The 918 is an EV, more specifically PHEV

It can run on all electric, hybrid, or only ICE depending on the mode you select.

With only 11 miles of electric range, it's a bit of a stretch to call it an EV. Some would argue anything that has an ICE engine is a hybrid, even if it has a plug.

To quality for EV rebates in the US, the vehicle must have more electric-only range than ICE-range. That's why you see the fuel capacity of the "range extender" version of the BMW i3 deliberately restricted, for example.

So, at least under the US definition, it's not an EV!

Interesting, I didn't know that. But the Volt, which is a PHEV, goes against that. The EV range is 45-50 miles, and the gas tank is like 9 gallons.

That being said, I don't think any 918 owner needs the EV rebates. MSRP was like $900k :)
