For the OP

I wouldn't appreciate being called a liar. No high horse here. If it looks like a rat, and smells like a rat, well then by golly, it is a rat. Why don't you spend your time more wisely. Instead of posting on message boards, post your resume, apply for jobs. Stop lying. We get your username is different. So post it anyways. Without any link, I have ZERO reason to believe your BS.

And I'm not sensitive one bit about it being an iPad 2. I personally have resold six of them. This guy just sounds full of sh**

why the hell would someone make this up? people need to chill with the "pics or it didnt happen" crap. take off your tinfoil hat and relax.

OH MY...

First let me say I am a long time lurker, first time poster. I have been following this thread since yesterday and felt compelled to register after some of the recent remarks.

This is a very poorly moderated forum. I run a large forum about Zoids (Japanese model kits) and I would never allow my members to treat another member the way some of you have treated the OP here.

This guy admitted he'd made a mistake time after time, and was pretty damn humble about it to. I'm amazed by the number of people who felt the need to post and throw in their 2 cents chastising the guy and telling him what he did wrong when he obviously knew already. You're not helping.

Beyond that, I can't even believe that people are calling him names, accusing him of lying, and saying he deserved to get scammed (though I'm not convinced it is a scam). Talk about kicking someone when they're down. I'm sure all of you throwing stones have never made a mistake in life before eh?

I'm glad the members of my forum know how to behave better than this. If there is a Mod out there I'd recommend locking this thread. The OP had his questions answered, it's time for everyone to move on.

This thread is all kind of bad decisions.

If need be send a random envelope to this address and get a signature confirmation on it. He will have no idea what it is but he will of signed for it. Give that tracking number to paypal and you may be able to win the case. Assuming you think your being defrauded.

No other ideas right now.

This! I wonder if this works! I might use this trick in future in case got scammed by someone

Good post.

I'm not particularly surprised, though. Other Apple fans tend to act like dicks all the time.

very nice first post ... I believe the OP and do feel bad for him and his wife.
and I agree with you ... some of the immature comments on this thread should not be tolerated.

I feel bad for the op. This sounds like a mistake my dad would make. (No offense - my dad is brilliant, but I can see him rushing under pressure and trusting that he wouldn't get scammed)
How long ago did you mail the item anyway? Hopefully it's just caught in the mail and he drops the case when it arrives. Fingers crossed it works out for you.

i once sold some shoes on ebay. sent it by priority with delivery confirmation, not signature. delivery confirmation showed that the shoes were delivered. buyer filed a complaint with paypal and i actually won. but she then filed a dispute with her credit card which they sided with her. her cc took back the money and my account ended up negative. paypal said there was nothing i could do since it was a chargeback.

And to those suggesting he file a police report-- let me assure you the LAPD have MUCH more important things to be spending their time on than a case of an eBay seller forgetting to get signature confirmation. As far as I'm concerned, if you forget signature confirmation, you deserve to get scammed.

The purpose of the police report is because it would be required in order to file a possible claim with insurance or credit card companies.

EDIT: I ASSUMED THIS WAS AN INTERNATIONAL PROBLEM BUT IF IT IS NOT IGNORE WHAT I SAID AS CLEARLY IT IS NOT RELEVANT

LOOK!

Patience is what is needed here.

Priority International is NOT tracked as you know.

It also can take TWO WEEKS or LONGER to reach the UK.

It seems to me what has happened here is that you have an impatient ebay buyer who wanted the ipad ASAP and a week has passed and he is worried that he won't get his iPad 2.

He obviously figures that the safest option is to open a dispute and get his money back.

It may have been lost in the post. Someone might have stolen it.

But more likely it is working its way through the system and it will eventually arrive with the buyer...

What can you do?

I would suggest that you simply inform him it may take 3 weeks to arrive but it will arrive eventually *he will also get a letter from customs if you declared the value correctly before it can be delivered so he has to pay charges*

I doubt he will like that answer and I doubt you will either but that is all you can do...

I would suggest you just make this delay clear and also to paypal/ebay and they should allow you time to see if it reached him.

Personally I doubt it will arrive before the end of next week in the UK.

Good people make stupid mistakes, he will never do it again but really hope it works out in his favor.

Good post. I had always heard about how great the community of Apple users was, but from reading posts in macrumors, it seems like it's full of the same rudeness that I see in windows forums.

Sorry, OP. Next time, protect yourself better.

Not sure what you can do about this time. Selling things on eBay has become such a pain these days.

I never buy or sell anything on eBay apart for inexpensive stuff (<$50). Usually when I want to make a quick buck, I just sell locally on Craigslist and take only cash. eBay is just way too much hassle.

Also:
It is unethical to purchase a product with the sole intention to sale it to another for a profit with this particular product.
lol. No.

lmao i guess apple and every single other licensed (or unlicensed) reseller better close up shop! how the world works my friend :)

That's absurd. I don't want people harassing me or trying to get involved and considering some of the ridiculous negative responses I've already received on here that seems likely to me. That's private information that I'm choosing not to share. Why is that so hard to understand?

Like I already said, my eBay username doesn't match this username, so it wouldn't prove anything even if I did post it.

I think it's really awful the way some users on here are behaving. I made a stupid mistake that's going to end up costing me over $700 and while most people on here have been pretty supportive I think it's really messed up to accuse me of lying or call me names. Get off your high horse. We've all made mistakes and I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate some douche calling you a liar while you were already going through a hard time.

you have to understand but there are a lot of immature people who post these fake "I was scammed" threads to get attention. The fact that you wont post a screen shot of the listing with your personal info blurred out is more red meat for the cynics.

Further, someone tech literate enough to be a member on MR is often likely to be a competent shipper when it comes to valuable electronics.

So a lot of times when things dont add up, the benefit of the doubt is not often given here.

Hence, "pics or it didnt happen"

I have fairly good instincts and can usually sniff out any deception pretty quick. Call me judgmental but I'm usually spot on and can smell something fishy a mile away.

I don't know why but this whole thread has smelled of fish. I don't know why the OP continues this thread....but his responses, choice of details or lack thereof has made me suspicious.

Again....don't know why I feel this way. It's just a hunch.

If I'm wrong, I'm going to hell. But call me a judgmental prick!!

It is unethical to purchase a product with the sole intention to sale it to another for a profit with this particular product.

You are extremely naive. Everyday businesses purchase products, mark them up and sell same at a profit.

Frankly, I encourage everyone that purchases an iPad 2 to sell it at once and book a profit. If you purchase an item @ $700 and can immediately sell it for $1200 then you are a fool and a patsy if you do not sell the item. In fact if you don't sell it then economically you just paid $1200.00 for the item since your threw away a $500 profit. You should do this over and over again ad infinitum until supply and demand is in balance at which point you would keep the last iPad 2 purchased.

You are only responsible for yourself and should always strive to accrue maximum dollars, this is the basic a axiom of capitalism.

Charge whatever the market will bear for your iPad 2's, make the buyer scream with pain until the blood slowly drips from their lips as the pay through the nose for the privilege of owning an iPad 2 without a wait.

I've sold 4 iPads two 64 gig AT&T's and two wi-fi's. I let other people pay for my iPad 2 and still made some profit.:D

If some fool wants to pay up the ass for a iPad let them.

Good news!

On Friday eBay did decide in favor of the buyer as I hadn't shipped the iPad 2 with a tracking number. So, I immediately called eBay, and spoke with a very nice woman there in their claims department. I very politely explained my concerns that:

- the buyer was a scammer
- they hadn't responded to most of my emails
- didn't seem at all interested in recovering the iPad 2
- only seemed interested in the refund
- made suspicious and contradictory statements
- they had purchased over 20 iPad 2's in 3 weeks, yet re-sold none of them on eBay
- that the iPad 2 I sold them had been registered, proving I had actually shipped it

I asked her to look at the number of cases the buyer had opened claiming the item had never been received. I also pointed her to this thread (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1124392/) to show her that at least one other person has had the exact same problem with this buyer. She mentioned that she agreed with what I was saying, agreed that the buyer had made some really suspicious and questionable decisions, and asked me if I would mind holding for a few minutes while she looked into the case further.

After only 5 minutes of waiting she came back on the line and informed me that eBay had decided to overturn the decision, refund my money back to me, and suspend the buyer's account due to bad behavior. Today I logged on and saw that the buyer is now no longer a registered member of eBay:

http://myworld.ebay.com/yenta888/

I'm glad I asked her to look at the number of other cases the buyer had opened because it became clear once she came back on the line that this was a serious problem. I'm really glad it all worked out in the end. And next time I'll make sure I take the proper steps to protect myself.

Lastly, for all of the people asking me to post a link to the auction and getting upset when I refused. The images in the auction are linked to my portfolio website, which includes my home address and cell phone number. So, I'm sure you can understand me not wanting anyone on here to have my personal information. Maybe I didn't make that clear before, but hopefully now you'll understand.
