im on verizon and have had this issue. sounds like the persons voice is going in and out and if i put the speaker close to my ear it sounds like wind blowing and goes in and out

so weird

I've experienced better sound quality on my iPhone 5, but I feel the noise cancellation falls short compared to my previous iPhone 4.

For instance, a couple of months ago, I called me friend (on his iPhone 4S) who happened to be at a noisy pep rally. When he answered he told me to wait a second while he walked outside because he couldn't hear a thing because it was so loud inside. I told him, that it sounded like he was in a silent room when he answered, and I was really impressed with the noise cancellation technology of the iPhone 4.

I called the same friend today on his new iPhone 5, and noticed that I could hear all the background noise around him. He was walking in a crowded hallway at school which couldn't have possibly been louder than a room full of cheering fandom.

I've also noticed that often times if I speak softly on the iPhone 5, I am not heard, when on the iPhone 4 I was always heard.

Overall, I find the call experience to be far better on the iPhone 4 than the 5. Anyone else noticing the same things I've noticed?

I have noticed this as well. I'm on AT&T, and have two friends I talk to daily on their 5s. They say they experience the same thing. I find we ask each other to repeat ourselves a lot more on the iPhone 5.

An Update... I went to my local AT&T store (closer than an Apple store) tonight to listen to what the ear speaker sounded like on a different iPhone 5.

Wow, what a difference! There is definitely something wrong with my new iPhone 5. I'll be brining mine in for a replacement soon.

So, if any any of you out think the sound on your new iPhone 5 is a step backwards, I encourage you to go to a store that has a demo model and try one out. You shouldn't have crappy audio on an iPhone 5!

I'm on AT&T and my phone sounds like at one point my ear is stopped up with water and the next it sounds as if I'm in a well and it also sounds like wind blowing and goes in and out that's all on one call.
Only the earpiece does this not the loud speaker.

Upfste #2: I scheduled an appointment at the Apple Genious Bar. They listened to the ear speaker and agreed that there was something wrong with mine.

I now have a my replacement iPhone 5 and the phonre sounds so much better
