Wait a second, with the new "stretched" iPhone being rumored, basically a 16:9 iPhone with the same vertical pixel count (in landscape mode), who's to say the iPad mini would retain the same 4:3 aspect ratio and 1024x768 ? Maybe it would also get the 16:9 treatment and be... 1366x768. Just like a 720p TV.

Makes sense to me (well, about as much sense as all the other rumors).

I think not! Apple has held separate events for introductions of different product lines for a long time. Throw in too many colors and you wind up with gray. Also, production is focusing on getting enough iPhone 5's built to meet demand. Mini iPads don't have as large a pent up demand, so production of these can take 2nd priority.

Have you ever seen them do back to back / month to month events?

Mini iPads could sell as hot as iPhones and they are all on different product production lines anyway.

Gotta love the people that STILL don't believe it is coming.

Jim Dalrymple has confirmed that there will be an October event for it, that's good enough for me.

Has apple confirmed it then? I didn't realise that a few 'Rumours' and what some 'analysts' said equates to a guaranteed October event for a guaranteed launch of a mini iPad.

Let me know when we have as many parts as the next iPhone pictured for it..

I'll probably wait for a res bumped 2nd or 3rd gen mini. I've been rocking a Galaxy 7.7 (the good, swish expensive one, not the lacklustre 7") for ages now, I find the form factor is far, far better for taking on the road than my iPad. I'd still prefer a 7" iOS toting tablet, but going from the only-bettered-by-the-iPad-3s Super Amoled Plus 1280x800 to a 1024x768...uurgh. Not a big fan of android, largely for app reasons, but a rooted 7.7 with Cyanogenmod9 is far and away the best non-iPad3 tablet in existence right now.

Great thing about my 7.7 is, it stops me from being disappointed by the possibility of "just" a taller next iPhone - I want to stay with ios but would like a 4.3-4.5" really. Given I easily take the 7.7 almost everywhere, other than when drinking or the gym, I can probably live with a 4" phone. I do wonder if it's this latter point thats part of Apples cunning plan to keep the iPhone smallish, encouraging iPad mini sales too. Hmm.

Part leaks don't always happen. They haven't been common for the iPads in general.

I'm willing to place a wager on it if you like?

Considering we've had tons of parts leak for the new iPhone and none for this, same as last years tons of 4S part leaks but no "5" parts, just pure speculation, I'd say you're right unfortunately. This is just big wishful thinking at this point.

I happen to agree with you 100%.

kindle fire 2, nexus 7, iconia a110, ainol fire... 1280*800 whereas the new iPad Mini 1024*768

hahahaha...

haha, no thanks, I'll stick to the lottery as my gambling outlet... I am pretty sure it won't happen. But as it's Apple I won't bet on it as they are the sort of company that could announce tomorrow it's putting a man on Venus or something!!

iPhone is 2 weeks away. Supposed iPad Mini is 6+weeks away, we only just now got the iPhone leaks, give it time.

They might even be reusing the iPad2,4 mainboard and chips in the mini... So there may be little in that regard to prototype and dev.

Do you genuinely see a 7.85 inch tablet as a replacement for a 3.5 inch media player?

I've seen so many statements like this but I genuinely can't get my head around the thinking here. There is no way those two devices are real alternatives to one another. One is a small tablet while the other is a pocket sized media device. One is ideally placed for reading books and magazines, web surfing and watching video while the other is the sweet spot for pocket friendly music consumption and playing Angry Birds.

I could easily envision Apple refocusing the iPod brand back to media/music. I see them creating a new 2.8" or so device with thin bezels and no home button called 'The new iPod', which will replace the iPod classic (so it will have a large capacity ssd in it - 128gb and 256gb) and remaking the iPod nano to fit with the look and feel of the new iPod. Similar to the current iPod nano, it will have iOS-like firmware, but it will be restricted to music/radio/nike app.

If I knew how to make product renders, I would show you what I think Apple should do with their iLineup. If it were me, I would actually be calling the iPad mini an iReader and in the future be integrating an e-ink screen and releasing an iPad Pro with an iOSX like OS.

to those of you thinking it will be sub 250$ with LTE are fooling yourselves. did you forgot the apple logo will be on the back? apple has not and will not ever beat the price of any competitors similar products. i sincerely doubt it will be sub 250$ with wifi. i also dont like the aspect ratio. even half and inch wider makes it not fit in a lot of pockets my nexus 7 can.

That's a very good point. My 7.7 fits in my trouser pocket in a pinch - you wouldn't want to go hiking with it in there, or start running up and down stairs, but it's a handy ability. Equally, the 7.7 and N7 fit perfectly inoak average coat pocket. 4:3 ratio otoh, very unlikely unless you wear clown pants etc.

So much for only creating the 'best products' possible. This iPad already feels so cheap and cheerful... Since when was Apple actively interested in the low end of the market?

Exactly. As I said before, the launch of this stupidly unnecessary iPad "Mini" will signify the end of Apple as we know it, unless it's simply meant as a replacement of the iPod Touch.

Moreover, it will prove that Cook is just the master of catching up, whereas SJ was the visionary that did NOT CARE about what pundits said or what lowly device makers did.

I can only hope this rumor makes no sense - because an iPad "Mini" between the Touch, the new iPhone and the iPad is as relevant as a 5" iMac.

The iPad mini will not start lower than $299. That's just wishful thinking. If it uses the same hardware as the iPad 2, it'll sell for around the same price, maybe slightly lower, than the iPad 2. It'll be up the the individuals to decide if they prefer a smaller screen or the standard screen size. And in some sense, the iPad 2 is a better device than the new iPad, and its already a great deal at $399.

I'm not quite as pessimistic about Apple's future, but it has always struck me as a strange move for them to make. They already own this market segment, and introducing a cheaper (and presumably lower yielding) product is just going to canibalise sales of the regular iPad and eat into profits.

I just don't think we're going to see this product. We've seen so few physical parts (and only secondary internals, which could easily relate to another product), yet there are constant leaks of iPhone components. Doesn't add up to me.

I cannot believe people still believe there will be an "iPad mini". Have you not put 2 and 2 together yet? Man, you are in for a big shock/surprise next week.

Can you read?

No one is saying its being launched next week. The consensus is another media event in October, as stated in the OP!!
