I think it is cool. Nice to see their strategy being played out. Also got native apps on the LG TVs for my children in their bedrooms. Having it directly integrated and not having to use Car Play works for me :)

PS. It may be different in Europe, my last several cars came with build-in data for a lot of the cars inbuilt services...I don't keep them longer than three years from new so never had to do a renewal.

LOVE the LARGE album artwork!!!

Apple take note and learn how to display proper artwork, Apple has lost its way with their music app.

I agree the larger album artwork is great. Not sure why Apple keeps going smaller.

So basically a 6-month bundled trial of built-in AM?

Think I’ll stick with CarPlay Spotify on my next $120k electric car.

Which electric car is that? Tesla? Oh wait, Tesla is so stupid they don’t support CarPlay or Android Auto. Even on their $100K+ vehicles. Ridiculous when a $25K Chevy supports both but Tesla can’t be bothered with either.

BTW, MR left out some of the more interesting quotes from Porsche:

“Generally speaking, we always want to be in control of that system for privacy reasons,” Zellmer said. “We don’t want our customers to be approached with marketing or advertising messages that are not relevant or adequate. We will always be very cautious about whom we grant access to our digital ecosystem in our cars. Another reason why Apple is our partner is because they have exactly the same attitude.”

Porsche doesn’t support Android Auto and the rumor was because of privacy concerns and what data gets pulled from the car. This quote by Porsche pretty much confirms it.

This is excellent news. Now Apple needs to trickle this down to cheaper cars I can afford.

At this point, any car other than a Tesla does not make sense.

FYI, the total cost of ownership of a Model 3 is lower than a Toyota Camry.

Wow, 3 years of free data on $100K car. I’m surprised. Porsche is known for nickel and diming customers. I guess they decided to hold off for 3 years.

Maybe try reading the article, which oh so sneakily refers to the Porsche Taycan EV (clue) as an “all-electric vehicle”. Not referred to, but well known, is the likely price tag of said Porsche.

As to your rant about Tesla being “stupid” for not supporting Apple Play, I think that “stupidity” might have something to do with the partnership deal they have with Spotify to provide native app in their cars.

So....Spotify in your Tesla takes car of all the other things that CarPlay and Android Auto do? Like allowing you to choose from numerous navigation systems (Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze and so on)? Or to choose from other music streaming services? Or to run other Apps in your vehicle?

Tesla is stupid, and for many other reasons besides their ridiculous choice not to support two widely available systems (CarPlay and Android Auto).

I agree, Tesla should have allowed Carplay support for media, but I understand their choosing to limit multitude of mapping services and choose Google Maps for the Autopilot. But I would be more pleased if Tesla used OpenStreetMaps instead of Google.

Toyota's new Supra has it. I suspect more cars will over the coming year.

The only reason the Toyota Supra has it, is due to the Z4 platform (BMW) and being installed with idrive 6.

Side note.....I actually prefer idrive 7 over Apple CarPlay.BUT I prefer Apple CarPlay over Ford Sync 3.

I’m currently in the market for an electric car. I have ruled out Tesla primarily because of their lack of CarPlay support. It’s that important to some of us.

I wonder what it is that is so attractive about CarPlay. Can you elaborate?

Tesla’s own native infotainment system on a 15 or 17 inch display is arguably much better than any CarPlayable vehicle.

Even if you think CarPlay is better, a Tesla has so many features that are much much more attractive than CarPlay.

Unlikely. Tesla is partnered with Spotify in Europe and it will apply soon to US customers too.

what makes you think that? Tesla has made no indication of an impending switch from Slacker, which is abysmal. I wouldn't expect Spotify on US Teslas anytime soon.

I'm sorry but that clock hump is ridiculous.

technically, it's a sport chronometer for track timing. Porsche's Sport Chrono package is a lot more than a clock.

Whatever it is, it looks ridiculous.

Porsche has never interested me even with Apple Play.

This past Sunday I saw a guy parking his Carrara in a secluded spot in a strip mall lot. As he and his wife started their long hike to the coffee shop I parked my Nissan next to it.
Bet that made you feel really superior as you walked away from your Nissan! Shows more the Porsche driver's strength of character than yours. Jealous some?

Superior? The Porsche driver shouldn’t embarrassed. I just drive a Nissan.

Oh I’m cool alright. I parked next to one of those cars.
Nah, no you aren't. You would have been cool if you'd seen someone else do it, laugh at them and walk away from your Nissan parked near the coffee shop!

But now you mention it I’ll leave a note next time. Nothing shameful about driving a Porsche. It just a car. Thanks for opening my eyes.
