You'd have a point if we were talking about more than ONE port.

in a world where I watch my media from a NAS, and save my documents onto icloud drive, the only time I put a flash drive into my 15" retina macbook pro was when I installed windows via bootcamp. so... that single port won't affect me at all. and for those who will, they'll just have to weigh their options, but people who buy this will be people who travel or want something super portable. i doubt many will buy this as their main workstation.

EDIT: and I should mention that I airprint to my brother printer and that my mouse is bluetooth. usb is seriously a thing of the past for laptops. it's like when apple got rid of cd drives and everyone freaked out. now look.

The problem is they hired her because she is good at sales "experience" and that's something Apple has been said to be slipping with compared to when retail first launched. The problem is that "experience" for someone passionate about fashion is COMPLETELY different than "experience" for someone into technology. Technology changes so rapidly, it's all about getting things to market before the competition, and getting the latest products into the hands of the consumer.

People don't buy the 2015 Macbook because they want the 2015 model, they buy it because it has a feature that they like, and want the latest in technology. Fashion geeks buy 2015 just because it's the 2015 line. There's no breaking technology involved, it's passion for the specific latest in the line.

To take someone from Fashion and put them in charge of Technology, seems an awful lot like taking someone from running the Apple Retail Experience and putting them someone like say... JC Penney. It just doesn't work!

We will see soon enough, if she doesn't deliver we all know what`s likely to occur...

Looking at your post history you'd have a lot of censored posts, too. LOL

you'd have to explain that. i spend a lot of time asking for help, or offering help. i tend to like updates, change...new stuff. i sometimes spend too much time asking people to stop whining tho... so really, your statement makes no sense...

I agree with this guy.

As I see it, anyone who claims to need "the adapter" is simply buying the wrong product. I get it, totally - it's a great looking machine and you want to need it.

But the focus of this product was on wireless connectivity and portability.

1. Primary desktop or equivalent setup for serious work
2. Files = AirDrop, iCloud, Google Drive, etc., etc.
3. Media = NAS
4. TV/Screen = AirPlay
5. Print = AirPrint
6. Backup = NAS/Time Machine
7. Data = Instant Hotspot

The list goes on...

If you're not ready for all - not just some - of the above, I'd strongly recommend upgrading/modernising your peripherals before taking the plunge into, what is essentially, the future.

I can't remember the last time I used any kind of cable other than headphones, and my iPhone every month or so. So, for me, this product will work. For those of you typing in clamshell mode with a 4 cables hanging out of your MBP, you're probably in for trouble if you're planning on swapping it out for the rMB.

Maybe my understanding of the product is wrong. That's what I took from the reveal, though.

I haven't even ordered one myself yet - I want to see it first. But I'm in the UK. Where it actually launches in June. Maybe.

Edit: And to better add to the discussion - I'm hugely disappointed with the way this launch has panned out. It just sounds/looks like they quite simply haven't manufactured the product yet.

Just a botched launch, even Apple`s own staff don't know what`s going on, totally unprofessional.
  • No display models in the vast majority of stores
  • No stock, and none coming soon to bricks & mortar stores
  • No preorder advisment
  • Instructing staff to push online sales, on a product you can't even try, nor is shipping in the near future
  • Extending global shipping dates 4 - 6 weeks
  • It`s a Mac, not an IOS device, vast majority of Apple`s customers have no interest
  • New Mac`s have never brought long lines to the stores
All signs of not understanding customer demand, mismanagement of contractors, inventory and/or sales marketing at it`s lowest. All Apple needed to do after the "big reveal" was list in store dates by country instead of this current debacle which has left many customers confused & disappointed...

If Apple didn't themselves make such a big deal of these things, less of us would care. They build all this hype, all for nothing. Equally it would serve Apple well to move as many Broadwell Macbook`s with Skylake in the near future, which is a point worth considering...

With hindsight, maybe Apple should have a waited a little longer to officially reveal, simply a mess...

It`s about a poor product launch and not including what many would consider standard, just to push secondary sales fits, like it or not...

Well stated. Yes, this launch is a complete joke. And the excuse people come up with that Apple is trying to avoid lines at the Apple store is crazy. There is no such company that won't take your money - none. And, MacBooks have never been a draw to the point where there are lines. The iPhone and certain models of the iPad yes...but the MacBooks never. This is a clear issue if poor production and poor logistics.

I've been using Apple products since 2008 and this is the first time I'm simply shocked at how poorly a launch has proceeded. If this was "Apple as usual" the rMB would have been on demo and for sale at stores and online last Friday - 4/16 - as they stated. Playing around with the words "shipping" and "available" are a joke. Previously, when Apple gave a product date...it's the date you can buy it.

The true launch date for the rMB is 4/16. From all indications it's clear. Go to the Apple store Thursday and Friday and they will have it in stock - watch.

rumor is she's personal friends with Tim Cook... she may be on a longer leash.

It seems like you do spend a lot of time defending Apple's shortcomings, bugs, issues, etc. Just because you're not experiencing an issue, or your expectations are lower to where you don't consider something an issue, doesnt mean everyone feels the same way.

Plus she gave up a lot to join Apple. I will give her a pass as she has to get up to speed so to speak. I'm pretty sure she can learn the business and push Apple through it's next phase in the wearable computing industry.

I just wish they clearly communicated what was going to happen.

Not a big deal to do online only, let me know.

I still feel Apple is no where near the same since we lost Steve.....not a Timmy fan at all.

Microsoft (ducking) is actually starting to do good HW for once with the SP3.

I use both OS and systems every day so I root for competition.

They didn't hire her to run the wearable tech department, they hired her to run the entire retail operation, which is dominated by mobile phones, and computers, and my guess will be Watch revenue long term will stabilize to a distant third. If they wanted someone to run Watch, that might have been a good fit for her.

Last I spoke with Apple locally it was 4 weeks, here in Southern China, at least we've got demo models here so at least that`s a start.

Am sure the floor staff are just as "hacked off " as they are pretty much in the dark and at the front end with the customer on a daily basis.

until it didn't

Yeah, look at Dell nowadays. I remember back in the days custom-built PCs were all the rage. Now 90% of consumers fit in one of the pre-fab buckets, so build-to-order is a secondary business.

I always passed on Dell because I didn't want to have to go online, customize, then have them build it and ship it to me and wait all that time. There are plenty other options that suit my needs I could walk into a store and walk out with. If this is the future for apple, they're going to lose a lot of loyalists.

It is pretty bizarre. I'm starting to wonder if Angela Arendt's gets the tech market. She sold raincoats before after all...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angela_Ahrendts
$70 million in salary? You'd think she could get a few laptops out the door.
My thought is that regardless of her tech market experience, there's no way in hell that "she" orchestrated these launches in a silo where other senior management had no idea what was going on.

All of Apple mgmt should share the blame in this launch.

Not including the hub is beyond me to be honest.

They missed a perfect opportunity to introduce and include in the package slick neat looking universal hub for all the essential ports (something which would look like this modem or even slightly smaller), so now many will buy cheapest option possible and we will see dozens of different designs hubs plugged to rMB with all that mess sticking out and one adapter plugged into another adapter.

right. I don't even think Cook makes a single decision by himself. Jobs was probably the only person who really did that.

hey, when you can charge $79 for a hub, why not.

that's a riot. i help whenever i can, but i do call out those who proclaim absolutes, as if, because they have an issue, everyone must have the issue. i never deny that individuals have issues to contend with.

there's a lot more whining on the forums these days (i guess it goes with there being a lot more mac users).

still, flattered that you checked out my posts.

Agreed. It was the main reson I never owned a DELL.

If you need all that stuff this is not the computer for you. But if you insist on getting one anyway, Apple will sell you an adapter for all that stuff. As many others have said, the future is wireless...actually the present is wireless.

I am mentally ready for a complete move to wireless but I don't think I have up to date knowledge of how to thoroughly accomplish this... (I am coming off some pretty archaic equipment).
All I am looking to sync is iTunes - I saw you mentioned NAS, but is there a cheaper way to do this over WiFi in a relatively timely matter instead? (the last time I tried iTunes WiFi sync it was a pretty lengthy process).

No, they do understand that. They don't want you to.
I don't believe that. The Macbook is a small potato for Apple. They make a much nice margin shipping them direct to you from China then sending all over gods creation for redistribution.

When your iPhone 6S or whatever number they are on comes out in October they need the show and media reports with you in line for a week for the phone. Its still there only cash cow and investors already don't think they can sustain last quarters iPhone numbers being you've all stepped up to the big screen already.
