There is nothing original in the Ars review. It pretty much says the same thing as the other major reviews. Anyone surprised by anything in the Ars review really isn't paying attention.

Anandtech just posted one that is pretty good though.

It's not that important if it is original or not (although arstechnica's review is from 9th of April, so it is prior to anandtech's, which is also a great read). The whole point is that negative comments about rMB is not coming from whiners or trolls , as mentioned in some threads in MR, but also from very respective reviewing sites. It is clearly stated in this review that the features that are missing from this latest mac, do not fall in the "pro" category, but in the ultrabook category as well.

Regardless, I'm sure that anyone that follows apple blindly will not read either of these reviews.

So in your opinion, someone willing to sacrifice a couple things that a few people would like in order to have a thin and light ultrabook that clearly has mass appeal, that would make them a blind follower?

Personally reviews are great ... but if one is educated and understands the specs on something, reviews are irrelevant.

You're really just wasting space here by saying "look at the bad stuff they say about it" ... if it's so bad, why is there a 4-6 week timeframe for delivery? If it's so bad, why are so many people saying how great it is? Clearly there's a market, and it's not you. So go somewhere else to talk down about it.

Lighten up, Francis.

Lighten up, Francis.

I just don't get the negativity from those who clearly aren't in the demographic of this product. I don't go into the Honda Motorcycle forums and call people out for being Honda Sheep and buying a sub-par form of transportation. Two wheels? No protection from the elements? Who would ever want to buy one of those. Clearly there's a huge market who do, and it's not me. Clearly there's a huge market for Apple's latest Macbook, and maybe it's not him, but it just seems to demonstrate insecurities when someone attacks a product just because it's not catered to their needs (or what they think their needs are).

So help me God, I going to pull this thread over to the side of the road right now! I mean it!!! And no, I don't care who started it!
:D

Welcome to the world of the Internet, where people can hide behind a machine and spew whatever they wish without much repercussion.

I completely agree with you. There are too many trolls everywhere these days, and it's worse when it comes to Apple products.

I don't care for the iWatch at all. It's one of Apple's largest product launches ever and I could care two cents. Do you know how many times I've visited the iWatch message board here? Zero. Why? Because it doesn't impact me.

Unfortunately, there are many out there who feel the need to make themselves feel important by posting their personal opinions. And, if you don't agree then you're wrong. I find it funny people are complaining about a product (rMB) that does not suit their specific needs. At this time Apple has more than enough MacBook models to suit every user type. Don't like what they launch? Don't buy it. Don't read about it. Don't cry about it.

It's that simple. Certain people just want to cry because they didn't get their milk and cookies.

awful rollout. just awful. but apple's worst? about on par with the g4 imacs back in 2002.

I agree with you on the Watch, and everything else you said in your statement.

I think I'm going to make my way over to the iPod touch forum and talk about how awful it is that they didn't launch it with cellular technology built in. How dare they! WORST.PRODUCT.EVER. LOL

Isn't it called freedom of expression? Just because someone has a dissenting viewpoint from the majority, should they just shut up and remain silent? If I like the new Macbook I am allowed to say so? But if I don't, I am not allowed? Is this what you are saying?

Too bad they don't have a 'just bitchin' subforum.

Most forums have "Rants and Raves" ... wonder why this one doesn't. Would allow any topic voted down to be sent to the rants\raves forum, or sent to oblivion. LOL

At first there were a couple vocal users who felt the need to trash the macbook in every forum. Several even commented about how "you'll see, nobody will show up to buy it in the store, it'll just be a quiet launch" ... and low and behold, aside from the Mac Pro, I can't think of a launch that's made buyers wait 4-6 weeks (plus the month pre-launch announcement) to get their hands on a new one.

Nope, but there's a fine line between disagreement, and bashing. My comparison to the Honda Motorcycles. I think they're a silly, useless form of transportation, but that's my opinion, and when Honda launches a new one, I don't go into their forums and trash them to those who are actually to the target market group the product was designed for.

Respectfully, I can't think of a new mac launch that didn't have macs available in the stores. Phones and the first couple of iPads, sure, but laptops? Whaddup wid dat?

One word... "Angela" ... focused on Watch, lost control of Macbook.

Problem is Macbook release was April 10, Watch release isn't until April 24. Shows where her priorities are, but also shows loss of control of supply chain or consistency on Macbook.

It is called a "forum". And it addresses to apple users for discussions and opinions (negative and positive ones). I'm a long-term Apple user, and I'm discussing a product in an Apple-related forum. See the link between those 2 ?

Again, you have - unsurprisingly for the majority of people here - missed the whole point of my post. Everyone who says a negative opinion is a "hater" or "whiner" or he "should go somewhere else" ? The outside reviews from - mostly - unbiased sites show that this opinion is a wider one that apple would want you to think. You should not charge me for that; I made the warning: it might burst some bubbles.

Regarding to the relevant part of the post, timeframes do not mean anything, as nobody knows what is the number of machines that got ready for the shelves and at what rate apple is willing to catch up with the demand (regardless if the latter is high or low). Also says nothing about the future of a machine. You should really start thinking about it. You might see that your "proofs" about the success of this machine might be a lot weaker that the proofs of the opposite. People should stop hiding behind apple sales to judge a product, unless they belong to apple shareholders or something. Windows has about 92% of the market share, so why are you still using a Mac ?

I can take any opinion seriously and with all respect, including yours, no matter how opposite to mine can be. I just stopped respecting your post by the time I've read the "So go somewhere else to talk down about it". However I do agree that we should educate ourselves. So, here's the definition of the internet forum for you. You may start from here.

Peace.

Too bad they don't have a 'just bitchin' subforum.

Or a 'bubble-land' subforum. You know... for keeping these "bad people" outside the fairy-land. :p

Your last comment is pure nonsense, and you can see that from the discussions here.

I don't think your characterization of the reviews as negative is accurate. The major reviews have done a good job of highlighting the advantages and the limitations of the new machine. There are a lot of very positive comments in these reviews, as well as accurate comments about the compromises. I can't tell what your point is in this sentence, but "pro" has become a meaningless word as applied to laptops by Apple, and if the rMB isn't an ultrabook I don't know what it is: "It is clearly stated in this review that the features that are missing from this latest mac, do not fall in the "pro" category, but in the ultrabook category as well."

The real problem is that there is a large group of measurebators who think that the only thing a computer is good for is boasting rights. They use spec sheets like porn, and bigger is always better. Most people don't need an Expedition for their daily commute; a Prius would be a better choice.

Bottom line, IMO, is that if you are the type of user who needs to have several USB/Firewire/Thunderbolt connections available, or wants to use it on the desktop as well with external keyboard, mouse, display, et cetera, you are not the target market for this product.

You are right about characterizing as "negative" the reviews, as they are not. But they do point clearly lots and lots of issues constantly ignored here.

As for the "pro" feature, it is either because I did not express it correctly, or you did not get what I was meant; The exact sentence you quoted from the review, is the main reason I tried to highlight the review itself, as I agree with it 100%. People in some threads here try to keep their bubble up by calling all these compromises as "pro" features, that therefore only a small number of people would ever need (like...erm...having two ports). And all these just because apple wants us to believe it is like this. I mean, come on...

The article states clearly that the compromises are not pro features, but the lowest ones in the market, directed to ultrabooks. The rMB fails to catch up even with those. And they also refer to chromebook that has two ports, that both can work as chargers and connectors, interchangeably. And they also suggest this seems to be very "apple-ish" idea, but not by apple.

Everyone has the right to choose whatever machine works for him/her. Absolutely. But adopting apple's marketing excuses to do it, is another story.

Anyone with common sense will see the drawbacks with the rMB's lack of ports, etc. However, that being said the machine is what it is. Apple doesn't ask customers what they want (as much as certain users would love that) and build to spec. They design and build machines based on how they see fit. That's is 100% their right. If I want to open a coffee shop and only sell decaf coffee, that is my right.

The bottom line is no one is forced to use Apple products. If a person doesn't like what Apple is marketing or making, then don't purchase their products. It is a choice by the user. And, since Apple has become popular there are people who feel "entitled" to what they want, as if Apple owes them something. Apple does not. It is a corporation worth $70 billion and they could care less if less than 1% of their users have issues with their products. It's the method the world works.

Certain people just feel too entitled and too self centered.

Certain people just feel too entitled and too self centered.

Yup, apple is a company, not a religion. Please repeat that a few times.
It is ok to discuss their products in a positive way (as I've done most of the times here), as it is equally ok to say negative things about them. You know...in a forum and all that.
