Confession...

I hated the idea at first..."why the hell would I ever want to buy a song on my iPhone and good god why would I ever want to purchase a song from starbucks?"

And then I tried it. On a whim. Expecting horrible results.

It's addicting. Terribly addicting. $25 and 15 or so minutes later, I forced myself to turn off WiFi.

Addicting is the keyword!! I never thought when the iTunes store first opened a few years back that I would buy more than a couple of songs. 5,000 songs later....Which makes me think that the people who are happiest with their iPhones are the ones who love music!

I won't pay for low quality mp3!

Ha, you self-proclaimed audiophiles crack me up. You claim superiority over "low-quality" music, but I bet you couldn't tell the difference between 128 and 256. This is not against you personally, overcast, just a general comment to people who think the iTMS is beneath them.

I guarantee you that you are right. I have spent my whole life in the music business and have seen test groups who could not tell differences in bit rates, sample rate, d/a converters, etc. over 50% of the time in most cases. Many "golden ears" can not tell the difference. Especially if you are listening on a headset. I still like lossless best on my ipod but it all sounds very good.

Wow, I safely blew a day's pay playing around on iTunes WIFI for about an hour at work...

That will teach me to succum to instant gratification!

Nope

I won't pay for low quality mp3!

I won't either. If it's not on vinyl, it's just not worth buying. I don't care if I miss out on EVERY new song, cause the stuff I have is quality and that's what really counts.

I also refuse to go to movie theaters, as they aren't as good as plays.

I won't watch TV, I rather wander around aimlessly trying to be entertained. For sitcoms, I like to go to other peoples' houses and just stand up against the wall and watch them scurry about their lives.

Interesting but I'm afraid that you won't be able to find new Blue Note releases on vinyl anymore :(

No movies? What? Most of the plays are lousy on Broadway. Any Michael Haneke movie will knock a play out the box here.

TV is alright only the Daily Show wins.

Sounds like a good basis for a sitcom.

I'm sorry, but I CAN hear the difference. I don't spend the money I do on speakers, amps and processors to pay for something that isn't even CD quality.

Why bother with lossless then, if it all sounds the same? Why bother wasting the space?

Why are there DVD-A, SACD, TrueHD, DD+ formats? Because they sound MUCH better.

if you're an audiophile and you turn your nose down at iTunes music like I would reject a $6 bottle of pinot noir, I can understand that.

It's a product for mass consumption, not the connoisseurs.

Because a very few of us can hear the difference, very, very few and very small differences.

By the way, I have every format known; 2inch 30ips 16 and 24 trk analog, 1/4 inch ATR. 1/2 inch ATR, dats, adats, da-88s,
hd recorders, 35 mag recorders,ProTools HD, etc.,
And a huge library of vinyl, as well as original cylinder records for my Edison, CDs of all types.
But I still love my little mp3s and aacs, they kick!!

That's fine, but I whether it's in my head or not, does it really matter? I can hear a VAST difference with my high end stuff. The most exciting thing about the new HD movie formats is the sound! I wouldn't mind mp3's and aacs and whatever else they come up. But the fact that I'm paying the equivalent in price, for lesser quality, that's the reason I won't. 50cents a song? Now you're talking sense. Otherwise I'm spending the $12 on my physical medium, with a cool cover, pictures, notes and cd quality sound. It's a shame the HD Audio formats never took off. I'm stuck with a handful of jazz albums and nothing else.

If you hear the difference it's not in your head, you are one of the few who can benefit from the best. And if you have a great system then the difference is even more discernible. But you have to admit that for a little file on a little nano or iphone, the aac kicks.

Nope. I have no intentions of paying for downloaded music. The thought of paying for music without owning a CD is foreign to me.

Frankly, I'd rather purchase an actual CD or just pirate a few songs.
