Any manufacturer can just put two cameras side by side, two large dots next to each other. However that is lazy and unthoughtful design. How many cut out holes does the back of an iPhone need? It's unattractive, looks unresolved. Apple should think harder on this one. Maybe encase both cameras in a single rounded rectangle (pill shape) cut out with the appropriate dark masking in between. The technology should also be extended to all phone sizes including 4 inch.

Starting to wonder myself if the 7 will be a tempting upgrade from my 6. I'm perfectly fine with the 6 but I've always upgraded every other year. This would be the first time ever skipping. Maybe that is a sign of the times for iPhone and why sales are drooping --- the thrill is gone after they upped the standard size and made an XL model.

Another huge factor for me is this would be the first iPhone, except the original, I'd have to pay full boat. But unlike the original iPhone, it won't come with an unlimited data plan since ATT is K.O.ing us legacy unlimited plan holders to the curb.
And then there is the annoyance of figuring out which carrier to switch to.

So yes, Apple needs something than a slightly different case than the 6/6s in 7 to motivate me. Maybe if it was a slim BUT ruggedized case and screen. Maybe. The plus/pro looks interesting but too awkward to run with so that is a non-starter for me.

Upgraded from a 4S to a 6 plus a few months ago, but was still able to keep my ATT unlimited plans, paying the subsidized price. Need to check when ATT will end that.
Waited to upgrade until Apple finally offered 128GB.
As for size, a personal preference. Tried it first time when the 6 came out and thought it was way too big.
With my eyesight weakening I took the plunge and like the 6 plus now a lot.
Awkward to put into pants pockets, but like everything in life: Figure it out and adjust.

Besides faster processor, more memory , better lenses I would like to see the possibility to use the iPhone as a mini projector. With dual lenses, maybe one can be a projector lens.

I don't think it makes a difference. When I tilt my head to the side, my eyes still work together.

Your photos are what I'm talking about. When I hold my head level I see in wide/standard format, when I turn my head I see in portrait mode. If the lenses are mounted side by side, I wonder how that affects the format of the photo. It will rotate to match the screen, I get that but I'm asking if it means each lens will be used one at a time. Maybe that makes sense.

Well - this Iphone 7 is looking less appealing by the minute.

A10
Dual camera (I7 plus only)
No headjack
RAM (same 2G)
LTE/WI chip (same)
Casing (removing of antenna lines)
Touch ID (same)
3d Touch (same)
Thinner (who is asking for this?)

What else?

Apple removes the ability for them or anyone else to directly load software onto your phone without your direct authentication - i.e. makes it impossible for the govt to install its "clipper chip" back door onto your phone via an unauthorized software update (that currently could occur). That'll sell some handsets.

The combination of ugly antenna bands and protruding camera. Hopefully this is fake.

Why do they keep referring to "optical zoom" capabilities of a dual camera design?

It's not optical zoom. It's digital zoom.

Oh please no...the 3D fad really needs to die out, it's a pointless technology.
I agree with you on that. Partially because 3D glasses don’t fit well over my glasses. I didn’t mean to sound like I wanted 3D cameras when I made that post. I just thought it would be a neat concept, just not so great in actual use.

When you hold the phone vertically, you are taking a portrait photo (at least in the current iPhone), and when you hold your phone horizontally, you take a landscape photo.

OO = []

O = [ ]

So it doesn't seem that the orientation of the lens pair has much to do with the photo orientation.

I think what happens is that the two lenses each take a photo, and they are averaged together to produce the final image. At the same time, the subtle differences between the two images are used to calculate how far away various parts of the photo are, so that filter effects can be applied only to things that are far away (such as blurring the background). It should be able to calculate the distances just as well with the lenses above and below as it does when they are side by side.

It's a bit of both actually, both ends being the most "optical".
But considering how all digital cameras images are massively manipulated digitally by DSPs in dozens of ways already (even on DSLR), I think we're just quibbling on the details.

Are you joking when you say you don't see? It seems pretty obvious to me.

It's like anything else. If there are two models of the same product, one has to differentiate from the other. Sure, the screen size and resolution is enough- but not for $100. Apple has to add more features to the more expensive phone, or drop the price. And Apple isn't going to drop the price.

Not to be a prickly pear, but could they have not made the housing smaller size around the lenses? Its still looks like the size of a postage stamp.

I'd rather just have a bigger sensor and a camera bump, the Nokia 1020 proves you can make a camera bump sexy and premium.

I don't see it like that. The screen size isn't a feature to differentiate the two and as such different sized iPhones should be on par. If I take it to the extreme and said that the iPhone 7 inch was the flagship then you might get where I am coming from - there would be a lot of unhappy people out there.

No Antenna bands on the rear ? :p
It will also be thinner !!! ;)

galaxy S5 lost the SDmicro slot with the S6, sales dropped enough, that they added it back in with the S7
Im an andriod fan, switching to the iphone this summer or fall, not willingly, but in an effort to better support
my customer base, which is mostly iphone users- future tech obviously sees "wires" as old school, the removal
of the 3.5 jack shows that apple is mindset in advancing in the all "wireless" direction- though blue tooth needs to become much more energy efficient as well as battery life/longevity- with iphones becoming much thinner, id hope
the internal componants are much more enrgy.efficient too-
