DID own one. Was satisfied!
I was still within my 14 day return with Best Buy so the day the Aluminum MacBook came out i exchanged it.
There wasnt anything I didnt like about the machine. I just wanted to get the newer aluminum model.

for everyone talking about the 2.1 White being *new*... Well i bought my 2.4 white in March, is there anything that is actually new on the 2.1 that is now only $999. I thought it was the exact same machine just with a lower price tag. Are my assumptions wrong?

When they say NEW, i believe they are just meaning "new purchase"
The machine hasnt changed.

I gotcha. I don't have that model of White Macbook. The model I have is from March, and it's a model that isn't sold as a White Macbook anymore. I have the model with the 2.4Ghz dual core CPU. Which is sort of my dilemma for getting the Aluminum Macbook. For the most part, I would be going down in CPU speed, unless I push more money into the bigger model. That's nice and all, but the price gets kind of close to the 15" Macbook pro so I figured, I keep this model and then get a pro.

On the other hand, I'm really happy with this macbook, but I know I'll grow out of it and want more power. It's my workhorse and I often demand what it can give me. However, I still want any of my future notebooks to be small and light so no more 17" for me. I have a PC laptop that size with which I hate moving it around. It's basically an easier to move desktop, but too heavy and large to really move places with it.

So logically, if I want to keep the CPU power, and do an upgrade from what I have, I need to go Pro. (Thankfully Pros now have the ability to match the Macbook battery life, by effectively turning their graphics hardware back to Macbook standards)

I just ordered this model (2.4GHz) from PC Connection on 12/31, since it has the same HD, RAM, and superdrive as the "new" white macbook. Even better, since it is "discontinued," I got it for $900. I also just ordered 4GB of Kingston RAM from Newegg for $34 shipped. That's the advantage of buying the "older" stuff. I also agonized over the new aluminum model, but just couldn't justify the increased price and lack of firewire (I'm not dumping my canon camcorder). I also know I'll go Pro someday, but for now, I think the white macbook will fill a good niche for a lot of people.

Despite of all the gnashing and wailing in some threads about how terrible the new Macbooks are it looks like a lot of people are actually satisfied with their Alu Macbooks.

Did have a Black MacBook, and loved a lot of things about a Mac notebook, but hated a few things.

1. It got REALLY loud when playing any video. Playing a 30-second low quality video on Youtube would run the fans over 6000rpm.

2. Really HOT.

3. Pretty low battery life. I actually bought it from someone who said he had plugged it into his TV for the 6 months he had owned it for, which is probably why the battery life is so low.

...The new aluminum ones came out and I couldn't be happier :D

Happy with mine, still no cracks after almost 11 months of heavy use & still getting 5 hours battery life.

No argument there, I was just pointing out that for some people, the white macbook is still a good buy. I wanted in an inexpensive laptop that will allow me to get some photos and videos edited and up on the web, and I needed firewire. For that, a 2.4GHz macbook w/ 4GB RAM for $940 couldn't be beat.:)
