It’s pretty obvious where you get ROMs from. Are you guys seriously sooo scared cmon. I bet some of you have been smoking stuff illegally without panicking that old lady next door is an undercover cop. Seriously clicking a link using vpn or proxy in Albania is infinitely easier than smuggling smelly goodies in your backpack in school…

How do you even get through life if that seems scary or too hard?
have you seen what happened when game hardware owners go after sites? it has happened before.

there was a whole group worried when torrents took off for downloading and sharing P2P files... and some serious legal threats made. the company only lost out due to some dubious decisions they had also made about rights clearance ;)

Love this emulator! So glad to see it on iPad. And I appreciate the syncing service. I hope they bring it to AppleTV as well, though I’m glad they do dual-screen AirPlay in the meantime.

Never played Conker’s Bad Fur Day back in the day, but now I get to. There are some rendering glitches with this one (another emulator looks fine but has audio glitches with the game). But hopefully whatever is causing the issue, it gets patched. SM64 looks just fine.

Blame Apple, they don’t allow putting an app on a marketplace and also put it in the App Store.
They do, but it with the business terms it's not viable for a popular free app due to the CTF, and author stated they did not want to charge on the app store.

Thanks to the EU. Without them, there would be no emulator on iOS in the USA.

In case anyone asks why:
Because Apple had to install the opening for the EU anyway and could not explain why this change should be impossible in the rest of the world.
Compare this with the General Data Protection Regulation and Facebook's lamentations a few years ago.

So face it:
Even if you don't live in the EU, you benefit from regulations for more competition and user freedom.
You are welcome, but... you know the irony of this? Delta for iPad is NOT available for EU users 🤬

Alt Store (and any other alt stores) is not available for iPadOS. Only for iOS.

And, as far as I understand, Delta can't be released on EU App Store. So the result is that EU iPad users can't have Delta.

here you can find the whole explaination https://mastodon.social/@imkh/112773496009665068

And what would be the reason for Apple's sudden change of mind/policy? Give us just one that is plausible.
Here's one possibility. There was a change in policy within Apple's approach to the App Store. It could be there is someone (or multiple people) who wants emulators in the App Store and this person could have more say over the direction the App Store is going.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it plausible? Also yes. Is it true? I have no idea.

In any case, I didn’t say it was not because of the EU (I'm using the double negative on purpose), I was simply pointing out that giving credit to the EU might not be correct. Just like saying it wasn’t because of the EU might not be correct.

It also works on my Vision Pro thanks to iPad compatibility.

As I recall there was an active community that continued developing Super Mario 1, 2 & 3 NES games, at least til a few years ago, with a seemingly infinite expanse of user-created levels and competitions between them. I wish i had that saved. Those lightweight 8bit games would really fly on an ipad, if you could get a usb-c nes controller.

Not holistically. Nintendo offers a comparatively small, curated selection of games from some of the these systems.

I wish… They currently offer a very limited selection.
That's the choice of the content owner to decide when to sell to maximize sales, Disney doesn't have their videos for sale all the time, they keep them in the " Disney vault" and puts them for sale when there is pent up demand. That doesn't give you the right to steal when you want.

Nonsense. There's no EU regulator saying "AaPle muST leT peoplE downLod EmulaTORs'.

Retro emulators existed in the App Store years ago. They were pulled because of unclear legality and security, both issues that still exist.

When this stuff is niche companies turn a blind eye. Making these emulators more popular is just going to get someone arrested. Now Nintendo will force a lot of sites to hand over the logs.

Don't think VPN protects you either. Trackers go around that stuff all the time. If you're downloading ROMS today you going to be F'd unless you live in Siberia.

Most of those ROM sites use click bait links and full of malware too. Good luck with them.
Apple changed their policies recently which coincided too closely with EU regulations. If you do not see the indirect connection, you are not looking.

I don't really care so much for games. But it's fun to see that an old-school game emulator might become the most significant driver for the popularity of alternative app stores on iOS 😂.

I also can't really blame the developers for going this route. They probably just hate dealing with Apple's app review, like every developer who pushes the boundaries of Apple's rules.
This emulator is available in the App Store. How does this help the popularity of alternative app stores?

That’s some revisionist history right there. Retro emulators were not allowed until a few months back. Apple allowed them worldwide as a way of getting ahead of more regulation from other political entities. They knew from the days of jailbreaking that if Apple don’t provide the community finds a way.

The only ‘emulator’ provided before iGBA4iOS came out was SCUMMvm which is not strictly an emulator but rather a way of playing classic DOS adventure games you can still buy from the likes of Good Old Games.

They’ve existed on 3rd party repositories for a long time but never officially on the App Store.

Actually, your version is the "revisionist". Mame4iOS, Active-GS/FTA (not locked down), iDOS, and others were available in The App Store years ago. I've had them all.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Just because there is a temporal ordering of events does not mean the first caused the second.

There are at least two possibilities. 1. You are correct and this is because of EU regulations. 2. Apple’s allowing emulators again into the App Store is not tied to EU regulations.

Which one is correct? I don’t know. I don’t work for Apple. We just cannot assume that some action is caused by some factor without clear evidence. All I’m doing is pointing out there might be other explanations. Or, it’s because of the EU.
It's literally the EU regulations 🙄
