Could someone please explain why it's impossible to brick your phone when jailbreaking? People keep asserting this, but I'd love to see an actual explanation why it's the case (i.e., beyond simply the statement you can restore). Otherwise, I think it's pretty irresponsible to make such a claim when it's evidently been falsified.
While it may be false as it relates to the first generation iPhone, since the jailbreak process for the 3G does not touch the baseband, the answer is as simple as "you can always restore." People throw around the term "brick" a lot without realizing what they actually mean. To my knowledge, and I've done a bit of reading, there hasn't been a case of a 3G iPhone actually being bricked. Meaning, not restore-able. With the previous iPhone, it was possible to brick the phone during the unlock process where the baseband was modified. Since, it's not currently possible to unlock the 3G with software modifications, this doesn't apply.
Please keep in mind that "brick" means not repairable. Find me one documented case of an iPhone 3G being truly bricked and I'll recant.
