I don't know a single person with 2.0.X that can install an App in 10 seconds. I also don't know a person with 2.0.X that didn't have text lag. All 10 iPhones I've used with 2.0.X on it performed similarly and all shared the common problems we talk about in these forums. It was not a small percentage.

And none of the people I know IRL (including myself) had any of those problems. Even all of the news stories about it that I read talked about a small percentage.

Going off of personal experience or a forum like this will skew your perception. Unless there's a survey of the millions of people worldwide, we'll never know.

Anyway, I don't want to argue, and I wasn't trying to downplay the problems that people (whatever the percentage) were having. My entire point was that the fix was good.

Wtf??

I'm sitting here, reading all of these posts, all over the place, time & time again.
The complaining about MMS, cut & paste, etc.

Here is what I would like to know..... any of you that are complaining, please feel free to answer....

If copy & paste, and MMS are that important to you, and what you expect from a phone, if it is so important, that you are going nuts not having it, WHY did you buy an iphone?? You knew it didn't have these features when you spent all the $$ buying it. WHY oh WHY would you buy a phone with features that you knew that you absolutely HAD to have

I've been biting my tongue for a week now, just trying to comprehend why you would buy a phone, that you knew you would not like???

Also, after buying this phone, and using it, and realizing that it did not, and could not do these features that you HAVE TO HAVE,, why would you have not just taken the phone back, and traded it in for something else that did everything that you needed?

OK, I'm done, I'm not really trying to be a smart #*$ here, I just can't figure out why all the complaining about features that were never there, and never promised to BE there?

P.S. Yes, I am a newbie on this forum, I was drawn to this forum a month ago, after I bought my first iphone, it looked like the most informative forum on iphones out there, and I visit 4-5 of them daily. But ever since this update was released, there are more complaints in threads, than information.
Don't get me wrong, I still think this is one of the BEST iphone forum I've found, but come on.. give it a break please.

We were all hoping that 2.1 would bring some new features, but it is really pretty pathetic (yes the improved battery is great, and bug fixes etc).

Apple never said that 2.1 would have new features, so, being disappointed over something that was never promised seems like a waste of time and energy.

If the update didn't fix the bugs you were experiencing, then you have something solid to complain about.

Can anyone recall the major argument why the iPhone was so awesome in the first place. If you watch Macworld 08, Steve makes it pretty clear that software updates are a huge part of iPhones design, and that new features will always be coming. Sorry for expecting the most advanced phone in the world to include features that ever other handset on the market can handle.

I am getting so sick of the constant complaining and whining that's going on in this forum. I'm starting to wonder why many of you even bought the iPhone in the first place.

2.1 performs exactly as advertised. The iPhone basically performs as advertised. MMS & C&P are just not part of the iPhone's features. So I ask, if it's so important to you, than why the hell did you buy the iPhone?

It's fine to have a wish list and discuss features you want to come in future updates. But except for some instability, the iPhone has always performed as advertised. So I just don't get why the incessant complaints don't stop. I suppose they never will, but it's starting to get pretty old.

Higgals is right, iPhone is like the most advanced consumer cellular phone on the market and it still can't do simple things like MMS, and record video. It's a great device, but being one of the ones to wait 10 hours for the original iPhone , I can't help but feel let down by the lack of new features. Voice dialing, disk use? I'm a huge fan of all Apple products but a pretty interface and hot selling phone is not a good excuse to be lacking in features that most other much less expensive phones can handle.

Thanks. I completely agree.

For those that are telling me to shut up etc, nowhere have I said that I don't like my iPhone, or that I want to get rid of it, or that I now regret buying it. I actually do still like my iPhone, but I am disappointed with Apple's software updates, and this thread was to see who else was disappointed with the updates also.

Yes bug fixes are fantastic, but when they haven't even mentioned that they are working on putting in some of the features that BASIC mobile phones have, then we are just getting disappointed more and more each time they release a new update.
THEN, when they do mention a feature that they are working on (Push notifications), and then say that it is due in September (which means if they are to follow through on this promise then they need to release a new update in 2 weeks), it still looks like it will not make it.
ALSO, with the latest Apple event, there was no mention of the Push Notifications which they promised. Not even a "yes it is coming, but will be delayed a bit". They simply chose to not mention it at all. If they aren't ready to release that feature, then I am all for them delaying it so that it isn't buggy - but them not mentioning it at all says to me "we screwed up and now we don't know how to tell them that we can't deliver on a promise."

Finally, one bug which has frustrated me, still isn't fixed, and yes I have reported it to Apple, and yes other people do experience it. That bug being that when you sync your iPhone with iCal, it does not sync the calendar colours across. Yes if you purchase Mobile Me then it works, but I don't have Mobile Me, and I have no desire for it. Well I guess Apple didn't see it as such a problem to fix it, as you can always get around it by throwing more money at Apple.

All in all, I still like Apple products, and I still love my iPhone. Lets just hope that they don't keep us waiting too much longer for features that basic mobile phones have, as well as the other features we all want (and they have promised).

As for the iCal colors, like I said in my first post, it's worked for me since the beginning, but I have seen some threads where people have helped others with your issue.

I'm on my iPhone right now, so I can't give you the exact threads, but do a MR Google search for the term "iCal colors" (yes, American spelling :p ), and you should find the fix.

And to the guy who thinks we should get another phone or stop complaining: no. I love my iPhone and I bought it knowing what features it did and didn't have, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't hope that Apple will continue to make it better and bring its feature set in line with the other smartphones I've owned.

Well the supposed 'fix' for the iCal colors isn't really a fix at all but a workaround. It tells you to sync your calendars one by one in the order of the color designations. But my problem is that I have 7 calendars, with 2 of them being custom colors (seems weird spelling wrongly). I might try and force a reload of the calendars and see if that fixes it (I have tried it in the past and still no joy).

I think the 2.1 Update is fine!

I'm not really bothered if they haven't introduced new features. Isn't that what the App store is for?

The new genius playlist and all that is good. And the fact that the backups and the phone run much better with less lag and bugs is amazing! :)

2.1 is not just fine, its amazing...

Its like snow leopard; forget about features and focus on STABILITY.

And none of the people I know IRL (including myself) had any of those problems. Even all of the news stories about it that I read talked about a small percentage.

And lots of people I know had 2.0 problems.

I see. I only have five calendars, so maybe that's the difference. Sorry about that, and now I understand your frustration.

Well it isn't quite like snow leopard. I have been saying for ages that Microsoft should have released an optimised version of XP, instead of releasing Vista, and now Apple is doing exactly that with Snow Leopard (well optimising Leopard - not XP lol).
I am really happy Apple is doing that with Snow Leopard too, but Mac OS X already has everything we want and need (it already has everything other operating systems have).
