I love them but I only ever tackle them topless. I am useless at scooping (?) without making a mess.

Great, thanks for the craving, dude! :p I will have to get one of these next time I see one.

Hey- I aim to please! Definitely go get one and empty it topless. :)

Then eat it naked. :)

That's what I do!

It was a very warm day on Sunday so I took the pomegranate I bought at the farmer's market on Saturday and sat outside to enjoy it au naturel.

Mangoes are good that way too.

In other news, I'll be having my first pomegranate next week. Is it an acquired taste or do people usually like them straight away?
I don't think it's an acquired taste; they can be a bit tart, but I think most people like them straight away. However, eating the seeds can be a little bit different.

I dont think i could ever eat pomegranates raw but i love the juiced version and try to have at least 1 glass a day. Hello tons of anti-oxidants

I call it "how the hell do I get these things out of that thing"

While I love eating them, I hate having to peel them. Drives me nuts, and usually ends up with a stain on the shirt ... and 99% chance it is a light colored shirt that will be ruined. :p

Oh, if you are eating it for the first time, don't eat the white stuff inside that is wrapped around the red "seeds".

By the way, the seeds of a pomegranate are calls "arils."

So it would be I guess scooping arils. I don't really know. But Pomegranates are amazing!

jebus now im just craving one, freaking a, the only thing i got close to it is cranberries, and i got a damm load of them.

my mom makes a bunch of these cakes that are way dank with them.

wow my mom bought some arias (forgot what name and or spelling, but the individual kernals) in a package and i demolished the whole thing, they were amazing.

anyone know how to spot a ripe pomegranate because i bought a few the other day and when i went outside to eat one at one of my almost never existing down time, i was disappointed at how bitter it was and did not like it.

A few months ago my step dad called me and asked how to eat a pomegranate. He said "I cut the thing open but there is really no fruit just a bunch of seeds, did I get one that was not fully rip?" I was thrown back because this guy is a total raw fruit and vegetable nut. He also does not like seedless fruits as they are usually genetically modified to not produce seeds (seedless grapes, oranges and the like). So then I was unable to hold back the laughter when he said, "I got the organic ones because I didn't know if the others would be seedless".

ha! Now at least when I go over to my mom's place I am able to enjoy the deliciousness of the pomegranate.

Just to make you jealous Lee, I want to inform you that my grandma has a Pomegranate bush (tree?) in her backyard. You haven't lived until you've had a pomegranate straight from the source. Good stuff.

P-Worm

My son loves them - here demonstrating two techniques for eating them. They are great - but messy when they are very ripe as they are now.

I'm super jealous now. I want one!

My parents just planted one too. It probably won't give fruit for another two years, but still.

The next time you empty (since we're using that word now :p) a sweet one, save some of the seeds and plant them in a community garden. I don't know how it'll fare in the infamous Chicago winters, but I'm sure you can find some place that has greenhouses.

Ok Lee, I was going to just look it up, but I think I'd rather have you explain it to me... How do you eat a pomegranate? I've picked up that you are taking seeds out, but then what??? I've never even seen one in person, but I love the juice and I know you can get them here easily, so I might try it out.

I just eat them with a spoon. It's the red, fruity seeds that you eat. They look like rubies. Look at the photo on page 1 in my OP.

I doubt they'd survive here. But you can send me some when they start to grow, Calboy! :)

Oh no Lee, I think you'll have to come here and get some. ;):D

You crack it, then take it apart and let the seeds fall into a bowl or plate.

Once you're done emptying it out, you eat it. :D

And there was me thinking my son was doing a good job of demonstrating :D
