Is your iPhone cracked?

Please state the color in your post and model i.e: 8GB etc.

Idea is to give members a view of just how many are cracking and how many are working fine, after a period of x.weeks.

Thanks for the replies, I'd like this to get stick'd as it shows just how many people are having the issue to the relative number of successful iPhones.:apple:

Sorry I don't throw my phones around like a rubber chicken.

Interesting that you don't have the issue (or even an iPhone for that matter) but you know what causes it.

I guess the fact that people have observed cracks in phones being unboxed for the first time means they either throw them around in shipping or at the factory. Thanks Apple!

I've got 2 phones....

1 white 16gb iphone 3g, and 1 black 16gb iphone 3g.......

They are both flawless.

there's already a poll on this a couple of pages back.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/534692/

With way more votes but about the same percentage of responses. Seems to consistanly be around 20% of MacRumors iPhone 3G owners have a cracked phone. Also factor in jealous 1st gen owners who would vote yes just to make the problem appear worse than it is, and there's a lot less cracked phones than a quick look at this forum would have you believe.

White, 16GB, purchased after launch (ordered 7/15, picked up 7/21), MB705LL, Week 29, no cracks.

It's been in a silicon skin thingy since day one though.

:)

Those with cracks are getting them with and without cases and/or careful handling. It's obviously a manufacturing defect, not abuse that's causing the cracks.

Data point null.

I wonder if some people who think they have no cracks aren't looking hard enough, the tiny ones can be difficult to see especially if you're not observant.

I just did a full check...under bright lights.

I have a 16Gb black Iphone 3G..received it on Monday 8-4-08

Serial number 87831XXXXXX
Model MB704LL
Version 2.0.1 (5B108)
Model Firmware 01.48.02

No cracks in the case. No dust, no dead pixels, no lag...updated to 2.0.1 on monday...no issues.

Yes, I was tugging around the headphone cord in my sleep and noticed a hairline crack emanating from the headphone jack the next day. It's barely noticeable and see no reason to return it since everything else is working flawlessly.

However, I will wait a few months and exchange it after Apple addresses the manufacturing issues.
