Which iPhone are you considering?

In fairness, the Galaxy Note 8 is almost as expensive as the supposed iPhone X price. That being said, Samsung phones are too expensive.

Difference being that the note 8 will be 200 dollars cheaper in 2 months from now, while the iPhone X will be exactly the same price.

And the rest. Samsung are selling the S8 for £689 and you can buy it for under £500 elsewhere. Samsung just puts the price up there to give the illusion that its competing with the iPhone. Try finding a new iPhone 7 for £200 less than full RRP even a year after release.

How about neither, which is my option, given my desire not spend $$, I didn't vote in the poll.

Ridiculous because you don't want to pay that much. But he's completely right.

So because it's an iPhone it should be sold below market value to create a shortage..?

Starting at $1K seems to be at or well above the market value for a smartphone.

Do you then expect Apple to drop the price as production increases? So in 4-6 months Apple drops the price and then pisses off all of the customers who paid "market price"?

Mass market consumer products are not priced in this supply=demand economic text book dream you speak of.

My iPhone 7 does everything I need for it to do. Satisfied, and you can buy whatever meet your fancy.

Is the iPhone X mass-market? iPhone 8, yes. But I wonder if the iPhone X will be their special edition and therefore priced a lot more.

People are going to scalp these phone for $3k if there is a shortage. If this happens, I will move on to Android and suffer.

So cheap that the homeless and people starving and those struggling to pay bills every month, can afford it

OP must be warren buffet to think $1000 for a cheaply made cellphone is considered too cheap! WOW

It is already priced more based on the rumors. All smart phones are mass market products except for the crazy expensive niche ones like Vertu. Production issues are limited iPhone X supply, not Apple purposely making so few.

It's all about supply and demand.

Which iPhone are you considering buying - the iPhone 8/8Plus or the iPhone X? If most people are considering the X at its rumoured $1,000 price, then Apple need to increase it.

Looking around these forums, the majority seem to be saying they're going to get the iPhone X. But at a rumoured maximum manufacturing yield of 10,000 per day, there just won't be enough of them to go around.

So, the price of the iPhone X needs to be higher to push people onto the iPhone 8, so those who can afford the iPhone X will actually get one. I think the X should be more like $2-3,000.
No, all that does is making me keep my 7 Plus, so Apple loses a sale as I'm only interested in the iPhone X but not for $3,000.

It isn't a dream and I'm not speaking of that... would you like me to introduce you to intertemporal economics?

$1000 is too high. IMO this should be treated as just a major revamp of the iPhone. Just like how Samsung did with the S5 > S6 or Note 4 > Note 5. Just because you do a major design doesn't mean you need to double the price. People expect changes every year. I mean just look at the iPhone 5s > 6 or 3GS > 4. Those were also major redesigns.

Definitely needed a thread like this since 1k for any smartphone is too expensive. Can't blame Apple though, not enough competition.

Introduce me to a mass-market consumer product, sold on the scale of the iPhone, that has a fluctuating price based on supply meeting demand.

My problem with this is not the actual rich that will use this to flaunt, it's the countless minimum wage welfare kids that are going to go into debt just to get this phone. Smart wealthy people don't pay for status symbols and typically make good decisions with their money. If this is anything like the iwatch and you're not getting many features for the cost difference then the only people that will be fighting for it are all these ghetto fabulous retards maxing credit cards to buy this thing just like they do with their versace wallets, and michael kors purses.
