I just got this in an email newsletter from Dabs (a very big UK online retailer). It says:

    Full link here: http://www.dabs.com/articles/promotions/products/s-8835.html

Lucky for me I got my 28th May confirmation but this is bad news for many I suspect. Wierdly though, the Apple UK home page says nothing about this and still quotes 28th May as the ship date.

Apple will make sure their stores are stocked before stocking 3rd parties.

I imagine this is nothing to worry about. The Apple store shipping date was 28th May when pre-order launched. Since then demand has exceeded supply, and therefore later pre-orders are being shipped 7th June. Fairly common pattern, I think, with big new product launches.

By mid-June I guess we should be able to get iPads on a fairly normal shipping time, as well as retail stores having stock available. We will also know more about iPhone by that time too, which will be nice!

No. They have standees up advertising the 28th. Apple might well push back third party retailers, but only to make sure its own stores have stock on launch day. They will want the UK iPad launch before any mention of the iPhone at WWDC.

Dabs aren't telling anything new here - most people who pre-ordered after the first day have been told June 7th.

It's going to be a tense week or so for alot of people..

Me? I've got a pre-order with my name on it that still says "Deliver by 28th May", and until that formally changes I'm happy.

Yeah, I guess it's just bad news for anyone who thought they could place their pre-order now and get delivery next Friday; now they'll almost certainly have to brave an Apple store on 28th May if they want to get one on the UK launch day.

I visited the Apple UK web store at about 1:00am on the morning when pre-orders were due to go live and the store was down (presumably to add the iPad pre-order pages) so I sat on the page hitting refresh for a few minutes and as soon as it went live I was straight in with my pre-order so I've got a reasonable chance of being the very first person to have placed a UK iPad order via the web store.

Does anyone know what happens to your order if you cancel accessories? Does your ship date slip? Considering cancelling my Dock...

Apple creating a false shortage here or is demand this high truly?

I love my iPad but didn't think I would get one when announced. But once I got to play with one, I was hooked. I can imagine tens of thousands that felt the same way. All in a sudden, Apple's pre-release marketing surveys gauged the demand on the low side. Didn't make enough of them.

Good problem to have I guess. High demand grabs app developers attention. App store gold rush is on. Sucks for you Euros, for sure.

I think Apple should launch overseas based on how good and loyal an ally the particular country is to the United States. In that case, the UK is stocked right after the Colonies. ;). Just my opinion! Haha. :D

    This this this.

How many times do we have to hear that new preorders are gonna be June 7th or later, under the banner of "ALL iPads are going to be delayed", sheesh.

Why would Apple intentionally create a shortage? You can't sell products when you have a shortage, so you can't make money. And the number of dimwits who try to buy a product solely because it is in short supply is very, very low. They are far outnumbered by people like me who hate going to a shop and not getting the goods and will only buy something when there are plenty of them available.

True. Limiting supply only makes sense when you're trying to stir up demand. Do Apple really need to stir up demand even more? Of course not.

3+ months down the line, when all the clamoring early adopters have theirs, that's when Apple may, or may not, have to do something to stimulate demand.

Hmm, not necessarily. Like many others on here, I knew I had to have one when I had a go with one. I had pre-ordered it, but was considering cancelling, after my first hand experience I knew I had made the right choice. The iPad by all accounts is definitely spurred on by word of mouth and first hand experience, so as more people experience it first hand more will want it I reckon.

I've been reading reports that iPad owners are suppose to be bored with it by now but you say you love it. In all caps no less. Get with the program. You are causing a major delay in the 8htrs plans for our comeuppance.:D

Is that in reference to where I said Apple may have to stimulate demand in a few months? Note I said "may or may not". I definitely lean towards the latter. The US experience would suggest they won't have to stimulate demand, and I see no reason why the UK would be any different...however, given the high cost of entry, it's not absolutely guaranteed they'll be flying off the shelves 6 months down the line. Still early days yet, even in the US.

I ordered on May 10, 2010 at 01:45 AM GMT. My processing email breaks up the items with "Delivers by May 28" next to my iPad and "Ships by May 28" next to the case, sim and camera connector kit. I called Apple the day after placing the order and was told that I should expect to receive all the items on 28th May.

Yeah I see what you mean. It is a guessing game at this point, but I guess to Wii like shortages for a good while yet!

Just think, this time next week all the panic will be "Mine hasn't shipped yet!".

    Yeah, not long now, woo!

Having never actually seen one in the flesh, I'll be like a kid at Xmas when it finally arrives.
