I've noticed lately that visiting MR has caused either pop-up ads to show, or a reminder from my browser that one has been blocked.

Come on.

MR is better than that. No one likes visiting sites that rudely intrude pop-ups on you, or cause you to edit you configurations to not allow pop-ups from macrumors.com (which incidently will hide any reminders of new private messages).

Considering the majority of visitors here use Safari or Firefox on OS X, chances are those ads won't be seen by them - so this obviously is not a desperate measure for more revenue. The webmaster obviously knows that.

So why the extra annoyance?

Advertisement is one thing, pop-ups are another.

I guess I just expected a little more from this site, and was a little shocked to see something that low.

have a screenshot?
i've not noticed any pop-ups ever on macrumors. and i regularly browse from work on IE not even logged in....

Have never experienced a popup on MR. Are you sure they're not from another site that you've got open in another tab?

No other tabs or browser windows open.

Happened once this morning while at home (Firefox, OS X) and once this morning at work (Firefox, Win2k).

I'll take a screenshot the next time it occurs.

(Good to see my surprise was warranted, as it doesn't seem this is the norm)

I got it this morning too. I think it was actually from the same advertizer as an ad on the main page, one IQ-Test company (but can't remember the name, sorry; maybe i've got a low IQ after all).

A.

Just got another while in Linux on firefox.

Screenshot attached.

we switched some of our ad codes around which probably caused the pop's.

it might take a day or two to fix it.

I got a pop up last night and I thought I was on crack because I thought MR was a non-pop up sight. Then I today at work I just got one.

Pop ups are certainly happening.
