You would have thought that the suits at Reddit saw the backlash and **** that came after Elon killed off all 3rd party apps on twitter....

Guess they have the same kind of kink for the backlash that Elon got

I deleted my Reddit account and explained why when it asked. Will not be asking for Apollo sub $ back.

Oh well, I've been wanting to focus my limited time on more worthwhile ventures anyway. Can't imagine anyone wanting to use the default app... This is what drove me to Apollo. Great app.

Hope Selig finds a new job!

Deleted my Reddit account a few months ago, and I have not missed it. Got back a lot of my personal time. I did pay for a lifetime subscription to Apollo, but I deleted my Reddit account first!

I never used Apollo but previous articles had the creator arguing the "indie developer" can't compete. If you are as large as Apollo... I'm not sure you would still be considered "small" and can still play that card. The product just rode on the back of a larger company for free and didn't bother to really monetize (I assume) to be able to support itself.

The first-party app has always worked well for me.
Apollo is literally run and designed by one person (he might [correction: does] have a second person who helps with the server, but that's it)

Nice. lol - glad to see I am not alone.

I also got https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6443919232 - his app here too lol.

I deleted my account a few days ago and the free time is amazing, lol.

File for a refund from iTunes. Just renewed my 9.99 yearly fee but I am not losing anymore money on Apps shutting down. Love Apollo but not sure how I feel about this. No notification to current subscribers about this. I get to read it here.

This is super unfortunate news, but I don't believe people will stop using Reddit all together. I love Apollo, but I'm certainly not going to give up Reddit over this.

Anybody who says they will should authentically ask themself, "Am I never going to log in again? Am I never going to READ the result of a Google search if I see it comes from Reddit?"
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’ll go from using Reddit throughout the day to using it sporadically on my desktop.

If a significant enough number of people do what I believe I will be doing, then the platform with thin out more and more, resulting in fewer and fewer results from Reddit appearing on Google searches – even further reducing the validity of the platform.

This has happened before, and will happen again. A new platform will fill the gap, as people move-on from Reddit.

I was there, Gandalf, I was there 3,000 years ago for Digg 2.0… I was there when nerds left in droves to find a new home…

Part of the reason Reddit is doing this is that third party apps skirt the site’s ads (promoted posts). I can fully understand Reddit having a problem with this. But expecting the Apollo developer to pay millions of dollars per month to access the site is completely unreasonable.
