Minimum specs - 16GB of RAM, except on Mac, where by a miracle 8GB is equivalent. Maybe the game just has a subroutine that downloads an extra 8GB of memory.

No version for Intel MacOS? Crazy. It's like the early obsolescence of PowerPC Macs all over again. It's looking like Linux will soon be the only option for those of us still with Intel Macs wanting to stay current...

On Intel Macs games will probably run better with Bootcamp, and there will be significantly more games, than as native apps.

At some point the A17 is gonna make its way to Apple TV, and suddenly Apple TV will support stuff like hardware-accelerated raytracing. Throw in a RAM boost and maybe Apple will finally get semi-serious about gaming on Apple TV like it’s intermittently promised over the years.
I like your optimism

Played this on PS5. Liked it. Especially as a “play with morning coffee while others sleep” kind of a game. The atmosphere of the game is really cool.

Ahmamies recommends.

I'm interested, but $29 for a year old game that's kind of a curiosity...?

Steam isn't perfect but it has a lot of interesting finds and deals. It has community, depth, and incentive for developers to cater to the community.

Mac App Store... feels like they strong armed a couple of devs to making a Mac release. No discounts, no community, no vibe. Apple's gotta do better here.

Now that they have it running on M-series processors, it shouldn't really require a "port" to bring it to A-series. Should just need a proper compiling in Xcode.
Yeah except that the outdated Apple TV processor can't handle it.

I've been trying to play Fantasian on the Apple TV... and it's almost impossible. The frame rate drops to single digits on a regular basis. They either need to start updating this device, or give devs better tools to scale down.

It's kind of embarrassing where they are with the AppleTV.

Bought it from Mac App Store yesterday, and tried it on my M1 MacBook Air, here's my first impression - from the old Stray thread - on how well it runs:

[It runs] Very well.

Tried it for a little while, an hour or so. Seems fun, a bit troublesome to figure out all movements with just the Mac keyboard (don't have a controller).

A couple of glitches. Nothing serious.

First time ever my Air has gotten warm to the touch. Not scolding hot, but definitively warmer than it has ever been, by a clear margin.

What generation AppleTV do you have? The 2022 4K-v3 has the A15 cpu and its pretty good, depends on the game of corse. The A15 is newer than M1, I know it’s designed for mobile but is it that much worse in graphics performance?

Another game that also got Apple Silicon debut last month was Snowrunner, it also has been on Steam since day one, and just the Apple Silicon version dropped at the same time on Steam and App Store just like Stray. The difference is that they manage to get the same launch discount rate on the two platforms (I think 50%), but you still have to pay more on App Store since the starting price is higher than on Steam.

I think there is a lot of business math going on in regards to discounting on platforms, and Steam clearly has advantage due to the shear player base and a general impression of being the go-to place for games. With Apple I guess unless they directly subsidize the devs, other wise discounting too much on App Store will be a chicken and egg problem, because for the devs the App Store is guranteed to get less sales thus less revenue in the first place and now discounting your price will further decrease that.

For anyone interested, I bought mine on Steam when it was discounted last month. Just now ran it on my base 16" M3 Max MBP, had every graphic settings to HIGH and disabling motion blur (this causes lag). Then with the "scaling solution", the default "built-in" is using Unreal Engine's TSR upscaler, you should change it to MetalFX since this will run much better, I am using the 16" screen so native resolution and set scaling at 50% factor (conversely it means x2 upscaling).

The game is smooth and looks gorgeous. FPS is always 70 or more, most times at 90-100. Can't even tell anything is upscaled it just looks native res. Later on I can try to plug the MBP to an LG OLED to see how it looks there.

The game is lovely, both graphically and of course the theme. The price is alright especially if you get it through steam, with discount it is now just half of what App Store charges you.

Why steam will always do better, no apple tax
