about iPhone and Android, so I think you could cover Pokemon too.

This was always in the cards, not some startling new development - similar things are present in their previous game, Ingress, where it doesn't detract from the game in any way.

But if they actually start doing store-themed Pokémons in the game, yeah, I'm outta here. Though the idea of capturing Ronald McDonald and recycling him into candy is slightly amusing.

Imagine all the people on a super busy day at your local Walmart Pokemon-GO'ing. All wondering around like walkers staring down at their phones mumbling things about the creatures in the game. THIS is what we have to look forward to, people.

Brilliant. I hope it will be easy for local businesses to participate, instead of sponsored locations being reserved for mega corporations. Imagine how much foot traffic this would bring into the mom and pop shops (assuming "mom and pop" have even heard of Pokemon Go).

Ditto. Nintendo should ensure that it will be easy for local businesses to participate.

My coworker told me, yesterday, how he was sitting outside a local sandwich shop (mom and pop) and all the employees had their phones out installing PokemonGo - talking about game and how the Pokemonstop at their restaurant was driving a lot of people there. lol.

I hope so too!

pokemon continues to be the Big Thing i never 'Got.'

i think it's exactly what separates gen x from millennials.
FWIW, I fall somewhere between baby boomer and gen x, never paid any attention to Pokémon when it was cartoons and video games (I'd heard the name "Pikachu", but had no other knowledge of the lore), but I downloaded it on launch day and started playing because I am an avid fan of Niantic's previous game, Ingress (GO ENLIGHTENED!), and wanted to see what they had done.

I'm, uh, I'm now a level 14 Pokémon trainer. Not sure how that happened. Even if you don't "get it", give the game a try, take it out for a walk. it doesn't cost anything*. if you end up walking further than you would have otherwise, because you're playing, I'd chalk that up as a win.

(There's an occasionally repeated line in the Ingress community to the effect of "the game is free... it only costs your immortal soul", because you don't pay money, but you may find yourself spending hours a day getting exercise by playing Ingress. Exercise is actually not a bad thing. But if you let it get out of hand, you might find yourself in a car with 3 other crazy Ingress Agents at 3am some weekend, taking down all the other team's fields in a nearby city. Hypothetically, of course.)

Does it cause you much pain to go through life with such a negative outlook on everything?

People are outside, exercising, having fun, and meeting new people who share their newfound interest.

Cook: How's that new MacBook Pro coming along, Jony?

Ive: [laughing] Here, check these out...we've innovated dozens of new watch bands in Pokemon-inspired colors. Listen to the new clasp design, it's fantastic! [Ive works the clasp half a dozen times]

Cook: [with beaming grin] That's really neat! But what does it cost to manufacture?

Ive: The same or LESS than our current designs! [smug grin]

Cook: Oh that's really, really great! We can price them as premium bands and margins will be through the roof!

Ive: And we can have them in Apple stores in less than a month to ride the Pokemon wave.

Cook: Well, keep it up Jony, I'm off to a board meeting and boy will they be thrilled. Stay focused on the future!

Imagine global mega-corps (like Apple and Nintendo) promoting, yes, really helping local family businesses with just this one game/app! Go in that direction Nintendo, please.

The whole premise of this game worries me. Leading children down dark alleyways in the hope of getting power-ups and suchlike. This isn't the end of the story here. I'm concerned at how rapidly The Matrix is becoming a reality.

It'll be just like Google AdWords or Facebook ads. Those willing to put in the largest bid get shown while those not willing to pay so much have less chance. Pay to play and the big guys have the most money to do so.

And this is why I want no part of the GO nonsense. I would've paid a significant app cost, $5 - 10, for a full-featured game that wasn't going to log my every step and stop and auction it off to the highest bidder.

That is good! Successful app needs to cash in. I remember the days when I thought Doodle Jump, Angry Birds, Candy Crush, Words With Friends and Temple Run were the hot flavors and huge. Those Apps don't even compare to the hype currently around this game.

The most annoying for me are the "adults" too mature to play such a game. If you are so concerned about a mobile phone game determining maturity then perhaps they need to revaluate.

Makes sense, they do that with the current games. In order to get some giveaways you have to go into a game store. In the past they've used Smyths, Game, and a loooong time ago Blockbuster.
