Because the MB is not as sleek as the MBP, no aluminum casing. LED backlight, illuminated keyboard. From trying both out, also MBP felt better to use.

Now with the MBA though, its given me all that plus more. Now I can just have an imac as the 24/7 home computer.

This is exactly what we've been saying. You didn't want the Macbook Pro because you needed a Pro laptop; you wanted it because you wanted a lighter Macbook with aluminum, backlit keys, and an LED screen. Well now you've got it in the MBA--but that doesn't mean the MBA's a UP MBP. It's basically a UP MB with three borrowed features from the MBP.

I haven't said anything different.
All my comments have been purely economic wise. I would have bought a MBP if there wasn't going to be a MBA.

Also about the other stuff that has taken me away from the MB to the MBA/MBP:
The newer chip and motherboard (MBA) was another major attraction to me away from the MB. So with the release of the MBA theres even more features now that want to keep me away from a standard MacBook.

I think many would agree that aluminum casing, backlit, LED screen, new chip, new trackpad, and new motherboard would automatically be favored over a regular ol macbook and worth the cost.

Oh well yeah... I would be the first to agree with you on all those points.

If you can afford to have the iMac AND the MBA then I would take the MBA every time out of a 100. :D;)

Well I have ordered the MBA and am totally in love with it, but the new chip in the MBA is still clocked below the MB. The thing to understand about the MBA is that its been designed with portability foremost in mind. As such, it has to compromise on a few things. As long as thats ok with you take the MBA. Why carry a super drive if you do not need it etc...

Buy the MBA, you will love it!

wow you just make absolutely no sense at all...the new chip is slower than that macbook chip, the new mobo dosent do crap as far as specs are concerned, OH WAIT yes! Yes! it does, it TAKES AWAY one ram slot, and ethernet slot, but yes that is certainly worth the extra cost...

Oh definitely.

And if someone needs a desktop and portability, then by all means go for the MBP. When you have other people in a household needing computer access and having to take a computer out of the house all day or for days a time the MBA is the perfect answer, especially if you want something more portable and nicer than a MB.

Waiting

Well, I'm definitely waiting for a macbook pro update..
I haven't decided if I will buy one if there is a minor "silent" update, or if I will wait for summer to see if apple does a major update (and redesign) then.
I want one so bad but my 1 gen macbook is just fine at the moment...

I am not getting the Air, they are completely different products. I only use one computer (not a desktop and a laptop) and the MBP isn't that heavy to carry around to school...
If I needed a superslim computer, and performance wasn't a concern, I'd go for the Air.

Is your MacBook acting as your desktop as well?

Truly. Have you thought about matching the MBA with the 17" HD MacBook Pro? Thats a sweet combination I my opinion... Really wish Apple would release a 19-20" portable now. That would be amazing to me :)...

That does sound nice. Though don't know if it would be worth it to me since I am a workaholic lol. Guess I'll have to ask the users of the future comp lol.

The debate about the MBA is never going to end because both sides of the "debate" are right.

The MBA isn't a viable replacement for the old 12" PB. It was NOT designed to be. It was designed to be a light/portable computer that could be lugged around easily. It's meant to be an extension of a users main desktop computer.

The 12" PB was designed to be a desktop replacement with screen size and some feature concessions to make it portable. Right now Apple doesn't offer a desktop replacement 13" MBP. That's why people are disappointed - me included. I wanted a new 12" PB. Apple didn't offer it. That doesn't mean that the MBA "suck" it just means that the product hole is still there and I'm still disappointed.

one is a two year old macbook stuck in a thinner case, and the other is the fastest laptop on the market...what are you using it for, that makes your decision for you

Gee, I didn't know that they were making MacBooks two years ago with C2D processors, x3100 graphics and access to 141MB of shared VRAM.

Come to think of it, they weren't making a MacBook at all two years ago.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
