I have heard of so many EBay/Paypal scams going around that it is rather scary

The "I never got my product" routine is the most common. I use UPS Ground for my sales and plan on using the tracking as my defense

Also there is another scam dealing with echecks & paypal though I have not seen that too much

I put my iPad1 on Craigslist and had several people from UAE and Nigeria wanting it for "any price"

I guess it is a good way to find out how to do this on EBAY. He just got two pages of information on the best ways to cover your tracks.

Hey dude, sorry to hear about the iPad 2. That's all I can really say, I don't have much advice for you, but I just feel bad that you may of been scammed (unless the guy really didn't get it) Karma will be on your side from now on :) xx

you might be able to report it stolen with the police and apple. if the person takes it into apple for any reason, they'll see that serial number was reported. this might take a while though.

People are funny here with this pics or it didn't happen stuff.

Maybe just post a link to the original ebay listing to calm the doubters :)

That wouldn't prove anything as my eBay username and username on this forum are completely different.

I'd rather not be posting a lot of personal information about myself on here as just from this thread alone I've seen how quick people are to be judgmental and spiteful.

If people don't believe me that's their choice. I have no reason to lie and I already got the information that I wanted so as far as I'm concerned this thread has served it's purpose.

There's been some good advice given, a lot of which I've followed up on. Thanks everyone for your assistance.

Dude's lying. Refuses to post the ebay transaction? Really? All he's trying to do is figure a foolproof way to actually scam someone, with you supplying ideas. I agree with all that thought this was fishy.

That's absurd. I don't want people harassing me or trying to get involved and considering some of the ridiculous negative responses I've already received on here that seems likely to me. That's private information that I'm choosing not to share. Why is that so hard to understand?

Like I already said, my eBay username doesn't match this username, so it wouldn't prove anything even if I did post it.

I think it's really awful the way some users on here are behaving. I made a stupid mistake that's going to end up costing me over $700 and while most people on here have been pretty supportive I think it's really messed up to accuse me of lying or call me names. Get off your high horse. We've all made mistakes and I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate some douche calling you a liar while you were already going through a hard time.

I wouldn't appreciate being called a liar. No high horse here. If it looks like a rat, and smells like a rat, well then by golly, it is a rat. Why don't you spend your time more wisely. Instead of posting on message boards, post your resume, apply for jobs. Stop lying. We get your username is different. So post it anyways. Without any link, I have ZERO reason to believe your BS.

And I'm not sensitive one bit about it being an iPad 2. I personally have resold six of them. This guy just sounds full of sh**

Not to pick on your situation, but if you say that this happened to you before on a $20 item, why did you not learn your lesson on a $700+ item?

And what would posting the auction prove? You would have no way to verify that it was my auction. The level of stupidity here is simply astounding.

I was talking to my wife about this last night and it actually occurred to me that I had forgotten a minor detail that would help explain this situation a lot better. I mentioned before that I hadn't sold anything on eBay in years. Well, to go back on that, my wife actually sold a LOT of things under my eBay user ID a few months ago and she printed all of the postage online. Me, being oldschool, wasn't even aware that you could do that. I also noticed that all of her Priority Mail packages came with a tracking number at no charge. So I assumed that was a new feature they'd added to Priority Mail, and when I was at the post office to ship the iPad 2 I actually thought I would get a tracking number, and was surprised when I didn't. I hope that clears a few things up.

I've already stated that I do not wish to give out any personal information. If I post the auction you can get my user ID. If you get my user ID you can get my email address and my phone number. I don't want someone like you having that information to do with as you please, but I guess you're too busy being a smug prick to understand that.

ohhhhkay, it's time to end this. now.

You need to stay off of eBay until your wife can teach you the basics. eBay has evolved and changed its policies, terms, methods and privacy settings dramatically since the last time you sold, and it's painfully obvious. First of all, no one can attain your email or phone number just from your seller ID. eBay has made finding out anyone's contact info extremely hard, in fact, for this very reason.

You don't need to post your (now expired) eBay listing. We don't need your member ID. We really don't care what happens to you or how this turns out, cuz, honestly it's not going to affect us once we close the browser.

You've learned your lesson, I'm sure. Done and done.

And to those suggesting he file a police report-- let me assure you the LAPD have MUCH more important things to be spending their time on than a case of an eBay seller forgetting to get signature confirmation. As far as I'm concerned, if you forget signature confirmation, you deserve to get scammed.

I'm a harsh critic on these forums and I don't particularly like what you were trying to do, nor do I think it's the best way to earn quick cash when you needed it, but I do believe your story. Ignore the haters. But do keep in mind that there seems to be a lot of people posting here who have been clearly less than honest, as well as a lot of us who don't like the reselling for a premium frenzy going on lately. So unfortunately for you, you have to expect some negativity here. Really sorry for your entire situation.

As an aside, I just sold a Kindle DX on eBay (my first time ever selling on eBay), but fortunately, I did all of the necessary things to try to protect myself. I even took photos of the item in the box before and after sealing it with the label attached.

Hope everything works out for you and your family.

i didnt suggest that he file a police report so the police would actually go out and do something about it but just in case it somehow does end up in their hands, they would know it was stolen. same with apple.

The shame of it all is that eBay will take a bum rap for this, as usual, as if it was eBay's fault this seller set himself up to be scammed. I'm hardly the sharpest tool in the shed but it doesn't take a lot of effort...barely any, in fact, to protect yourself and make eBay a pretty good resource and to that end I've never once been ripped off. It's been attempted a few times but if you pay attention to what you're doing, and that's all it takes, you will have no problems.
