As a general rule of thumb, Apple delivers products exactly when they say they will.

Some will be bumped up - due to cancelled orders, etc, but expect that number to be small.

You're getting married to the watch?? Sorry couldn't help myself there, hehe.

I don't know; my experience lately has been that Apple undersells and over delivers when it comes to shipping pre-orders. I am not in any way saying that people should expect that to be the case, particularly with a completely new product. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if at the very least we start seeing waves of May deliveries getting bumped up in line. It was happening a lot during the iPhone 6 pre-order period, but then again they screwed up that pre-order whereas the Watch pre-order was relatively very smooth.

Yep, it's certainly possible.

I find the 2 week windows strange, that to me suggests that Apple doesn't have confidence in their stock levels for the 24th.

I would love that since my birthday is on the 22nd, but the only time that has ever happened was with my iPhone 4, which I got the day before launch. I was shocked at the time that UPS or Fedex (can't remember which) had let that through.

Yeah you might be right. I can't see the retail stores stocking watches from the 24th but if they do then I will get mine from there and cancel my orders. I much prefer the retail store experience to ordering online anyway.

Same, would of much rather ordered it online and picked it up in store but that was not possible in Canada.

The Apple Store employee who did my try on appointment Saturday told me that he heard that the flagship store of every country would have stock on the 24th, not sure i believe it but i will check on the 23rd assuming none of my orders look like they will come in on the 24th.

Took the day off on the 24th and would be a real bummer if it did not come in.

Fingers crossed guys! For all of us! And congratulations for the husband to be!!

"A nice Apple Store experience" would have some semblance of fairness. If I found out that someone can saunter into an Apple Store and buy the same watch that I am waiting weeks for, I won't be have a nice experience.

As it is, I missed the early shipment date (42mm silver Sport) by SECONDS (12 minutes after store opening). So I'm pretty certain I'm higher up on the the second wave shipment dates.

I'm very cautiously optimistic my date will be moved up. I see it happening in one of three ways:

  1. Shipping dates are updated in a week or so, bumping up many orders
  2. Shipping estimates remain the same, right up until ship date. Many of us will be pleasantly surprised getting the shipment notification a few weeks earlier than anticipated
  3. Despite numerous order status updates, the dates remain the same, and we suffer when others show off their unboxing videos

No disrespect but I do not believe this to be true.
You can correct me after 24th of April.

These statements are there to explain why Apple put them in stores early but you cannot buy them.

I'm, still convinced you will be. I will apologise otherwise ;)

No disrespect taken. I hope you're right! I'd much rather go to the store on the 24th to get my 2 sport watches than wait for my June preorder to deliver.

That said - what sense does it make to take preorders, offer June ship dates, knowing there will be product available in stores in 2 weeks? Even at limited quantities, doesn't make sense. Especially with Angela's "no more lines" announcement. Because if there are devices on-hand at stores in launch day, there will be lines and a mass cancellation of online preorders. Sounds messy. For those reasons, I have to believe stores will not be carrying devices until summer. At best. And with as many potential options, I'd even suggest we might never be able to walk into a store and walk out with an Watch.

Time will tell.

Yeah, I'm really curious what my "june" delivery date will wind up being. Late June? Early June? Was I right on the cusp and will maybe get bumped into a late May delivery?

I'm not really in a rush, but since it's the wife's (that she already knows about) birthday gift, I'd like it to not be too late.

Let me tell you the story, my friend, of waking up at 2am to preorder my 6+ only to have the apps and website flake out for 30 minutes and get a shipping estimate two weeks after the release date, then see people walking out the store on launch day with my phone in hand. Fortunately it was only a week later that my wife and I ended up with our phones.

I'm not saying I expect that this time around, but it certainly is not without precedent.

I'll say it again: I truly hope you're right. I've never wanted to wrong more in my life. I'll gladly be wrong here. Seriously. Would love nothing more than to be able to stroll into one of my 5 local stores and walk out with 2 sport models a full TWO MONTHS ahead of my June ship date. That would be great.

Also curious... Why you didn't just walk in and get one yourself and cancel your pre-order?

I understand people are eager to take delivery, yet a few days one way or the other doesn't seem unreasonable. Before you know gen two will be for sale.

The only people who know the answer to OP's question work at Apple. All we can do is guess and read between the lines.. the fact that nobody has a committed April 24th delivery date tells me that there are some supply issues behind the scenes.

Knowing Apple's history, there is a good chance that you'll get it earlier, but there's also some chance you won't get it early.

There's one kernel of truth in your statement that seems to have changed now.

If you pre-ordered in the past and you got a confirmation that you were indeed part of the first batch of shipments, you always received it at launch day.

That meant your confirmation mail also stated the launch day.

This appears to be different for the watch and it really makes me wonder what really happened behind the scenes.

Hello,

My watch is set to come to me between the 12th and the 28th of May. I am in the UK.

I was wondering if there are people here with experience in other items like the iphone 6 and/or the ipad that pre-ordered online and got them before their scheduled time.

I am asking this partially because I go on holidays at the end of May so the sooner it comes, the better.

Well thanks a lot guys!

I preordered the iPhone 6 (in the UK) but chose Apple finance to buy the phone outright. This took a little while to process so the order completed about 08:30. My shipping date was in the 2nd wave of orders (I think 7-10 days after launch). Launch date was the Friday and I got mine on the Tuesday.

Not saying you will get yours early....but you never know!

Apple has a new head of retail operations, so get used to date ranges vs. a single date.

What this ultimately means remains to be seen. Will the first wave get their watches on 4/24, or will only those who ordered at 12:01:01 get watches? Or does it matter precisely -when- the order was placed?

Like others, I'm fairly confident Apple errs on the side of conservative for shipping dates. I'd bet most/all who are in the first group gets shipments on the 24th.

No. Apple always stated that it will be available from April 10th only for preorder, but you could also try it on in stores.

That's the main difference. In the past you could preorder, but you could not look at them in stores.

The iPhones and iPads would be visible in stores at the ship date of the preorders.

I'm absolutely convinced that you will be Apple to try and buy the Apple Watch in stores after April 24th, when they are officially released.

It is in Apples own interest to provide the best Apple Store experience, including buying what you just tried out.

It's not going to be available in stores on the 24th. If u want a watch, you must order online until apple says otherwise. And i believe that apple is still trying to figure out how to inventory every different style, and how many to carry of each. This is why they are going to wait a while. They want to get past the first wave and see what's what. This is not your typical product launch. Could you imagine what a disaster it would be if it was for sale in store on the 24th...people would line up like crazy the night of the 23rd all wanting different styles sizes and bands. It would be a giant mess. at least right now.

Mine's due the 12th - 26th May, and I get wed on the 15th - so am going to be pretty much not about for this entire time - so I'm in a similar situation and I'm hoping it comes earlier.

All that said, I can see that you can change the delivery location - so if needs be I'll do that a week or so before the 12th so it goes to a family member's home...

Congrats. My watch is due the same time frame and I get married on the 9th :)
