Just a quick poll to find out how people are carrying their phones around

Do you...
  • Use a case
  • Use a screen protector
  • Use a case and a screen protector
  • Use nothing
Particularly thinking about iPhones, but any phone will do
Share your experiences and why you made the choice you have

I personally use nothing and have never felt the need to

I use a pursuit otter box with glass screen protector. Some of us have to go outside for work ‍♂️

Certainly understandable for certain professions, things like construction work, etc.
If you don't mind, what type of work are you doing?
And do you feel the case/screen protector hinders your use of the phone in any way?

I am the reuse water supervisor for a city. Never had any issues with the case hindering. It sure does feel nice when I take off the case to wash it and go caselsss for the night:)

I use both, given the high price of the phone, I want to do all that I can to protect my purchase.

I use just a case. I find cases give me more grip and somewhat eases the mind that there's some protection. That and sometimes I just like the look of cases.

No case on any iPhone from September 2012 to now.

I have cracked one screen, my 6+. I blame this on being under the influence of Benadryl at the time it happened.

Currently my 6s+ is in the same physical condition as when I bought it (new).

Didn't use cases before iPhone either.

I use a case only because the 6+, 6s+, and 8+ (not so bad) are too slippery to use without one. I use a tempered glass screen protector so I can be a little harder with the phone (not worry so much about keeping it nice). My last 2 phones have been 100% perfect and I got full value from Apple for them. But I don't use a case because of resale value - I use a case because the phone is 3x grippier with them. I'd LOVE to go case-less but I don't see how I could keep from dropping the phone or really scratching it up with my current environment.

It was interesting when I went in and traded my iPhone 7 Plus for the iPhone X
The Apple associate commented on how pristine my phone looked after examining thoroughly with a flashlight
My wife commented that I never use a case or protector and they were surprised because they said it looked brand new

I wish I could do this and be like you and the great @eyoungren -- it is a goal I have to someday go nekkid. :)

Ultra thin case + edge to edge screen protector.

-Edge to edge protector to protect microscratches from forming in the oleophobic coating on the screen or to protect from having the coating wear off.

-Ultra thin case for basic scratch protection because I hate cases but I got tired of always having to set my phone on a soft surface (napkin etc) whenever I went out naked. Life is so much easier with an uktra thin case so I can set the phone down anywhere. They also provide fuller coverage than most other cases too.

What about a bumper? I use a combination of an aluminum/TPU bumper and an edge to edge tempered glass screen protector. Minimalist interference with maximum protection.

I use no protection at all. I have been fortunate where I have never dropped or broken any iPhones in the past. And I manage to keep my devices in excellent condition. Although I am fairly cautious with my electronic devices, which is likely why they remain in the condition they do. And I upgrade almost annually. I just prefer to use the phone it's entirety, as it gives me the chance to appreciate everything about the iPhone and I don't like added bulk or prefer cases in general.

Have you always done this? Or did you used to use cases and then went nekkid?

Always. I will admit I do have a case, but I never use it. And I also do set my iPhone down on soft surfaces and not hard surfaces to prevent scratches. (Eyoungren does this as well.)

There is something about the construction of the iPhone that is so well-made and I appreciate holding it without a case. But I totally support cases and they definitely serve their purpose.

I went caseless with my 8+ until the cold weather set in and made it a little harder to grip securely. I’ve been using a very thin case since then. I’ll take it off when the weather warms up. I have never used a screen protector, but I do slightly regret not doing so as I have several very fine scratches on my screen.

You realize that you are proving every argument I've used for going caseless in this post right? ;) :D

Yeah, I know - :p I just don't have the courage to try -- You live in the south west right? So you have a super dry humid-less environment. I find here in the CA desert that, especially in winter, the phone just goes flying.

Phoenix, yes. West Valley.

PS. Used to work in Indio for the Desert Sun. I lived in the Pass area for 20 years. My parents are still there. :D

Hah awesome! I'm a bit north - we call the pass here the 15 - pain in the pass! --- I'm in Victorville/Apple Valley area off the 15.

Yeah, I might try to do caseless - I know the 8+ has a glass back so it's a lot less slippery than the 6s+ that I had. With AppleCare+ I should be fine (nearest apple store is down the hill in victoria gardens - an hour away). Still don't know how you guys do caseless -- I've dropped my phone twice since getting it late last year already.

Ahh, I know the area. I used to do inventory with Washington Inventory Service (my first real job) when I was 18 and we were all over the place.

Got my first speeding ticket on the 15 headed to a hardware store in Victorville.

My feeling would be that the glass back would make things more slippery. I know my 4s has to be set just right on the arm of the couch or the damn thing falls off. Don't have that problem with my 5 or 6s+.

I didn’t use any until I bought the 8 plus. Before getting used to the size I felt like I’ll drop it. So got myself an awesome high duty bumper case. Since then I’ve actually not dropped the phone ever.

I am currently using the Belkin invisiglass, Apple installed since November without issue.

Also using the Mous limitless in black leather for my X. Very happy with the combo.
