Volvo own 49% and the rest is Chinese investment. I think they are manufactured in China, but then so are Volvo's these days. Polestar operate as a separate entity to Volvo though.
Automobile manufacturer Volvo Cars, also based in Gothenburg, was part of AB Volvo until 1999, when it was sold to the Ford Motor Company. Since 2010 Volvo Cars has been owned by the automotive company Geely Holding Group

@ApplePhy That looks a lot like the Volvo C40. Are they brothers from another mother?

Correct.

Both are on the CMA platform that Volvo/polestar uses for the Volvo XC40/C40 and Polestar2.

Same battery, very similar HP figures and 0-60times

I actually love the C40 looks, had my deposit on it but due to availability for the P2 instead.

That and 2yrs free charging and 0% financing didn’t hurt either :)

this is all well and good, and Polestar may argue the point, but Volvo = Polestar. Its just rebranding!

Edit: just for more fun facts, in 2009 there was a "Volvo C30 Polestar Concept"
Do you know that you can't service a Polestar at a Volvo dealership? Dumb, but true.

So much better than the Model X and Model 3 where you just have a display in the middle of the car and no driver display. The Tesla design for those models is so dumb.

If only my Tesla did this..... Just something about Apple CarPlay that makes the experience so much better.

My Volvo S60 is "Polestar Engineered" and has a little Polestar emblem on the back.

I just ought a Plestar 2, and I can’t wait for the new Apple CarPlay to poke out it looks so good. This is an added bonus, but no Bluetooth, integration with rage routing is kinda a let down because that would actually be very useful. And I don’t know if they’d be able to make Apple CarKey happen. But I love this car. It looks so good, it’s fun to drive the range is just right. I just need full Apple integration, Google Auto is very lacking.
How is the vehicle? Drives, rides well? Any issues? I just began to notice their commercials on TV a few months ago and didn’t realize until this article that Polestar is a Volvo brand.

Volvo has a plant in the U.S. now too (South Carolina). My car was made there and I believe they are making the Polestar 3 there.

They do yes, to serve the US market. I believe Polestar split production between the US and China to produce for different markets. Be assured though, the quality of both sites are equally as high.

I have a digital dash and a HUD in my Hyundai. I wish Hyundai would do a software update to allow CarPlay navigation on both like their own sat nav does.

Which is why I wouldn't buy one or a Volvo.
I’ve got a 1992 Volvo 240 that I have driven for 412,000 miles…nothing will stop that car. Manual 5 speed, only the second clutch. I have seen them run (poorly) with only 1 spark plug. But imo Ford killed Volvo.

Volvo also manufacture XC40, XC60 and XC90's in Chengdu, China. BMW also manufacture models like their all electric iX3 in China as it makes sense from a battery sourcing perspective. This isn't a bad thing though, as it keeps costs down for consumers.
But what may be a worse thing: Volvo/Polestar is a Chinese company (technically Geely). I wouldn’t buy a Chinese car for geopolitical reasons. Even if it was a bit cheaper.

My family runs a small manufacturing company in RI. Anecdotally we are definitely noticing more people are interested in where/how their products are made and I do see a lot of low cost competitors in China!

Hmm.... did not know that. I'm in SoCal and there are very few Polestar dealers around. Kind of tilts things in Volvo's favor it would seem.

This depends. Go to the Polestar "Spaces" website (what they call dealerships) and search for your closest one. Open the details page and click the "Looking for service?" link. In Atlanta the service center is actually a local Volvo Dealer.

Rented a Polestar 2 from Hertz last week and loved it. Chose it over the Tesla (which I had before and disliked).

Much better build quality and a hoot to drive. Only downside is it clearly wasn't designed with tall people in mind. Anyone over 6'2" might find the steering wheel doesn't telescope enough and your leg rubs up against the center console. If you fit in it though I highly recommend it to those looking for a fun sedan/hatchback.

This is very nice. And Polestar/Volvo was on the deck last year as one of early adopters of next-gen CarPlay. I really like their cars but didn’t like the Google setup so went with a BMW i4 instead that I’m getting in august. But when this contract expires in 3 years then maybe they added the new UI, wireless CarPlay and car key support.

How do you like the BMW i4? That's next on my list to check out after knocking off the Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3.

Love Polestar! Geely has a very interesting brand family of premium, well-designed, well-engineered electric cars. Smart is also among them, which Geely is running for Mercedes now, with a couple of compact cars coming out. And there’s the $100k+ Lotus Eletre SUV.
