delivery confirmation is only 70 cents extra plus they always ask you if you need it, and on such an valuable item its suprising OP didn't ship with it

I just got off the phone with Apple, the gentleman that I spoke with was very polite. He did look up the serial number for me but informed me that it had not been registered. He also informed me that if I could give him the person's name (which I have since they paid for it with PayPal) that he could tell me if they are the person who it's registered with, once it becomes registered. So that's VERY helpful, because if the buyer is scamming me, I may be able to verify it.

I'm a little surprised the Apple rep gave you so much information. Anyway, hopefully the guy isn't scamming you and it just hasn't been delivered yet. Priority Mail does say 3-5 BUSINESS days, but I've had stuff shipped Priority that took significantly longer to arrive. One package fell between the seats in a USPS truck for a week before anyone noticed (presumably because I had called USPS customer service and inquired as to the status of the package).

Also, I believe PayPal automatically applies a tracking number when you purchase a Priority Mail label from them. Not sure if OP did this or just went straight to a post office.

I don't think that's correct. I had this exact same thing happen to me a few months ago with a cheap $20 printer that I had from a few years back. eBay refunded the money to the buyer but since I had already transferred the funds to my bank account eBay sent me daily notices saying that if I didn't pay them the money within 1 week they would send it to a collection agency.

At least it buys the OP some time...

I do nt understand how you donthave a tracking number. If you sent it priority mail isn't that tracking number on your receipt or the green tag attached to the label you filled out? And if you used ebay's print shipping label it should automatically produces tracking number. I'm sorry I just don't understand.

No, tracking numbers aren't included with Priority Mail if you purchase the postage at the Post Office. Many people I've spoken with seem to think they are, but they aren't. It's an extra charge. Again, I'm aware of the mistake I made.

I know. I made a mistake, I'm pretty sure I mentioned that already several times.

The Post Office was closed for the day, except for the Automated Postage Machine, which is open 24/7. The buyer was being impatient and sent me an email requesting it be sent out on the 14th, even though the auction ended on the 13th. So me, being naive, thought it would be fine to just send it.

Again, it is possible that it was stolen, or simply hasn't been delivered yet. In either of those cases Delivery Confirmation wouldn't have made a difference.

the question is where did you get the ipad from ? The number may be on you ticket reciept. There is also the issue just because he says it has not been activated that does not mean he is not holding it in his hand. He may return it or resell it ? So yeah get the number and then what ?

Umm, actually if you had Delivery Confirmation, this would prove whether or not it was actually delivered. I fail to see how Delivery Confirmation wouldn't have made a difference if it hasn't been delivered yet.

This thread is all kind of bad decisions.

OP your situation is not good. Tracking is the one key thing that paypal checks for. If you can't even provide a number you are immediately screwed. if you shipped with USPS your especially screwed because you don't even have a tracking number for them to look the package up.

2nd - what kind of feedback does this buyer have? Do a contact lookup and call the individual directly. Try to figure out what kind of person this is your dealing with. When you call the buyer act like you got a tracking number and just need to find it on a receipt. If need be send a random envelope to this address and get a signature confirmation on it. He will have no idea what it is but he will of signed for it. Give that tracking number to paypal and you may be able to win the case. Assuming you think your being defrauded.

No other ideas right now.

I really hate to see good people get screwed over, but sounds like you're SOL here. Paypal will 100% side with the buyer. Sucks that you couldn't pony up the extra 77 cents for delivery confirmation.

In a thread of bad decisions, yours gets the top prize.

Oh one more thing where did you send it to and from where postoffice has been slow last year and more I live in a Military Base and mail seems to be later here before I lived in MI and up there mail took forever

I've sold quite a few of my used electronics, thru eBay, Apple included, and if you print your shipping label through paypal, the Delivery confirmation IS FREE, and Signature Confirmation is a cheap 1.75-2.00 dollars, ALWAYS, always needed for expensive items to be covered under paypal/ebay seller protections.

I live near LA, sent it to San Francisco.

Yes, I'm aware of that now. I haven't sold anything on eBay for awhile and wasn't aware of most of the changes eBay and Paypal have made over the past few years.

So I'm guessing you got the iPad on release day since it's only been out a little over a week. Did your wife lose her job the very next day or did you buy it for the sole purpose of selling it for a $100-$200 profit on eBay?

Ah I see, well I'm sorry for your ordeal, but FYI, the free tracking/delivery conf. has been going on at least for the last 3-4 years I'm fairly sure.

Yes, we got it on release day, and we bought it with the sole purpose of selling it for some extra money. I would love to keep it, but times are tough, you gotta do what you gotta do!

Who cares?

Anyway, yeah, you are screwed. Always get delivery confirmation as a method to prove shipping to PayPal/anyone else who will send you a claim.

You can do it!

OK, so it is possible to get the registration from Apple, since I have gotten it twice before by accident. It will require some social engineering a quick tongue, and some luck. You need to call into applecare support and pretend you're filing an warranty issue for your ipad. If the ipad is registered they would not need all of your info and I have had the rep. give me the registration info for the previous owner of two different machines before. One time it was just a name, but the last time this happened the guy found it necessary to read me the previous owners full address and phone number even after I said that it was not me.

So in the end, this info is accessible, it is just a matter of figuring out how to get the phone rep to divulge it.

So sorry to hear that. Hopefully it's tied up at the post office and they get it soon. I'm almost positive that paypal will refund their money if you can't prove that you sent it. What was the persons feedback rating? Was the address a paypal confirmed address?

I haven't sold anything on eBay in about 4 years. I'm not saying that excuses my ignorance. I should have waited and shipped it out the next day with signature confirmation and insurance either way.
